To preface this, I'll say up front that I don't particularly root for either side in the 'Great War'. You can probably figure out I'm posting with my main. I spent some time in D2 right before MC fought them, and I've indirectly fought against BoB hostiles (CVA/IAC) down in Providence recently. Massive lagfests and storms of 40-60 capitals, supercapitals, etc.. on a side just aren't the environment that's likely to bring me a lot of joy. So I mostly spend my time playing in territory where that war isn't.

Ok, so that's out of the way.

It seems like EVE can't manage to find graceful winners, and I wonder why that is.

In the early days of the Great War, BoB were total pr**ks. Blasting the forums with holier than thou garbage day in and day out, taking credit for stuff they didn't do, and generally filling me with loathing for anything even vaguely BoB-related.

The Goons, who I'd already known from something awful, were pretty much as expected. Irreverent, fun-loving, and finding humor and cheer even in the direst pit of in-game *ss-whuppin. Man I thought, those guys are cool and BoB are jerks, its all so clear. Its a shame that the bad guys are going to win.

Fast forward a bit, and things start turning. The war rolls on, battles come and go, both sides mouth off a bunch, and things turn around. Alliances fall apart, weak-willed corporations blow in the wind, and the opportunistic are making blind guesses on where to go. Its not clear where the easy win is. BoB clams up in forums, Goons get mouthier in forums, and both sides look more even. I'm still remembering what jerks BoB were before, but now the Goons are acting badly too. MC's kicking butt, rolls the north and brings in a tide of followers looking for that easy win again. Actually, I'm going to have to digress from my point here for a sec, since I think MC was relatively well-behaved while winning. Honestly, a pleasant change compared to what seems to be the norm.

Ok, so now we get to the here and now and things are in complete opposite. BoB now looks to be getting hammered, and they're acting a whole lot classier about it. The Vacuum video was excellent. My god, it made losing look... cool. What's up with that? The Goons on the other hand, contract a case of Mad Cow disease and spew and froth all over the forums for nothing but the sake of random disruption. All the spineless groups that once flocked to BoB for free wins, flock to the other team for free wins and are loud and self-righteous.

Arrrgh.

Why is this? Is it the same group of a** nuggets that taint the forums from either side, moving to whoever is winning to be loud about it? Is it just that every group has a significant number of people who suck, and winning gives them license to suck publically?

I dunno. I guess winning makes people let down their guard and act how they want to. It also seems to attract the most opportunistic and undesirable. I'd encourage more folks to think about that as they move forward and ask yourself how you actually wish to define yourself. Battles will come and go, some alliances will change names or regions, but what you choose to be while doing so will remain with you.

Choose well.

On balance, I think the OP is correct, but it isn't 100% accurate. There are exceptions and I like to think Morsus Mihi is one of them.

I can't think of a case during my tenure in this alliance where we've won anything and posted about it here or rubbed anyone's nose in it. We don't whinge when we lose, either. We don't start threads. We barely take part in them at all. We do attempt to post measured responses in situations we feel require them.

I think there are some models of decent behavior out there if people care to look.

The only one who's PR has changed is BoB. We've always smacked like it was going out of style. Thats all any of this is. PR.

Also, the Vacuum Video was more for the benefits of the Pets than anyone else. A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down.

Contrast the Goonswarm presentation at Fanfest with your CAOD assasination over the weekend.

People did expect more and you failed to deliver Confused

Edit: actually one telling phrase in the presentation gave the game away a little. I'll paraphrase because I'm not watching it again: We have our own community outside of Eve.

It seems you dont want the rest of us to have a community at all.

Well losing is still losing, no matter how much gloss you put on it. Yes the goons are being goons on the forums, and tbh, it has gone a little too far Laughing

They should make their own glossy vid and maybe release it at the fanfest or something...oh wait

Possibly the reason Goons will not be graceful in all this, is because of the sheer amount of BS that came from the BOB camp. The holier than thou, the arrogance, the omg, you name it.

But then you see them in real life, wearing cowboy hats and aprons, or emo T-shirts with vacant expressions, the "haven't seen sunlight in 3 years" look, or the "what is a lady" mannerism...so yes, I kind of feel sorry for them now Razz

Ok so the reason why people should be nice and gracious about winning is because it bothers you when they don't. I'll be sure to get to our public relations department to make drastic changes right away.

One thing I can't believe:

1) That a goon went to fanfest. Isn't that like a violation of everything, for want of a better phrase, goons stand for? Please tell me he's an ex-goon now, being gven the Remedial treatment?
