In terms of profit, solo camping a low sec gate as opposed to a 0.0 gate is going to be much more lucrative, if that's your goal.
How often do you see haulers working their way through 0.0, compared to lowsec? And of the haulers you do see, how many of them do you think have loot worth grabbing?
If you don't like gate camping, yeah, it could be boring. But if you pick the right spot, you can pull tons of kills and it keeps it exciting.

Even with the new HICs lowsec gate camps are pretty easy to deal with, it just takes some forethought and an ability to adapt. |

why though? i'm just curious as to whats the point of staring at a gate for hours on end. day after day, week after week, month after month. what do they get out of it?
Pirate mining?
2bh gate camping is so boring to me now - i would really love to see low sec boosted and see corps move in then we could have some real fun with fights and a good time had by all. imagine mining op with defenders. pirates could rent space etc etc. atm pirating at gate camps in low sec is the only real way to make isk, also wt0 makes it even more boring.
So to sum up - low sec needs some love, carebear's (not all) needs some balls |

QFT! How boring are level 4 missions, why would anyone want to do more than 1 in their whole eve career? Or. Just maybe. People enjoy different things. But i guess that's too complex for some people to think about. |

Edited by: Ki An on 30/12/2007 14:38:23 Originally by: tinycat That applies to reality.
Its very interesting how you pick and choose which rules must be followed from reality, and which ones should not be followed.
Let me tell you something. People in reality, they conform to social standards and expectations. They pretend to be someone they are not so they can get by, so nothing bad happens to them. How you act in reality only shows how well you understand how to fit in.
In a video game, a world with out consequences, there is no reason to pretend, no reason to do anything but what you want to do. Therefore the way people act in eve shows their true selves.
If you are a murderer in eve, you are really a murderer at heart, you are just afraid to do it for real.
You know, most crimes are solved by connections. Connections between people. Its very hard to find a killer who just randomly stops in a random town and randomly kills someone. Maybe you should be trying that instead of video games. It will probably be more fulfilling. But you cant tell anyone about it. Thats how you get caught. So maybe thats what you want. A big list of kill mail, read on tv in front of a jury. Do it in some places and they wont even kill you afterwards. You will be much more famous. Don't think you want it? You are lying to yourself.
QFT, that's what I always thought. I mean, statistics show that CS players are far more likely to either become terrorists or apply to police academy than other groups in society. The same goes for those who play Command and Conquer, as they generally make the best West Point graduates. Players of The Sims generally make good marriage councellors and Interior Decorators, and those who play WoW are best suited as Fantasy Authors or Berry Pickers. Hmmm... wai... PS. I wish I really could murder you in game. Might be an idea for ambulation. Get on it CCP!!! |

It's because it's the place where we can find anyone to shoot. 95% of all the time the asteroid belts are empty of targets. Well maybe for you the asteroid belts have more targets, also the Veldspar.
It doesn't help to camp the station to, because you might get 2% lucky to insta kill a hauler with a sniper pest or something before it dock. I insta killed a hauler yesterday in my sniper pest because he was slow to dock, but omg it was boring as hell. Well i was bored anyways then. |

Personally, I'm not sure of the intentions of the people gatecamping I've met. Usually when I go into lowsec, I'm mission running, so I'm usually decently tanked. I've met alot of people sniping the gates, and I just sit there and tank it comfortably. In most of the cases, they won't stop shooting, and they won't respond in local. Sometimes I think they're macros or something. If I mwd toward them, they warp away |

'Carebears' play the game to make imaginary money so they can flaunt their imaginary wallet and consequently epeen. 'Pirates' play the game to kill imaginary ships so they can flaunt their imaginary killboard statistics and consequently epeen. Carebears love to claim the imaginary moral highground, Pirates love imagening that they're some kind of ruthless, cutthroat gangsters who make the imaginary law. imo both are as bad as each other and I've been both. |

Hehe, the interplay between these two "types" is what makes these forums so entertaining. It reminds me of the Mongoose Joke. There are loads of variations of this joke but IMHO the best one is is this rather long one by Aleister Crowley (it's the way he tells 'em): Aleister Crowley explains Magick: ''There were these two men, sharing a railway carriage. They didn't know each other. They just happened to be travelling together. One of the men had, resting in his lap, a cardboard box with holes punched in the top. After some time spent contemplating what might be inside his travelling companion's box, the other man at last could not contain his curiosity. He said, "Excuse me, but I couldn't help noticing your box. Does it contain some variety of animal?" The other man, though obviously surprised by this impertinent intrusion from a stranger, smiled politely as he answered, "You're absolutely right. There is indeed a creature kept inside this box. And furthermore, I may reveal, the animal in question is a mongoose." The first man, who'd initiated the enquiry, was astonished by this revelation. Spluttering with surprise, he sought some further explanation of this certainly provocative disclosure made by his strange fellow-traveller. "A mongoose? Sir I must confess I had expected it to be perhaps a cat, or rabbit, not a creature so exotic and outlandish. The animal you mention so excites my curiosity that I must beg you, sir, to tell me more. Where are you bound with such a specimen, if I may be so bold?" The other man, who sat with the perforated box on his lap, shrugged wearily as he replied, "Well, it's something of a personal matter, as it concerns a family tragedy. However, since I'm confident I may rely on your discretion, I suppose I don't mind sharing my unfortunate account with you." "You see," the man went on, "this sorry tale concerns my elder brother. He's always been what I suppose you might refer to as the black sheep of the family. He has for many years indulged himself in a predictable and commonplace array of vices, of which the worst is his fondness for strong spirits. His drinking has progressed until he is now in the final stages of delerium tremens. My brother now sees serpents everywhere, which is the reason I am taking him this mongoose, that he may be rid of them." "Excuse me," the other man interjected, looking puzzled, "But, these snakes your brother sees... aren't they imaginary snakes?" "Indeed," his fellow traveller replied. "But this," and here he gestured meaningfully to the perforated box set on his lap, "is an imaginary mongoose."' |
