Firstly, thanks to all ISD that i have met up with, and been associated with for the last 1 1/2 years. You have all been great :) I hope you all achieve what your aiming for, and im sure those who this is aimed at know what i mean ;)

Secondly, a few personal mentions to corps i worked with... Firstly, PIE. Inc, Mordus Angels, and no doubt a few Pirates.... You guys were great when taking part in my events, even if you didnt know about it ;)And Lastly, Aurora itself. Never have i met such a team that is both mad, yet brilliant. Joining this wonderful programme is deffo one of the better choices i made over the last year and a half, and given the chance, i would do it all over again.

Farewell Friends, im sure i will see you around somewhere in the universe.... ;)

Long Live the Legion...i mean, Memories!!!

Which forums? We've already lost Buy/Sell/Trade. That was probably the most trafficked part. Other than the clownshow that is CAOD there's hardly anything left that requires moderating or is even worth visiting... Crying or Very sad

Well, I am pretty disappointed that AURORA is being shut down as an event-running entity. For those wondering about current arcs, the people running them are being offered the chance to continue them and tie up the loose ends. So don't worry about that too much.

We ran events because we really loved adding to the fiction in EVE. From something as small as having the Amarr Navy interacting with smut peddlers in Amarr to having something 100+ CVA/PIE/VV/AM/other Amarr loyalists escorting my pompous Amarr Holders from low sec to high sec when I had no intention of having anyone attack them (PS... YOU GUYS HELPED THE EVIL[er] HOLDER WIN!) to watching a station constantly respawn after being blown up and lucky getting the Caldari Navy to chase you guys off before it respawned YET AGAIN. It was all fun and I will truly miss adding that sort of depth and immersion to the game.

Hopefully, in the future, we'll be able to bring you these sorts of events again. Your kind words are greatly appreciated, none-the-less.

With or without formal ISD organization, you can rest assured many players (whether they're currently in ISD or not) will continue their volunteer work for the community :)

Forum moderation is another thing ofcourse, here's to hoping CCP gets something of similar quality in place without serious hickups.

I had a terrible time dealing with some of the forum moderators. As a moderator on another game system who's been at it longer than Eve's been in business, and who wrote many of the forum rules and helped establish many of the forum moderating policies, it was clear that there were fundamental failures in your system, both in its basic set of policies and its execution.

...
Anyways, I really do hope CCP gets it right next time! Good luck. You need it!

Im goin to be that guy, that calls you out, and say bull**** to your whole post. Stop comparing eve to other games, there is no game that is like another, and there is no moderation rules and methods that works for all communities. On top of all that, you just seem like your making stuff up, and comparing apples to oranges.

There are other 24/7, persistent PvP games out on the market. Eve is, in many ways, just another skill template game. That doesn't make it WoW. But too many people fall for this, "Eve is pure PvP unlike anything else evah!" It's actually still kinda PvP-lite, but it's at least requires extensive knowledge of game mechanics and the equipment to be effective. The consequence is many people still confuse their templates for themselves, a phenomenon common in games like WoW and SWG that are "PvP", but with little actual game skill required. There are several 24/7, persistent simulators that are out there that require tremendous amounts of knowledge about tactics, equipment performance capabilities, and there ain't no skill templates to help you out. You either can kill, or you can't. They do have a different sort of forum dynamic in the sense that the top players and top forum personalities are usually people who can kill you straight up, no questions asked. It's really not anywhere near as far a stretch as people seem to think, but, of course, you'd have to experience those other game environments in depth to understand what you're talking about, and I think that gets to the crux of your argument.

The basic crux of what little actual argument that can be mined out of your response is that "no moderation rules or methods can work for all communities". That's true. No where did I claim otherwise. There are, however, basic principles and philosophies that apply. I've spoken in very basic terms. Or are you going to sit there and try to argue that an international game does not need to respect regional standards in interpersonal relationships, or something so basic as respecting posters for whom English is not their first language? Are you honestly going to take a crack at the need for accountability? Or the importance of responsiveness to customer concerns?

This is the internet, credentials or experience aren't expected to carry the day, ideas and argument are. If you're going to call "bull****", fine, but give an actual counter-argument to the points made. "Eve's unique" followed up by a red herring comment doesn't contribute much of anything and certainly doesn't demonstrate that you've willing (or able) to engage the issues under consideration. Now, if you'd actually share some ideas and conceptions of your own and contribute productively to the discussion, now seems to be the time.

Anyways, my best regards to the moderators who were actually working to improve the system, who recognized its failings. Hopefully your feedback will be welcomed and you'll be able to positively contribute to the next version of the forum system. I know how thankless a job moderating is and how under-appreciated. Hopefully anyone who read my post did so carefully and noticed that my criticisms were clearly at CCP and your senior moderators and team lead, rather than the frontline guys who did the job they were given with little or no recognition and I suspect no where near enough appreciation.

I'm kinda wondering here... It's all pretty confusing.

First: Why?

Second: 2 Mods for the entire forum? Thats going to be some serious work.

Thirdly: I'm guessing applying to ISD at the moment isn't really going to get me far. Is there ANY way I can volunteer to help in Eve now?

Seeing as the blog still mentions bughunting and translations how do I get involved with that?

And finally: While I only ever saw one event (in which I played a major part getting some documents to a nearby station) and while that event failed epically because I delivered the documents yet still failed in my mission, It is still sad to see something like this go.

It just doesn't make sense Sad

I've only been in Aurora for about 6 months now, but that time has been fantastic for me. My heartfelt thanks go out to:

All the actors with whom I've had so many amusing and entertaining in-game, in-character interactions...

All the producers who take the time and effort to create deep, detailed, twisted, intriguing plot arcs...

All the senior producers who gave me mentoring, feedback, inspiration, and guidance when it was time to start creating my own events...

All the leads who suffered graciously through my innumerable mis-steps and questions...

Our esteemed Vice Admiral Galen, who spent incredible amounts of time setting up all of the characters, ships, and equipment such that we could interact with players in all sorts fo new and interesting ways...

And last but not least, to all of the players who interacted with us. We did everything for you guys, and it was very gratifying to see the kind of response we got from the people whom we touched over the course of our events.

In general, I think that the events team brought something unique and interesting to EVE that is unparalleled in the MMO world. It allowed players to interact with the setting on a much deeper level, and allowed players the opportunity to actually shape their surroundings in subtle yet sometimes surprisingly lasting ways. I'm proud to have been a part of that.

To all of my other ISD homies, I loved all of the inane chatter in IRC, all of the goofy stories, all of the strutting, chest-beating discussions about which division of ISD >>> all, the thought-provoking idea sessions, and hte opportunity to make friends with cool people from all over the world who share both a love and a vision for the world of EVE. You will all be sorely missed.

It's been a great ride, and I'm glad I was able to take part in it. Plus also, GALEN FOR EMPEROR!

Well, I'm still confused. This is all rather vague. It seems like a purging and re-organizing. Hmm.

Thanks so much to all you terrific moderators, events coordinators, bug hunters, and other crazy ISD volunteers. I've only been round for a year and a bit, and I'm sad that I didn't become more involved in roleplay and events. I hope Eve will continue as well as you've made it under the new system.

Why?

Are you trying to help us poor Eve addicts back to real life by making Eve more dull, more disappointing, or will there eventually be some small positive in killing off this part of Eve?

It's quite sad to see Eve become blander so I hope that Eve survives long enough to see something good come out of this.

Probably for the best. You broke our trust time and again, and while I realize not everyone in ISD or Aurora were bad apples, there certainly were enough to spoil the bunch. But at least CCP is learning the same lesson every other MMO company has had to learn - that a volunteer events service will always wind up corrupt sooner or later. Hopefully CCP keep that in mind for whatever they decide to do to replace it.

Long ago, I was a member of a support team for another MMO. I recall the hard and often thankless work. I remember when the entire team was dragged through the mud by the players because of problems that we had no means of controlling. I remember getting "bad marks" from players because I wasn't able to give them the answer they wanted to hear.

Still, I kept at it. I would be surprised if my reasons were any different from any of yours. Love of the community, love of the game, and a burning desire to make a real difference.

Then there were the great days, when everyone seemed to be grateful for your help. The days when you watched a new player "get it", because of your help. The days when you saved an op for dozens of people by forcing the brain-dead quest mob to unstick. The days when every single petition seemed to go just right, and every single player seemed truly grateful for your assistance. The days when you overhear a couple of players talk about the great event they just attended.

Folks, let this be one of those days. Thank you for your selfless service!

On a slightly different note, maybe six months ago in Lonetrek a couple of you folks tried running an event where the plot was to destroy a merchant who was preventing grain shipments to a competing merchant's livestock...

Forgive me if I seemed uncooperative, but I really did enjoy the interaction, even though I think you folks thought I was being uncooperative. As a vegetarian, my perspective was completely different from what you were expecting. I admit, though, I did enjoy throwing you for a loop like that. No hard feelings? ;-)

Best regards,

Gridcrash

Believe it or not I will actually miss all you forum jockeys Twisted Evil

While it's sad to step away from the forums and something I've enjoyed for a while now, It's always a good feeling to watch the game, and the community grow.

Thank you to each and every one of my colleagues in the [CRC], I've learned a lot in my time with the team, and stayed up far too late on far too many nights keeping the community's forums from imploding, Thank you to the guys in Aurora who've put in the effort to keep producing events, and Thank you to everyone who's posted, spammed, whined, discussed, bought, sold, traded, trolled, and ranted on the forums.

It has been a pleasure ladies, gentlemen, and creatures not falling into those categories. Please continue to show the same respect for the new forum moderation and ISD staff that you have for us mods Laughing

Sorry to the ISD guys, it must be hard for something like what you had to come to an end like this, but I think it had to be done.

The sheer lack of respect from a number of posters to CCP and their fellow players has turned these forums into a very difficult and unpleasant place to visit. Every thread getting bogged down in pointless posts and flaming does not count as "character". I look forward to the future improvements.

Positive direction for CCP; I'm surprised and impressed by the willingness to change this. It was needed. Thank you for taking steps to "plug this hole." Bughunters being relegated to localization and forum moderation being brought out of the hands of volunteers -- I'm speechless. Real, Positive, Change. Fantastic. The ramifications of this are as near-praise worthy as any change that has raised the accountability level in the past year.

Empathy and appreciation to those volunteers that gave their time and effort for nothing more then the betterment of the community. I hope that your willingness to contribute isn't at all stifled by a change in role. I'd imagine the best of you will hardly notice as you shift gears and become part of something even greater...

Tbph, it needed to be done. Just like Ole Yeller needed to be shot.

If I may put it obliquely, I intended to join AURORA at one point and then later backed off for almost precisely this reason (also to go volunteer in NoLa instead - which was probably a better use of time than internet spaceships, but I digress). Good fences make good neighbors, and the vol. dept. had way too few fences.

Here's thanking the volunteers who didn't succumb to corruption despite the lack of regulations and accountability (I'm sure you know who you are - and it is appreciated by all the players) and looking forward to a rebuilt, more professional events team.
