Am I the only player who thinks that losing sec due to scrambling someone who has enough WCS on-board is wrong? If they can easily get away from you with no effort, i.e. trying to get out of range, is it really appropriate to lose the same amount of security status? I'm all for keeping the criminal timer on, but should we really be losing 0.5 sec even though our actions made no difference to the target? |

I shot at a kid yestoday with my shotgun, I missed and the kid only wet his pants, but he ran away. So why are they sending me to jail?  |

I see your point, and realise I should have thought it through a bit more.
In which case, i'd like to see how many people think we should lose a little less sec for it. |

Eh, look at it in terms of the game.
Security standing is how the in-game Police agency, Concord, views you. As a result, any aggressive action against another pilot, when reported (via FTL transmission from the ship the instant it is attacked), would cause Concord to lower their opinion of you.
That's like saying if go around grabbing on to people, intending to punch them, but if they manage to get away, nothing bad should happen to you. |

But if you grabbed with intention, you wouldn't have the same punishment as if you actually got around to punching them. |

Give it a little more time and then you will finally let go of your inhabitions and truely embrase your -10 standing. It took me about two weeks to finally come to this realization after deciding to go pirate, and I haven't worried about it since.   |

And its not. You get a decent sec drop for "punching them" (Destroying target), and a huge drop for killing (podding) them. the sec drop for opening fire is small, and if you plan to destroy the target anyway then its not worth worrying over. |
