I beg to differ..

Trading bought me every single capital construction component, all 4 dreads, all 4 carriers, all 4 fighter, every mod, weapon & ammo bpo, as well as put myself and 4 other corp mates in "very" nicely fitted carriers and dreads"....

Hardly a "terribly unprofitable profession"

And yet, despite all that savvy in the trade game, you completelly fail to spot sarcasm in a post... Rolling Eyes

As a trader with maxed out trade skills, I wanted to congratulate the op for writing a clear concise trading guide for the beginning player. This guide will get most aspiring traders a good feel for working buy and sell orders.

Some of the replies in here are good as well, but are probably considered trading 102 or trading 103.

I'd like to see a follow up guide for ninja trading. How to dump on your competition while still maintaining a profit margin and leaving them with goods they can't move in the same region. :)

If you can tie up your competition's investment capital, you win. Of course CCP did this to me with the LP store implants, but that is part of trading, you can't control everything. Anyone need a cheap implant? :)

I've been trading for months and have no complaints about the returns I am seeing, yet I am going to read through this again. Excellent thread.

even Economics class got a little tough sometimes..But I dont get when he is saying in the guide, that when there is a price gap between buys and sell, buy that item for MORE and sell for LESS. I just see alot of lost profits. Or did I misunderstand what he just said?

A point to make regarding selling mission loot.

Selling anything where you do not know the trade behaviour is what I call speculation (same for buying too).

So you've got some mission loot and there's a worthy gap between buy and sell (and it's actually worth selling). When you put it up for sale write down what it was, when you put it in for sale and what you initially set the price to.

When you finally sell it all, work out how long it took and what the competition was like.

If it was a resonably fast seller and you were happy fiddling with the price if you had to try doing a small buy order.

I've over committed on a few things and been left with a decent amount of stock that I just can't get rid of in a reasonable time frame. This is a waste of time and isk, so just thought I'd add that point.

Sun Win, I just want to say that your guide is definitely one of the best on forums. Before reading your guide I just couldn't understand the basics of trading. Many tried to explain this stuff to me, but it just wasn't getting through. You got talent, I'll tell you that. Thank you for helping people.

Well, i wanted to add my 2c to outbidding too. I'm an .01 outbidder and i managed to screw an aggressive outbidder. We were trading heavy arbalests, the gap was for about 2-3 mil (15-25% profit), i kept buying those arbies for a very good price, and had lots of them stocked, he came and started to outbid me aggressivelly, i started to outbid him by .01 as usual, then he started to buy all cheaper arbies on the market and putting higher sell orders. He wanted to raise the prices, i talked to him, telling him that he doesn't need bigger prices, since he gets lower profits, but he kept raising it.
We played this game untill he raised the price to 15-15,5 mil(from less than 13), that's when i waited him to be offline, sold all my arbies to him, got rid of his order, put my low order, untill he was back online, i managed to buy some more. Then he placed another order for 15 mil, i filled it too. I did it untill i didn't have more arbies in stock, and then i told him to check jita, his prices were more than 1 mil higher than jita, i could easily buy lot's of arbies in jita and sell to him directly. Since that moment i never heard of him, he didn't answer to my mail and prices for heavy arbalests in my region are now little more tha 13mil, as it is supposed to be :). So plese, don't be aggressive, traders never give up, i keep outbidding all orders even if i don't have profits at all, i'll stop only when i start loosing money on that item, but then every1 else looses money too, so it's no point, and anyway, i keep an eye on every item i trade closely, so u can't beat me with aggressive outbidding. But u are right in 1 though, this is very annoing, but i don't leave the market because of that :).
Good luck and be carefull.
