Ok it may sound off crazy to duel with destroyers but i have a little 1v1 corp competition coming up and was wondering what people thought was:

a) The best destroyer for pvp
b) Good all round setup for the ship from A

Going to throw out my idea for a setup.

[Thrasher]
Pseudoelectron Containment Field I
Local Hull Conversion Inertial Stabilizers I

Micro Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 200
Tracking Computer I
1MN MicroWarpdrive I

200mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
200mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S

200mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
200mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma S
'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Gremlin Rocket

Plan is to fly in quickly and orbit then unload and hope they can't hit me effectively enough and/or can't hit me and the cap booster is to keep my cap going and help keep me going should someone bring a neut or nos with them.

What do you guys think?

Edit: Incase anyone is curious why it's all T1 gear it is because it's just a T1 setup competition otherwise i'd be going T2 with this Very Happy

For destroyer v destroyer, I'd say artillery since or lasers (radio) work best. The ships aren't exactly fast so tracking isn't an issue. However, a resist rigged Blasterlyst or Laser Coercer(AN Multi)are some mean ships. The trouble is that you have to get in range first.

However, if you think you an keep out of range of them, a Cormorant can pick them off from ~50km

Gank fit a thrasher bud, t2 guns, t2 damage mods and quake ammo and your talking 1500 alpha strike. Couple of rounds and your target dessy is toast, juts don't load the guns till your in range, or use tremor till your within web range.

I like the ideas so far. I would go with T2 gear but part of the rules is to only use T1 gear...keeps the new vs the old people still competitive.

Guess i'll keep with some speed and get up close and personal. MWD will get me there quickly and ruin their fun if they went long range.

Thanks for the suggestions and i'll see how it plays out.

The only thing that matters is starting range, which you didn't mention.

Ahh sorry there. Starting range is 20km apart. I expect to take probably 1 volley of T1 fire at the start but with the MWD i'll close the gap quickly. Or so that is my current prediction of the flow.

One thing to also note is i didn't make these rules im just trying to come up with the best setup within these boundaries.

before scripts were introduced there was this nice little thrasher setup:

7x 280mm Artillery

1-2x Sensor Booster, 1-2x Tracking Computer

2-3x Gyrostab, 0-1x fitting mod

if the start range is 20km id go with that setup.
Sensor Booster with Locktime script
Tracking Computers with tracking scripts

load with republic fleet ammo that has a optimal of 20 (dunno if emp has an optimal that far out right now) and pwn the other guy to death.

For destroyer on destroyer, you can do this:

Highs:
7x 200mm AC II [Barrage M] (I use 150s due to pricing, but 200s are better)
1x Rocket Launcher II [Thorn is usually best]

Mids:
MSE II
1MN MWD II (or named, I use phased MWD for cheapness)
20km distruptor

Lows:
DC I (or II, not worth it due to price, I prefer DC I on throw-away ships)
Gyrostabilizer II (or named to save on prices).

Cheap, ganky as hell, eats any frig in <15s.

If T2 is not allowed, go for a arty thrasher, AC thrasher sucks without barrage S (as you can't fit a web if you want any buffer at all).

If distruptor is not necessary, ignore my advice above and just fit a web instead of a distruptor.

Considering starting range is 20km, go in with mids heated. you don't care if you burn out, you will absolutely massacre a unhardened thrasher.

Two questions.

First, why use a Micro Cap booster instead of a Small one? Smalls are much easier to find, and you can probably pick up an Electrochemical one for cheap, which will outperform your Micro Cap Booster. That fit should have scads of spare grid and CPU if you have any fitting skills at all. You also may not even need it. Barring nos/neuts, that setup should be close enough to cap stable to get you in range, and in all honesty, you won't speed tank a close range destroyer, especially not one being flown by someone who has Destroyers IV or V.

Two, why the Tracking Computer rather than a good web? Autocannons have excellent tracking to start with, and Destroyers add a significant tracking bonus on top of that. Add destroyer's big sigs into the equation and you'll find you have no problems tracking. Consider an X5 or Fleeting web, the ability to control range is necessary.

EDIT: Or you can go with the suggestion of the fellow above me. With 280mms and faction ammo you can achieve something like 1000 points of alpha strike. That'll blow most of the shields off a destroyer in the first shot. You may need a MAPC (or two) to cram it all in though.

I think the Thrasher with an MWD can range tank the Catalyst and speed tank the Cormorant and Coercer, so that's what I'd try. Don't know if it'd really work as I envision it, though, and a webber would put an end to that idea.

Of course the downside of posting publically is that they'll know your fit, and you won't know theirs - so they can play directly to your weaknesses Very Happy

Did you know a Cormorant can do more than Salvage?

Low:
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

Mids:
1MN MWD
Web
Scram
Medium Shield Extender

Highs:
7x light electron Blaster II with faction antimatter

>200 dps
Tackle, and buffer tank (~5000 effective HP)
>1200 m/s

The other destroyers can hit harder, but they can't fully tackle. Its cheap and effective.
