Dunno if this has been mentioned before but I know people were confused as to what this funny star thing does or was for, and I've just noticed something which seems to have started today.

If you're in a fleet command position you now get this star thing overlaid with a little icon of people which tells you where in the system your gang members are.

I just wondered if there was any use in this or if it was a waste of time?

There have been a few buggy things noticed about the new "star" in the sky. Not the least of which is certain POS opening fire on it.

LOL it is actually exactly like that, just a non-dancing icon version of it, with less sideburns.

The POS are evidently smarter than we are. Just like dogs in horrormovies.... they know what to fear.

if you fly in its direction within 10 seconds of jumping a stargate and then disconnect then you will be able to start a new character that has 40 base for each attribute

It's an ingenious new way of fighting lag devised by CCP. It works by making people go to the forums to ask about it instead of playing the game and causing lag.

In case anybody was wondering, I'm in New Eden now and I don't see the star anywhere. I can only conclude that what you see in other systems is the EVE Gate.

Binary stars imo. According to eve lore they make jump gates possible.

They are far, far more closer than any other stars, and as such would be much brighter.

I don't know if you're the queen of sarcasm or just not catching the obvious. Things are funny for awhile, but seeing as I am, in actuality, Captain Obvious's alter ego:

^^ This for the newer players.

The stars have always been there they just recently gave them greater luminosity.

It is actually there, just behind the huge glow of the wormhole and difficult to see at first. Keep looking and you'll find it.

In my running around to various systems in Heimatar region, that bright star was always in the same direction. Jump to a new system, zoom out the map and you'll see it's in the same direction for every system you jump to. It is "up" rather than "down" as you'd expect if it was supposed to be the EVE gate.

So my conclusion is simply that it's the "other star" in the binary system that all jump gates need, but it's placed in the same direction - effectively being part of the 3D "space" in which the local system is loaded.

Or in other words, it's background scenery that's kinda like a pole star - always in the same place for every system.
