Before you take it out, you need to make sure you are aware of a few things. Proper skilling and fitting are an easy first, but they are mere details compared to what you want to do with the ship.

Many pilot carriers without a clue of what they are for...they have mangled views of Eve's gameplay because they are usually familiar with the 'guns blazing' approach of battleship and lower pvp, and the everlasting lack of logistics ships in day-to-day Eve doesn't help in changing any of that.

A carrier is a only combat vessel in the sense that it is supposed to be on the front..

Ok - flameless now:

If you need info on ships, and cant get onto eve, use the Item Database located in the top left of this site. Very easy to use.

Secondly, Sok here is 100% right. DO NOT even undock your carrier without knowing how to use it. I personally learned how to use mine on SiSi. Technically ive lost about 60 chimeras so far, but yet to lose my first, the one and only Betsy ^^

The skills you need those required by: Capital Shield Booster I, Drone Control Unit, Capital Shield Transporter (and armor rep if you desire), and ofcourse fighters.

To also be of use to your capital fleet (if you fly with one) you need to have Jump Drive Op lv 5, and the two tier 2 skills to lv 4 (calibration and conservation) After all these skills to lv 4 etc, you'll be ready to get into some decently combat.

And for reference purposes, if you need help on fitting advice, Sok and i are the peeps to go to. We're both on the other side of the tanking tree, in terms of me being unsustainable, but heavy tank...and Sok being Sustainable, with less tank.

And btw - the LEAST you can do is fit your entire ship t2 (except capital mods:P) Otherwise you'll be laughed at :D
