Just curious what the rest of the player base thinks.
Personally, I'm seriously considering canceling my accounts if ambulation arrives before user interface fixes like those mentioned in the forum thread linked in my sig. That thread is nearly a year old and not a single improvement mentioned in it has been made, nor even any improvement at all, since the thread was created almost a year ago.
Reasons: EVE's UI is one of the worst I've seen in a game, ever. UI enhancements would benefit every player every minute they're playing.
Ambulation only benefits the players that intend to use it, and thus far only aesthetically. I'm not a player that intends to use it if I can avoid it. |

UI. I filed a bug report about the lack of corps being able to set standings towards individual characters, and they said it was a bug... so when are they going to fix it? Hopefully before rev3, cuz rev2 nerfed it, and there was no warning or anything posted in the changelog. |

Oh for the love of god, can't you guys be more original? Not only does nobody even take these threats serious these days, we even deem posts that begin like this as 'whines' and typically don't even read them. That being said, I doubt those responsible for programming the GUI aren't help up completely by ambulation. Therefore I'd say 'I want both'. |

I dub thee The Eternal Quitter. Second, you fail, because the devs aren't necessarily interchangeable between projects, as has been mentioned before. So working on ambulation != no UI fixes. Stop these threads. |

Both as long as ambulation lets me go to a seedy strip club and watch well rendered minmater women dance on my table as I use some drugs to make the screen all groovy looking.. |

So, they are not doing a patch-job to the UI. From what I read into it, they are totally rewriting the underlying code as well as the visual aspects of it. No idea yet what it will look like, but one can always hope.
and the ambulation is mostly a side project anyways, the whole engine behind it is being developed for CCP's other MMO anyways. They're just going to add it in as a "wouldnt it be cool if...." type project. The only reason we keep seeing it is because it does make nice eye candy to promote. |

Well lets see......
Ambulation is its own thing, slated for a sometime in 2008 release. A GUI bit, is part of Trinity 2.0, the first parts of which we are seeing being rolled it in Rev 3.
So, you might want to actually figure out stuff before you make your ridiculously asinine whines. |

Edited by: DubanFP on 10/09/2007 01:32:01 Well let me put it this way to remove all arguement in this thread. The people who work on graphics and content are entirely different people then those who work on gameplay & bug fixes.
Devs from one group probebly have a basic understanding of the other group. However, someone from one group can not work on stuff from the other group. They would have no idea as to what they're doing. They just work in entirely different ways.
P.S. I think the UI is fine once you get used to it. Like EVE itself it's just complicated & doesn't hold your hand. |

Exactly. Kinda like, you don't want the person who cleans the bathroom at the car dealership to do the brakes on your car. Nor do you want the head chef at a resteraunt cleaning the bathroom. Or an ambulance driver treating your heart condition. Different people, for different jobs, for a reason. |

Completely ignoring the fact, of course, that the UI has has been in this sad state since at least when I started playing and has not improved one whit. So what were the devs doing during all that time? They certainly weren't working on ambulation then. |

Probably because you are not the Lorax, and do not speak for the trees. Why don't you just actually quit? Instead of just making idle threats to give yourself attention? |

Dude, no offense but do you play any other games? I mean seriously, and Im not trying to be a fanboy here but Eve's UI is actually better than a number of OSes. No question it has plenty of bugs and can be improved, but as someone else mentioned ambulation isnt even being done by CCP Iceland so its sort of a moot point which happens first. |

Ambulation is merely an attempt to appeal to more RealLife female customers. I read somewhere that market research indicates most women want to see their character. Ships make their eyes glaze over.
The women currently playing eve are exceptions, and exceptional, of course. Please don't pod me ladies! (begs)
So yes, better UI, less lag, less bugs. Anything. Walking in stations really doesn't excite me. |

Apart from the fact that it has a shocking effect on the rendering frame rate and that there is only minimal customisation for, oh, let's pick something like... SHORTCUT KEYS FOR DRONE CONTROL. And we won't talk about the awful way that numbers are displayed with differing formating methods in various parts of the UI. Oh, and never mind that with the heat patch I find it very difficult to see which of my modules are active. In general I quite like the way the UI works and I don't think it needs a major rework of the layout but to say that it's "fine once you get used to it" is rather disingenuous as there are some major issues with it's usability, continuity and performance that cannot be denied. |

i would like to see both an upgraded (and customizable) UI and ambulation.
to the UI Design Team: I recommend looking at Edward Tufte's books for guidance.

You guys missed what Ovuer had to say today during the Alliance Tourney...
In short, the UI update will be happening after the graphics update, since it will be using the new hardware based graphics engine rather than the current "software" one.
CCP has been gathering usability information on the current UI for a while and will be using it to build the new UI system. It will be publicly tested thoroughly as soon as a workable version is available and will likely see many revisions based on feedback.
The new UI system, while will not be customizable - a la WOW - because of security issues, will have far more configurability.
And from the sounds of things, it will be done well before Ambulation. |

This really makes me wonder. What sort of 'security issues' could a modifiable UI pose, anyways? WOW seems to do fine with it's system. The new UI being decent would certainly make the lack of a modifiable one more palatable, though. |

I see alot of people saying this same thing. In fact walking in stations WILL cut down on ALOT of lag. When someone docks in the station, you in fact will be on another server. This means all those people docked in Jita will stop having a effect on those still in space. Empire lag will be much better. Big fleet wars will still lag though. This was posted by a Dev. Dont give me the proof or stfu, im not going to spend forever looking it up. believe me or not, you will see soon enough. I cant wait for Ambulation, it will be sexy. |

I'd rather have *anything* done besides this ambulation BS. New *game* content, not eye candy that'll keep all of those station huggers entertained.
Put content *outside* the stations, in space, where the game takes place... |

I consider ambulation to be crap too. But CCP wants to double their potential market, so we are outvoted. |
