Edited by: Ealiom on 01/11/2007 16:51:00 We’ve all had it, those moments were we have stopped, leant back in our chairs and marvelled at what we just saw. Be it our own actions or those imposed on us by the game. We have had our own unique experiences and sometimes shared moments of indescribable joy at the hands of this fine medium.
So I ask you all to share amongst us your finest moments in your gaming history!
Ealiom’s
1: Besting my considerably talented friends in an epic Streetfighter tournament and being crowned "The Undisputed Greatest Streetfighter In Da Universe For the rest of Eternity” (Think I still have the T-Shirt)
2: Playing on my usual CS:S server with all my online buddies. My score is 44-0 and its the last round of the match my rush hungry team is wasted. I'm left facing 7 terrorists all hungry to change that 0 to a 1. On an indescribable adrenaline high I take them all out even though I am rushed from all sides (Dust2 &A) I had to dodge grenade, flash and fire from 7 players. I had no time to reload so used the weapons from the fallen. I killed them all using a combination of AK, Famas, Shotgun, deagle, glock skillz and smarts. Final Score 54-0 and so much congrats and back patting afterwards. (My hands actually shook with the sheer amount of adrenaline coursing through my viens, I had to stop playing after that round cause i couldnt keep my hand steady The name is [AI] just in case I meet any of you fellows online.)
3: Playing Turok on the N64 for the first time all those years ago and firing the nuke weapon. (I bought a N64 the next day)
4: Going from an Amiga playing Dune2 to a Playstation playing Wipeout and Toshinden. I could scarcely believe my eyes. As all those polygons flying about the screen! (OMG WTF my eyes MY EYES)
5: Final Fantasy 7 on that same Playstation. I would run home from school at lunch time just so I could scrounge another 20mins of play from it. (Still ranked as one of my favourite games of all time)
6: Getting my first shock combo kill in Unreal Tournament and hearing my Bass tremble! (Cold shivers ran down my spine)
7: Being killed for the first time in EVE Online. I felt sick afterwards, the adrenaline and fear of losing my first battleship was not a good combination. I logged off, sighed composed myself then logged back on. (I have never been sorry that I did!)
8: Stumbling across the very pilot who had killed my fledgling character all those years ago and brutally podding him. (I think you can imagine how loud and elated I was.)
9: Playing a Puzzle Fighter match over Xbox Live that lasted a full 10minutes against a player who was by far the most amazing player I have ever seen. He was so good I got the digital camera out and recorded it. I was proud to almost play him to a stale mate. He congratulated me on being one of the toughest games he’d had in a long time. I, very sportsmanlike that I am offered to send him the video clip. Been friends ever since! (Still can’t beat him)
10: Being able to complete the Guitar Hero’s on expert. Even the custom tracks that fans have made. (Muse: Newborn FTW!)
Okay Folks ……………… Share!

Edited by: NeoShocker on 01/11/2007 18:27:16Best gaming moments? For single player ... On the top, the moment the Empire lets me fly the Tie Defender and single handedly destroy all rebel starfighters and capital ships in further missions. Definate "I win ship" ... And flying with Darth Vader :) (Tie Defender = HAC + Interceptor) Second. Getting Hyper Sonic, Knuckles, and Super Tails. Sonic 3 and Knuckles combo game. Third. "In the name of Kane!" "Kane lives in Death!" x3 repeats "Kane still lives!" from Command And Conquer: TS. Fourth. Several great moments for recent modern games, but NOTHING beats classic gaming moments! For Multiplayer ... 1. Playing the first online multiplayer match in ANY game, CnC gold, and winning! 2. First corp I joined gets wardecc'ed, on the first target of war, first corp kill and first KM for me! 3. Alot of good gaming moments from H2ocs.com community (CS and natural selection from several years back) 4. Lead a guild for 4 years called NeoAlliance. (private servers ) Lots of good and bad moments from Ragnarok Online. 5. Nothing compares the feeling you encounter when playing Eve-Online from any other games! |

what the hell, lets give this a whirl.
1. spending literally an entire day when was about 6 or 7 going round every shop that might sell Sonic the hedgehog with my mum and dad, and eventually finding it, and getting home to find that i wasnt allowed to play it, since my mum and dad played it all night :(
2. Playing Unreal (the very first one) online through my **** dial-up connection, and just sitting there for like 5mins to get into a game and lag out for 10mins before getting disconnected. this is listed as it was the first game i ever played online.
3. playing C&C RA2 against my dad over LAN and WTFPWNING him every time.
4. completing metal gear solid (first one) over and over and over and over again, awesome game. Then playing the VR missions extra disc for weeks, and completing something like 99% of all the missions
5. Playing eve for what turned out to be an all-nighter. Hrum (some russian guy) decided to pay Contraband Inc, Snigg and A55 to invade PA (phoenix alliance) for fun in his eyes, but the aim was to kick them out. We were planning on rolling out at 1am i believe it was. Well god knows how many jumps later escorting freighters, and finding very little to shoot, i decided to head to bed at 6:30, lie to my mum (who was waking up at the time) and say i had just got up as i had a bad belly, and was going back to bed. Woke up at 10am and went to work :S Hanging all day, but so happy i was there for the begining of a real fun week or two, where a huge alliance almost got displaced very easily, but a group of pirates
6. PRobably my favourite of all, was back not long after i joined Contraband, where everyone knew everyone else, and we just got fight after fight after fight, just so awesome, and was constantly dying to log on whenever i wasnt |

Edited by: Tarminic on 01/11/2007 18:02:21C&C:TS (Multiplayer)I was playing an online game of Command and Conquer: TS expansion (forget the name), specifically the world domination mode. The reason I play World Domination is because it forces people to turn on the fog of war of which I am a great fan. The opponent rushes me early on and ends up taking out my construction yard and approximately half of my base. But what he doesn't know is that I still have two refineries and a war factory. For the next half an hour he taunts and teases me about how I'm a n00b and how I suck. I spend this half an hour begging him not to kill my while building up a massive army of walkers hidden behind a part of my base he had scouted but was obscured by the fog of war. After accumulating approximately a hundred walkers, I simply marched them into his base. I could practically hear his pain as a massive line of walkers crossed into visible range of his base. X-Com (Single Player)While playing X-Com, I set up two bases - a primary base where I keep my best soldiers and a secondary base that acts as an area where I keep my least effective, least experience soldiers with substandard weapons (laser rifles). This base was completely undefended. My heart sank when I saw a battleship class UFO on approach, knowing full well that 10 rookies could not possibly withstand the assault with top-of-the-line weapons, nevermind the substandard armament they had available. Nevertheless I decided to fight it out anyway. I immediately set all my troops at the center of the base, a single hallway that any invading alien had to cross in order to take the base. For almost an hour and a half my inexperienced men fired salvo after salvo of laser fire (infinite ammo - their only saving grace) until finally it stopped. Not really knowing what happened I sent a scout to investigate, and he found that my men had slaughtered every single invading alien with the exception of one, who panicked and ran. He was promptly gunned down and the day was won. Shattered Galaxy (Multiplayer)An old Free MMO I used to play involved groups of up to 32 players controlling 6 units in RTS-style combat, and I always loved to play artillery but died alot since the slow, heavy units were moving bomb magnets. I became involved in a large battle in which my side was heavily outnumbered. I positioned my artillery on a ridge that overlooked two important "control points" that needed to be taken from us in order for the opposing side to solidify their victory. The battle was intense and frantic and I was constantly receiving requests for artillery support at one of the two location. I was constantly aligning and firing the artilery for over two hours. At the end of the battle (most of which I don't actually remember), we held our ground and my artillery units were responsible for over 130 enemy kills. I was elated. |

I'll go with some recent ones (and mind you I have been playing PC games since textbased Zork).
- World In Conflict: I didn't really know what I was doing so I was not spending my Tactical Aid points on air strikes and such. People started asking who had the most TA for a nuke. As it happened I did. So player donated more TA to me and before I know it the first nuke I ever see in the game is one I launched. Pure joy I can tell you.
- Bioshock: Early in the game you come across a woman moaning over her baby in a carriage. I'll leave it at that to avoid spoilers but if you saw it you know what I mean...creeped me out.
Although for the OP I think you need to define the difference between moments when a game made you sit back and go, "WOW!" and times when you just kicked ass.
And yeah, another vote for FFVII. I was floored when Aeris is killed by Sepiroth (I think it has been out long enough not to care about spoilers). |

Playing Starcraft online: Taking out 4 computers and fending off/killing 2 players that thought they were cute and tried to turn traitor while my forces were in combat AND protecting the last guy that they almost killed. Can't stop the zerg. Dark Age: My friend had a 39 warrior and I had a 39 Shaman for molvik. One early morning we protected our keep for over 3 hours from 6 albs. When they finally booted us we retook the outside towers they took earlier then came back in and retook the keep with the help of one more. C&C: Guy competely wiped me out but I had one little man hiding behind a tree. Put him on passive and made the dude look for me for about 40 minutes before giving up declaring me a victor |

1. 1st Video Game System, the Sega Master System. I think I was about 10. Action Fighter was the 1st game I played. Favorite game on the master system? Either Phantasy Star or Spellcaster.
2. Sega Genesis, it was a huge Wow factor from the Master system. I think my 1st genesis game was X-Factor, but tons of great games for years to come.
3. 1st PC at about 13, wasn't capable of much. I think my 1st games on that was Jet Fighter, Tank Wars, and Space Quest something.
4. Went to some random comic book store and I bought this disk labeled DOOM for like 5 bucks. Went home had to free up some conventional mem, and/or xms mem (the good ole days). The 1st game action I played on the computer that wasn't outdone by something on one of the consoles.
5. Dune...enough said.
6. Quake just blew me out of the water in terms of gaming experience. The 1st game with that kind of "feel" to it. The graphics, sound and game-play just all came together.
7. Probably the best game I've played to date in terms of impact. I'm probably alone on this in that it's not a popular choice. But I felt this game had great graphics for the time, a unique style of gameplay, an amazingly well done story for an action game. The soundtrack really set the mood to the game. The game? Battlezone I
8. AoE
9. Virtua Fighter |

Edited by: Benco97 on 01/11/2007 21:22:28 Hmm.. you know, I remember having the moments you describe but I hardly remember the moments themselves.. However, one moment in a game that stuck in my memory is definately in "Beneath a Steel Sky", near the end when you're stuck in the tunnels under the city, walking around and I see a big hole in the wall. "Did something just move in there?" I think to myself... no way, i'm imagining things. As you can imagine I almost prolapsed when that bloody mutant spider-scorpian thing lept out and killed me. I flipped out the chair in shock and hurt myself.

One other one on starcraft. The infamous zergling rush My friend came to terms that he couldn't beat me so he decided to try to build the 'ultimate' base with terrans. I tested some spots for weaknesses and tried a few grunt rushes to no avail. Finally I just started building an army of zerglings from 3 bases. 2 bases went to the same waypoint and the third had it's own. I was also digging them underground just in case. I finally max out in points and start bringing them up when I hear "nuclear launch detected". Naturally I'm checking buildings when I see a third of the zerglings go up in flames. Turns out his ghost was walking right through the area when my zerglings popped up. He was laughing about his accomplishment so I sent the other 2/3 of the army to his base. A second later I hear go "OH ****" as his bunkers and seige tanks made the area in front of the base a red sea. They didn't take the base but they punched a massive hole into one side forcing him to grab all the backup he could. 1 seige tank survive with a hit point and something like 60-70 kills. He didn't have time to rebuild and I already had 4 groups of hydra's up and moving in for the kill. |

There's a couple of gaming moments that spring to mind:
Halo Multiplayer (PC): I was in multiplayer playing the Gephyrophobia map and some random hostile was zipping toward me on one of those covenant speeder bike things (ghost?) and I hit duck at the very last moment and threw a plasma grenade. The ghost hit a small bump in the map just in front of me and zipped above my head just as the grenade stuck to the bottom of his vehicle. I stood up and turned to face him and as he brought his ghost around to face me the grenade went of and sent him and his speeder flying into the air and over the edge of a bridge. It was just such perfect timing.
Eve: My first fleet op, 150+ ships on each side, and me in my little T1 frig with a tackling setup that had been suggested for me, there was a major battle which lasted for what must have been half an hour by the end of it, it just descended into a pure melee of ships everywhere and torpedo's flying about all over the place and explosions everywhere and me zipping through it all in my kestrel like a little fighter pilot in an epic battle. was truly amazing, to this day the greatest battle i've ever been part of in Eve.
Total Annihilation: Last campaign on Tergiverse IV, I had to capture an island which had the Galactic Gate. I spent ages preparing an attack and then when the moment came launched a perfectly timed naval attack, aerial bombardment and amphibious assault and completely overwhelmed the enemy. Not really an incredibly impressive feat against a PC opponent, but it's always class when a plan is pulled off perfectly like that. TA, what an awesome game that was.
Final Fantasy VII: Not a moment of joy by any means, but definitely memorable, Sephiroth dropping down sword drawn and impaling Aeris... I just couldn't believe it, son of a *****! |

Edited by: Phantom Slave on 01/11/2007 22:49:02 Counter-Strike 1.6 - A few years ago right after I started, I was playing Assault. I had an AWP and walked through the garage door hugging the left side. I was zoomed in looking at the ladder/boxes on the far corner when I heard somebody switch to a knife. I turned right and nailed a guy in the head mid-air and sent his body flying back into the corner. I was so freaking excited.
Natural-Selection - Aliens had killed all of the marines but me and they had destroyed all of our IP's. I jump into the comm chair, and drop an IP next to the chair just as 8 skulks get to the chair. I jump out and just start blasting with the shotty. I kill all but one, and knife him. Build the IP, and we went on to win the match.
Eve-Online - Ninja mining in a .4 belt. Drake warps in 75+ km out, then warps back out. Me being a complete noob I actually sit there and keep mining after he leaves. Moments later he warps back in right on top of me. Webbed, scrammed, and I die so damn fast. My first experience being destroyed by a pirate. It sucked, but I had such an adrenaline rush that I actually got sick to my stomach and had to go to the bathroom to throw up.
America's Army - Pipeline, and the Defense team is damn good. Everybody but me gets killed just as I shut off the external valve. I trap the doors (open them slightly forcing the other players to close the door then open, making a loud noise). Kill 3 people quickly, and move to the secondary valve. Start closing it when I hear footsteps, so I slide back behind the first column and wait for the guy to drop down. Luckiest headshot I've ever gotten in that game. Work my way back upstairs, find a 203, and procede to nade the surviving 2 players up in the rafters of the center room. I was shaking so bad afterwards that I couldn't get a single kill for 10 minutes.

AA is without a doubt the most nerve-wracking-in-a-good-way game I have ever played. My experience was with the original Bridge map, which I played almost exclusively. Chess meets FPS. I haven't gotten there yet, but I think that EVE might be the first game in years that will offer me the same rush. |

Best gaming moments :
Multiplayer
1. Goldeneye N64, slappers only, licence to kill, bunker, all crouching ( hovermode ) on bunker with 3 friends Also once on stack, me and my friends all had a sniper rifle and circle headshot each other at the same time. The probability of that is quite slim. We where ROFL quite a bit after that.
2. Smasbross or Smashbross melee when drunk = win 3. Halflife Deathmatch ( with mods ) 8 player Deathmatch on X-fire with rocketcrowbar mod = win 4 vs 4 trainhunt mod = win
4. GTA2 tag with as many people as possible in the smallest map.
5. " those neverending " 3 hour+ battles in Natural Selection where the teams are perfectly balanced.
Singleplayer
6. Pilotwings N64, getting gold on the chicken dive after 100 attempts, I was so happy.
7. Accidently discovering the tunnel bug in Transport Tycoon.
8. Portals
9. HalfLife fights with the grunts.
10. Getting all stars on Mario 64

finally getting to "elite" ranking in Elite... (amstrad 464)
"Water Hazard" in HL2, first time you round the corner, flat out, and the chimney stack is hit and collapses in front of you - a brilliantly cinematic "ohhhhh sh*beeep*" moment in gaming. (PC)
the I.S. mercenary unit I played in leagues for Mechcommander managing to outrank IS Houses and Clans with about 300 times the resources... (PC, Mechcommander 1)
the first moment I saw something I created running in-game, as a modder. (Grand Prix 2 on PC)
The first moment I saw something I created for a title, being played by someone else - a long battle to get into the industry, well worth it.
First pvp kill in eve - early 2004... Blackbird vs a Moa. never had the shakes from a computergame before. Still have the blackbird as a trophy :)
sitting in GTA:Vice City, listening to the radio, parked at the end of the airstrip, in an Infernus, with planes landing just overhead, watching the sunrise, while listening to Billy Idol. Class.

When I first downloaded the shareware version it was all brown graphics but the 3D was superb, I remember having to aim upwards at monsters on walkways etc. I went and spent a small fortune on one of those new fangled £D accelerator cards, 3dfx Voodoo passthrough card, and when I loaded up Quake the difference was ****ing amazing. SWG. My first Jedi kill as a BH. I had my game plan all sorted out, I'd bought a brand new set of composite armour (yes I know there was no LS resists in the armour and the HAM hit was a waste but I didn't realise at the time ) I found him on Dant attacking some lair, ran up to him and started fighting. My mind went completely blank and I got the PvP shakes but, as I found out after, I was his first BH and he paniced and I beat him. SWG. I got a Jedi off the terminals and tracked him to Dant. He was in the Mining Outpost dueling a Corp mate of his. There was a crowd so I sauntered over and watched. His Corpie incapped him and I took my chance and did the old DB . I walked off to the spaceport and after a few mins people realised what had just happened. I got some hate tells but the best was the one where I was called a "poo head". DAoC. I was Albion and one day Middy sent in a huge force to take our relic from our castle. Within 30 mins we had probably 500+ Albions there to defend. Middy had similar numbers and the Hibs came along for the fun. Lag ensued and eventually the server crashed. Was a great fight though. |

If we're getting into Pside my drop pod once landed on a passing Magrider in an otherwise empty field. My pod wouldn't open up since i hadn't hit the ground yet "I was stuck on top of the tank", it seemed the driver was pinned under my pod. The gunner started stupidily firing on the pod "I was safe inside". The driver ejected just in time for the magrider's cannon to blow itself up catching the driver in the blast. A few seconds later the magrider disintegrated leaving me undamaged. Was great. |
