Wow, real GMs. I never seen a GM on forum before. Just devs, CMs and ISD. Althought many ISD are also GMs or something?
Man, you guys need to strike. You don't get black background. That should be a crucial part of your package.
They probably can't say anything negative about eve, but Im sure there is a drawback to being a GM. Like, I sometimes wonder how it must feel to be a maker of a great movie. Sure, you get that great feeling of creativity etc, but, you'll never know what that movie is like from the other side.
Of course, GMs will have played the game probably and still do play it, but you get what I mean? Some of the mystery and shiney will be gone.
GMs are paid right? Are you all young people? Like, 16-25? Or do you get family men as GMs too? Pay must be pretty decent if you do. |

-You are either an ISD or a GM, not both. -We don't need backgrounds. We ARE the background (a lame attempt to hint at Fight Club and the speech about "We are the people who guard you while you sleep. Don't mess with us!") -Well, the negative thing part you bring up, it is a difficult subject. It is difficult because we can just walk up to the programmers/developers and say "look, fix or die!". But of course we curse and swear when things go south... who doesn't? -The drawback isn't as big as you would think. The log viewer isn't as sexy as the client, thus we get more kicks are watching things from there -How are you going to support a product you don't know sh** about? Well, I know you CAN, technically, but it will never be pretty. To work as a GM, you are required to know EVE. -The age is 22-40 in the GM department and yes we are paid staff of CCP, in Iceland we have two female GMs, the rest ca. 25 are guys. I honestly don't know about the Atlanta guys whether they are feminine (those who I have seen have a hint of a beard), but I believe the China guys have at least one girl. |

The pay is pretty decent. The youngest GM is 18, and the oldest ones are old farts well into they're forties. And yes, a great deal of us are family men. Originally by: Vrizuh Man, you guys need to strike. You don't get black background.
Believe me, we know. We've been campaigning to get a black background like the cool kids for a while now. We don't talk about going on strikes though. Last time someone suggested that, Oveur descended from the heavens (also known as the second floor) and beat us all with his nerfbat. |

Thats either in game out of game OR petitions. It sounds like the perfect job. P.S copy and paste'ing all those petitions doesnt actually count as work. EDIT: ok i thought of something: censorship. Theres more work that goes into censoring the community than could have possibly gone into the game itself lol. |

Aren't game masters in the traditional sense, the dudes who place the monsters and setup the environment?
But its ISD who play the NPCs right?
It was bad enough they didn't give you the black background. The chance to zerg players and laugh about it is a GM's god given right.
Also I do hope that "thenoobcomic.com" is mandatory reading over there. Those GMs rule.

In the traditional Pen and Paper RPG sense, the Game Master/Dungeon Master just controls everything that isn't the players. Whether it be NPCs, or other behind the scenes type things. But there is a lot more behind the scenes going on in this. Plus, you can ask volunteers to do events, GMs...well, how many would subject themselves to torture for free? Maybe one of them is von Sacher-Masoch? |

Ive heard that working in customer support can do permanent damage to your ability to enjoy helping people.
A truer statement was never made. And people wonder why I'm such a bastard.... On a related note, I just got home from work, where I regularly have to deal with irate customers calling in for assistance. Moreover, irate customers that won't let you get a word in edgewise to help, then ***** at you for not helping them. Seeing as how I've been in the customer support industry for the last six years or so, my tolerance level for people being *******s is rather low. |

Deep in the mountain top luxury work pod environment something is stirring. The DEVS are awaking
They wake up at 5-am to the soft chiming of lark song - piped though the intercom system. Leaping ( fully awake and refreshed after their 5 hours power snooze ) from their hammocks.
After gourging themselves on gourmet sandwiches - they shower in fragrenced distilled water, don their eve baseball caps and bumbags (a snip at 89.99 dollars for the pair) then step aboard the moving walkway which deposits them on their allocated console station in a golden chamber.
Floating above the chamber is a giant hologram head, smiling beningly down on his workers. A bearded head. The head of that CEO guy (Magnuson or somthing).
A klaxon sounds - a cacophony of screeching starts -and the devs all begin work. Wild eyed - Gibbering and prancing - they work on how to RUIN! the privateer alliance on a huge board. This board is covered with bizarre scribblings on and they add to it as new ideas come up. If seen it in its entirety - this board would drive you insane. Only the giant floating head in his lofty vantage point can see it in its entirety - and only he has the IQ to put the seeming chaos into a new plan. A plan to ruin the last bastion of small gang pvp - the last defender of the little man (add whatever i normally say here).

I am very sorry. Unfortunately, the logs do not indicate that any GMs exist and we are unable to fulfill this request.

Check your logs again, I definitely made some petitions and was replied to by a GM on more than one occasion.
I can provide screenshots of the conversations and logs from my eve client that prove this, I even have fraps and other people who also claim to have communication via petitions - to the same GM. |
