You have the power.

Filter the phrase "Can I have your stuff?" to say "Please ban me, I'm not funny and shouldn't post."

That way when people post it, you can see their request and ban them, thus saving the rest of the forums readers from rubbish, unfunny posting.

And as an example, I'd lay good odds on the plebian masses dropping into this thread to post that phrase thinking that it's either funny, or worse, ironic. Comon mods, YOU HAVE THE POWAH, make the forums a better place. Very Happy

The filter is stupid as it is. I know why they have it, but why do they keep filtering nordic words and parts in longer words that is a word in its own (like fittable and such)

to add whole phrases sounds stupid as the filter in its own are stupid

No offence to the coders, but the Eve-o boards are amongst some of the most poorly coded I've seen. They aren't the worst, and they aren't awful, but they've a long way to go before being good.

The word filters are poor, but then the difference between a good WF and a bad WF is not usually noticed by the user, but it's a world away in terms of coding.

e.g. I come from a place in North Lincolnshire, UK, called "Scun thorpe". I used a space there. Why? S****horpe.

But I don't really mind the word filter as it stands, I would just like to see it added to. >:)

See, it's important, because then you wouldn't be able to post anymore. Can you see the trap you fell into there?

Shenko,

I found your post to be very well written and your argument to be very compelling.

One question though - Can I PLEASE have your stuff? Very Happy

Regards

Valorem

P.S - Mods do not have the ability to initiate a script like that.

but why do we need a word filter? I didnt get too damaged by hearing a few ugly words when I was a small boy. and every personal attack gets modded quickly so there is no big problem there eiter.

the reason they have it is to get it teen rated. Cant see the big fuss about such a rating. the ingame atmosphere is far more hostile than a few kittens or roosters on the forums ever will be

Au contrere. I notice every time I try to speak of my spaceship's cockpit. You know, the control room I am sitting in.

That, and Sauerkraut.

Just because my posts aren't littered with hundreds of tiny faces every other word, doesn't mean they aren't meta-ironic or meant as tongue-in-cheek. R>C>P.

Although in this case I really think it'd be an improvement to the forums. Seriously. I'm not even joking.

No i still cant see your point and i cant see any kind of importance here. And i usaly neither participate in flames or nonsense like this, infact iam more the less answering questions in the newbie forum or in Starbase / Mission Forums. So i dont see why you would want me to stop posting.
And it might be important to you ... however it is not for me .. and most others here, even if i sometimes wish a few people would simply get banned from the boards for the faming and such .. i get used to it...

Cheers,

PS: i forgot in my former post to add a PLEASE aswell :-) thanks

I propose the word filter is configured so that 'I' and 'my' are replaced by 'you' and 'your', and vice versa. I did something like that a while ago on a forum. Very effective really, you don't have to ban people. The only thing they flame is themselves. Razz

Personally I think the mods need the "powah" to ban people who post things referring to patches.

Mostly things that have apparently happened, but actually really didnt, and even say so in the patch notes.
