So I've been playing EVE for a couple years now, and I still haven't figured out just what is up with the Jovians. I know they're a fifth race, and that they are more advanced than the other races since they never crashed as a society after the Eden gate crashed, but I don't really know much else about them.

Are they ever going to be a playable race?

Is it possible to get some of their tech, and if not, is that ever going to change?

What is going on with them in space?

there are jovian ships in eve aparently.. i googled it b4 and they were, as for being a playable race.. i think CCP might do something like that even if it does remove Tomb's cool streak of being "the last jovian" :P

they are the imba race.. the secret ones who have cruisers like battleships and battleships like dreads.. super cool like.

Just read over the story again, apparently they made the first 3 Titan class ships... if their cruisers are like battleships and their battleships are like dreads... wtf are their Titans like?

In the beginning the Jovians where setup as a playable race in the future, but that was like 4 years ago. Something was mentioned players could 'evolve'to become Jovian.

Nowadays I think its doubtful we could ever play as them, and they will likely serve as ingame storyboard fuel.

IIRC the pod technology is (according to the backstory) meant to be Jovian

Anyone else flash back to O' Neill meeting the Asgard for the first time at this point?

Anyway, you know most of what there is to know about the Jovians. They are so much more powerful that they could not be made playable without being nerfed into pointlessness.

ok theres two ways to view this from CCP's point of view its a carrot on a stick their dangling in front of you something to get people to play towards.

On a RP point of view their a mysterious shadowy race who bought us the technology to control ships using pods. There is a higher puppet master out there trying to influence the rest of the empires and the jovians are trying to set things straight.

As for who what when as i said CCP's carrot on stick if you could play them there no more carrot.

Given the skill requirements and (presumably) cost of the ships we know about, i'm not sure they pose that much of a balance problem (at least sub-bs). IIRC, you needed all racial ship skills at 5 to fly one (so all frigs to 5 for the frig, all cruiser to 5 for the cruiser) and they use missiles. they'd make great mission ships, but for pvp I'm not sure they'd be any better than the best relevant t2 ship of the same hull size, and very few pilots would ever be able to fly anything bigger than the cruiser.

The models are in. The devs have piloted them on occasion (Sharkbait uses them for his stress tests on sisi), and if you look at the bottom left of the most recent size chart, you can see them.

But they're unbalanced though. Since they weren't rebalanced along with the rest of the ships when CCP boosted the HP, they're actually significantly worse than the playable race ships atm.

If CCP ever open them up to the public, they'll have to completely redo them.

We know they rely on gene manipulation, and managed to do bad things to their genes, who caused a drop in population.

But, the most interesting is the name: it mean, "inhabitant of gas giant" a jovian planet is a jupiter like planet, aka gas giant. and "jovian" as a term for a race or population, mean "of a gas giant".

It could mean a lot, really, all from they building a Matrioshka brain(rebuilding a gas giant into a powersource of a giant machine, a metalic encapsulated gas planet), to simply habitats floating on the gas clouds. Or other things, too.

What it means is that CCP were (thankfully) above calling them 'Martians'.

Jovian probably makes reference to them being very powerful, like Jove (the equivalent of Zeus) in mythology.

They have the power of the gods in short, so of course only the devs can fly them Razz. I hope they don't become a playable race to be honest, I would love to fly their ships and do some interesting things with their backstory, but get a bunch of Jovians in Jita hawking wares, like "wtb navy isseu vexor, accept my freform contarct!", and suddenly they become a lot less cool.

They're like a Ferrari I guess, their exclusivity and rarity makes them hot Cool.

Is there a data file or website somewhere with the unavailable faction ship info? Autolink isn't returning any for me. I've seen some of them before but I don't remember how I found them.

I'm guessing maybe it's the only one with a different model than its t1 counterpart? I didn't see any other T2 ships.

i believe (from memory) that they have 3 mother ships that are comparable to our titans, 1 out of service for refitting/upgrades at any time. And one special ship that's ****ing huge (their titan, comparable to no playable ship) that pretty much pwns (i can't remember it's name) It's the ship they used to escape their home world during that plague thing.

atm if you look on the database at their ship stats they're pretty sucky atm although could totally own if given some secret jove/Dev/gm mods, although all the other races ships would own more if they had the same mods. They appear to have been unaltered after all the other ships got a boost a few patches ago.

I think from this we can tell they're not going to make a shootable appearance in the foreseeable future until their ships are boosted.

I, for one, welcome our future Jovian overlords.

I always liked the idea of Jove being accessible only from a secret path available from an extremely difficult series of chance events that lead to all the characters on your account being deleted and Jove nub being substituted in it's place.
