I have two computers, and would like to set them up in an efficient mining system. From what I understand so far, the exequror is a very good price/performance mining cruiser. Should I pair this with a bargain freighter? The Iteron 4 and Badger seem to give the most holding space for the money out of all the freighters.

I guess what I want is something that can carry at least as much as I can mine in the time it takes to go from the asteroid field to base and back.

Do you guys think this is a good idea?

If your making a Mining operation with yourself, and its going to be long term, get a mining barge. getting to Med barge is very easy use Strip miners on this and get Mining Upgrade Mod if Poss.

Get Iteron 4, and if you mine faster than you can haul start training for Iteron 5 before then, Iteron 5 gives can give the most Cargo Space when fitted with cargo Expanders for a Industrial Ship.

I suspect that an Osprey could mine more per minute (than an Exequror), since it can carry 3 miner II's and has a 20% mining yield bonus per level of the Caldari cruiser skill.

If you are going to use cruisers this is a good point, The Mini scythe looks good too, For Gallantee, Vexor is the mining vessel but only gives a 10% bonus

I think that one might be a closer call than it appears.. the Exequror already has 33% more turret mounts, and TWICE the drone space (I've heard it can support 5 miner IIs?).

I really dont think your second account will be doing much if your using cruisers to mine. id get your second character to mine for a while too, then get it to insta back to the station to grab your indy clear your can. and repeat.

Unless I'm mistaken in my understanding, the Scythe/Osprey with 3 miners and minmatar/caldari cruiser trained to lvl 4, which gives you an 80% bonus to yield will out-mine a ship with 5 miners. The Osprey however could fit 4 mining drones, the Scythe only holds one. If you train cruiser skill to level 5 you get double the base output and if you are able to fit a mining upgrade (CPU usage could be a problem) then you can get even more.

The other question would be if you could actually fit 5 miners IIs to the Exequror. It has a 250tf base CPU output, the Miner II uses 80tf. Even with good skills you'd be pushing it to fit 4 of them.

Really, the best lower level mining is in the cruisers designed for it (Osprey & Scythe). Next step up is the Retriever... the cruisers can out-mine the first level barge.

I've recently been mining with someone in 0.0 and they way he does it just blew me away. In an elite battle cruiser... with 7xMiner IIs, he mines exactly the same amount as I do in my Retriever with T1 strips and can tank a triple battleship spawn continuously at the same time. It's quite a sight to see!!

Cheers

Sounds like the Osprey is the way to go for a mining cruiser! And everyone says Caldari ships suck at mining.. Confused

I think I'll go with the badger for freighter. It's cheap and can hold more than I probably need it to, plus I've got a spare Caldari character so I won't have to train as many skills..

lol, i used to mine in 0.0 with a Brutix fitted with 7 miner II's, the sweet part is being able to tank rats and use drones on them too, then i make cans and move mined ore into them with a 1:20min timed flag on it. when time is up i warp to station and grab hauler to move mined ore to station, ...rinse and repeat.

The execourer can only fit 4 mining lasers.
I use one with 3 miner2 and 1 dual diaode (or something like it)
To get this to work i have 2 CPU units on it.
And forget about mining upgrades. if you use those you only get 3 miner 2 to run.
The 'good' thing about that is that it gives you the option to mount a tractor beam.

But after a few days i went back to my 3miner2 +1 mining laser.
I use this boat to mine untill a can is full then switch to my itty4.
My other account now has a retriver and in 58 days a coveter.

i fill a can about every 40 min with this setup and only mine 0.6 and up.

Hmm I should mention that I'm on a 14 day trial.. looks like my ship selection is limited.. (no industrials for one..)

Well, you will need two accounts to run on two seperate machines, you cannot log in to the same account twice without it disconnecting the first.

That said you could use 2 cruisers for mining, Ospreys would be a good start point, if however you are planning to mine long term, jetcan mining in an out of the way system with two barges is more than reasonable proposition, as you can dump the ore into cans and then when you think you have enough you can run both back to the station and swap to haulers to bring it back in. It's a technique I used in empire successfully for 2 years.

I'm guessing you're Gallente.

Thorax/Iteron 4

Execuror sucks. It has alot of space but that's it.

Barges are nice, but they can't really defend themselves. If you're gonna sit in highsec, go for the barge.

Thorax can handle belt rats in lowsec.

How much more lucrative is lowsec mining? Like percentage wise, how much more money do I get for my time?

I'd say you get about 50% more in lowsec when mining Hedgergite and Hemorphite than from mining Omber. Now in 0.0 you can make a lot more... 6 times more... Now hauling the ore back to empire and keeping your ships in one piece is the challenging part.

Once you get 4-6 ships mining in 0.1-0.4 you can afford the luxury of dedicating one of your ships to be an escort.

I used to do this in Arwa back in the day (one of Ginger Magician's haunts), and we rarely got fussed.

At the moment, they do. Ospreys with cruiser 5 have effectively 6 mining lasers. All the other races get battleships which can fit 7 or 8 mining lasers.

However it's largely academic, as the training time to retriever is similar to that of osprey, and they're far superior. Yield's comparable, but getting ore every 3 minutes is much less stressful.

Osprey is a very good mining cruiser, yes, and if you're in high-sec then you may find that 2 ospreys mining into a jet-can is a good way to do it. Send one back to bring a hauler out every now and again. Watch out for ore theives though.

If you want to move into low-sec then your income will increase a lot, but you will need to protect yourself. Low-sec roid belts are prime targets for the most common profession in EVE - pirates. I'd advise aiming for dual battleships and some PvP experience before considering low-sec mining.

Where are you mining?

2 Osprey's will mine a fair amount, and will also be able to carry launchers to dissuade any looters.

Then one of you goes back to station every half hour and does a industrial run.

I mined omber in a brutix (yes, i know). It had a full rack of Miner II's coupled with a mining upgrade and 2x co-proc I. I got 1800-1900m3 per three minutes (one strip cycle). Thats what a retriever does. And this baby can tank, too ;)

That's a bad idea, there are a lot of griefers around at the momment who can steal and hope you fire on them. If you fire on them they come back in a battleship...

First off, if you are really going to be mining seriously, pay up so you can train into a barge and an industrial.

I am not 100% on the training time involved, but I belive that you can get one account into a cruiser/hauler in the time you can get the other into a covetor. That way you can have your hauler helping you fill the can. IF you are looking to do lowsec however, might want to spend the extra time and go for a mining BS and just keep the hauler docked unless grabbing ore to minimize risk.

better off holding till Covetor imo, from what i hear Osprey and Retriever arent that far apart in ore per hour.

Given an average set of skills not dedicated t omining (i.e. doing it occasionally to pad the wallet), the typical ship / skill progression is something like this:

1) Mining frigate
2) Procurer
3) Mining cruiser
4) Retreiver
5) Mining BS / BC
5) Coveter

Anything past that, and you're not just dabbling... you're a miner. At that point, just admit it and skill up already. ugh
