So I was jumping through lowsec systems looking for some prey, when I saw this guy, Deimos42, in a rokh. He starts provoking me to fight him in local. Im in a maller. Even if he is a very young character, Im not a fool, im not going to fight him. If he has nos and blasters fitted, I would be toasted in secs. He even says in local that he has medium guns fitted ^^ But there is another guy in local: Slayton Ford. He is in a rupture. I say in local that I would agree to fight this rupture 1v1. The guy agrees. We form a gang. Some gang chat:

[ 2007.06.21 07:58:21 ] Ion Hound > i prefer you warp to me mate
[ 2007.06.21 07:59:03 ] Ion Hound > do you know this deimos guy?
[ 2007.06.21 07:59:10 ] Slayton Ford > hey, you know what i'm in, i dont know what your in and your outside of scan range
[ 2007.06.21 07:59:18 ] Slayton Ford > and no, hes red to me
[ 2007.06.21 07:59:21 ] Ion Hound > im in a maller
[ 2007.06.21 07:59:37 ] Ion Hound > I respect 1v1's so dont worry
[ 2007.06.21 07:59:49 ] Slayton Ford > just warp to me so I can go to be
[ 2007.06.21 07:59:51 ] Slayton Ford > bed*
[ 2007.06.21 07:59:51 ] Ion Hound > I give my word, no dirty tricks from my side
[ 2007.06.21 08:00:11 ] Ion Hound > do you respect your word?
[ 2007.06.21 08:00:22 ] Slayton Ford > of course

In the middle of our fight the rokh warps in.

What I thought at this moment is that I will be dead anyway, so I finish killing the rupture. I start shooting the rokh. The fight goes on for several minutes, his shields are slowly going down, my armor as well, but Im still tanking him even I dont have any cap left and my repairer is not working. When im started to take structure dmg, I think I will try to warp out one last time, and what you know! Im warping :)) 60% structure left, but I survived. I left the rokh with 5% shields and 95% armor :)

So remember these names: Slayton Ford and Deimos42. Dont expect them to have any honor or respect towards you.

i think there is not a lot of pple who respect the rules of a correct duel.
It's something bad, but honor is left for many, who just fight for the victory, or the money, and don't care for a real fight.
Remember that win without risks, it's win without glory.

Being disrespectful, dishonourable and despicable is what Eve is all about for many players. It's a role play game, and for whatever reason that's the role they want to play.

I had a similar experience with a few Racketeers guys. Popped one in a Cormorant (I'm in a Retri) and have a bit of banter in local, all nice and friendly like. He says he wants a " rematch" and will come back in another Cormorantwhich is fine by me. When he finally arrives he says he's in a Caracal, which is OK by me. When he shows up on grid, he's in a Drake, and again that's fine by me - I'm dubious I can break a Drake's tank but what the hell I'm game (this was Rev 1.4, so before the shield recharge nerf). We proceed to spar it out (I'd set his corp to negative standings because I'm a paranoid loon) and had evidently reached a stalemate, which being Amarr meant I had the upper hand (no ammo to run out of) when a corp mate jumps into local. He then warps onto the grid in a Dominix... talk about overkill!

So yeah, don't even bother with 1v1 duels. The odds are noone will bother honouring them.

It seems to me like the OP not only lives with it, he also lived through it.

If he wants to let it be known that certain individuals don't honour their word, he has every right to do so. In fact, I think that one's word is the only thing you truly own in EVE, and never break it.

The fact is that there are plenty people for whome respect and honour have a place in the game. Yet there seem to be plenty of people who can't live with that.

If someone »gives word« in EVE without having a long chat before I never would trust.
Even if you have the impression he's a clone with honor it's just a decision with a big risk you have to take.

Accept it as »bad ambush tactics« and learn for the next time that forming a gang with an unknown in low-sec is a big risk.

A usual pirate will give you word, kill you while his gang is laughing at your pod. That's the dark side of EVE.

I personally believe in honor. But hey ... I am Presidente Gallente :-)

Your a -10.0 with a 12million bounty; do you really think i'm going to pass up a chance at that bounty? I'll honor 1v1's with people i know or respect but not with a 4 month old -10 who had to do some really underhanded crap to get that low so fast. Oh, and the only reason why you didn't loose is because Deimos42 was such a newb that he a) didn't have Nos b) didnt have a target painter and c) forgot to deploy his drones.

Whats really funny though is your having to come whine to the eve-o forums about this.

Your just making yourself look worse. You can't just say you honor some 1v1 and not others. Do you really think that just because someone's character is 4 months old and -10 that you can't trust them? It doesn't work like that. I'd rather trust another pirate, then an anti-pirate in a 1v1, should I ever do them again.

Original post was well written without usual whining and name calling. How is it useless crap?

Dude, seems like you are a bit lost here...

Firstly, Im not whining here. I dont need to. I was the winner of that situation. Im just spreading word, so some ppl who will face you in the future know they cant trust you. Disrespecting 1v1's is so low as, I would say, being a corp or ore thief.

Secondly, having a sec status of -10, doesn't really indicate that Im dishonorful. This was actually the first 1v1 when I got ambushed. I personally never done anything like that. Again, I think its very low.

Thirdly, if you cant fly a ship properly, dont fly it. Simple as that. Usually I respect my enemies, sometimes I even give them advices on tactics and fittings, if they are willing to chat after the fight. Of course, its not going to happen in your case. You have 0 respect from my side and now you will be marked as pilot having no honour for all your eve career.

You will learn, that respect in eve matters much more than amount of isk in your wallet, more than number of your skillpoints , more than number of kills and victories you achieve. And I can buy I new ship and podclone for isk, while you cant buy respect for money.

What is funny to me is this:
a) you dishonored a 1v1 yet you still popped
b) the op is not smacking just venting his frustrations about the dishonored fight
c) you are dissing your gang mate in the rokh while the OP never smacked you or him for being noobish, having a bad fitting or whatever.
d) you're smacking the OP for being 4 months old and -10 which 'must' have been using 'underhanded crap' to get that low. Being -10 very fast just means you're into pvp hardcore. Can't see anything wrong with that.
e) I didn't read the OP's post as whining yet I feel you are.

I don't really think you are coming out of this very well. There are better ways to respond to such a thread.

Nobody is asking for refunds. I don't see what you wanted to imply by your statement.

Honour is for the weak and an excuse for their shortcomings? What does keeping one's word have to do with one's shortcomings? You are not making any sense whatsoever.

Excuses are for losers... I don't see any excuses on part of OP.

There are people who keep their word and those who don't. When someone who doesn't is named and shamed there is always an uproar among the lowlife of EVE. Speaking of excuses eh?

No wai Exclamation

This is always great when people miss the point of original post and start commenting without thinking. The point was not to complain, but to inform the community of what happened. How is this different from the usual "Look I ganked a noob" stories?

If this was a whine, fair enough you can blame whoever accepted 1vs1 to be stupid. Otherwise you are making yourself look stupid.

I don't give a flying **** what you think of me. I don't play EVE with the intent to get respect from the likes of you. The reason why I gave Deimos the SS was because he wanted revenge on you when you ganked him as a few week old newb. He wanted to fight you, I just helped set it up.

As to my rupture, how was it fitted improperly? Lets here it rather then just some smack talk. I will admit I am a complet newb to 1v1 fighting (to much time carbearing in emp or doing gang work in 0.0).

Oh, and speaking of smack talk, you should count yourself as lucky your not currently suspended/banned for the crap you said local afterwords. It was some of the most racist, sexist and immature talk I've seen to date in Eve.
