I have written in gen chat with this idea, I guess its been posted before but I hope it will add a bit of new spin.

The concept is pretty simple - the range that you warp to a gate from depends on a couple of factors. These are:

BMs cannot be placed within a given distance of a gate - the lower the sec state of the system the greater the range.

1. The Security Level of the System. The lower the security Level the further away your ship will arrive.

2. The relations ship of your faction - with the faction 'controling' the system. Obviously this would meld with Kali. If you have good standings with the faction that the system you are piloting in 'belongs to' you get a moderate bonus to how close to the gate you warp in at. So if youre in the good books with Amarr Empire and you are in one of 'their' systems you can travel quickly through it. If not it gets a little bit tougher. A bit like preferential treatment from the Gates navi computer.

3. Low and High sec 'islands' (i.e a small cluster of systems) exist within a given region. So a small cluster of 0.6 systems might exist within Venal for example. Why? Well this gives pilots somewhere to travel too, and from. A desperate dash across 0.0 to some high sec space on the edge of the cluster to deliver some vital supplies? A minmater stronghold deep in Amarr space?

4. Holding systems for your prefered faction therefore has its advantsges - its your turf, you can travel across it faster, and easier.

I don't know how exactly Kali Factions will work, but I am thinking that some systems 'factional' alignments will change depending upon players succesfully completing missions etc for that given faction. With this idea there is a real benefit to having done so - your faction controling a region/system gives you a advantage within that system.

Any thoughts?

Having read another post here, I get an impresion there are some similiar thoughts - or at least variations on a theme (see Spoonthumbs postLinkage
)
ensuring the 'neutral' player does not suffer would be the key so i would suggest factional alliegance does not have a massive impact upon your abilty to travel through a given system, it just helps a bit. The security level of a system would be more influential.

Do you need to grind missions to get this 'faction' bonus?
I would say yes - its rather like having a extra reward for serving your employer. Neutrals of course could run missions for different npc factions and get 'ok' bonuses throughout space.

PC Alliances could also give this kind of 'faction' standing to their pilots as part of a contract bonus. An alliance would want to give these out sparingly (you dont want a traitor leaving your Alliance and having the abilty to zoom around your systems). Alternatively Alliance 'standings' in this manner might need to degrade over time, or might be adjustable by the alliance itself.

If you can't insta, then you're dead in the camp. Useless for PvP.

"The Security Level of the System."

Why? What does this have to do with TRAVEL? It related purely to CONCORD presence..

"The relations ship of your faction"

So basically you are REQUIRED to grind missions to insta. Moreover, you must refuse all missions against the other faction so not to stuff your travel time there so we're looking at long, slow gains.

"Low and High sec 'islands'"

Um. So areas of CONCORD everywhere, pockets which make taking the region largely pointless because they have a place to hide forever EVERYWHERE, not just in the NPC station regions...

You just force boring slow grinds of ALL factions. And yes, the "neutral" player will have to do the same as everyone else. You can't AFFORD not to have instas, you can't afford NOT to do it. RPers might as well move on.

And no, allowing player alliances to do is it to make the large alliances basicly invulnrable. Attacking them in their home space is a complex way of comitting suicide against an opponent with a drastic, unreplicateable movement advantage. Alliances won't give out ANY.

Agreed, I think the faction link would result in mission grind - in retrospect not a good thing.

do you have a proposal Maya - I'd like to give it a read.
