Welcome to yet another Dev Blog, considering what happened last time I announced one of these I'm hoping it will go better this time. Very Happy

This time Hammerhead talks about reverse engineering, salvaging, factional warfare and some ideas that might make all you IPO shareholders happier. Wink

Strangely enough, there is no mention of boobies anywhere. ShockedEmbarassed

So, why are you reading this, go read the Blog instead: STOP! Hammer time...

(Any similarities between the topic and a hollywood movie are purely coincidental) Laughing

sounds cool, enough of this stuff (especially Factional Warfare) would defiantely get me back in empire for a while.

It also looks as if im going to have to stop putting off getting a few research agents. Crying or Very sad

Shocked

Some VERY interesting stuff. Will rigs change the ships visuals? That could be pretty cool, and change how you approach fighting a ship.

hmm....this Rigging thing kinda bugs me, what's there to prevent two corpmates from blasting each other ships just to farm these things, because if they can, then all such upgrades won't be worth crap, and salvaging wont be a reasonable career unless youre a thotaaal farmar

Um...cost? Base the kit components on the ship that gets destroyed. The components dropped are random and can only be used to make kits for the next class of ship down..or perhaps two classes.

Suppose that what with the random nature of the drops and all you have to destroy five battleships in order get a 1% boost of one attribute of a cruiser..you think farming will still be a problem?

I also imagine that the rigs will be based upon the "quality" of the ship. The probability of getting a "good" missile rig would probably be better on a Cerberus with tech 2 launchers than a Caracal with tech 1...

you get components, not a full rig. Rigs are built

Wrong way to do that. Build a bunch of bare tech 1 battleships with refined rat loot, max insure them and then stick the good rig you get on your Field Command ship/HAC that cost 200+mil. If you got really good component rigs you could probably sell the ship at a good profit, even with killing a bunch of your own battleships for it.

If he meant efficiency then he did spell it wrong. It is possible he meant efficacy though...

I'm looking forward to rigging although I think you could be right about it being exploited.

I guess I used the wrong term, there will obviously be different types of components, and presumably different qualities of components. A Cerberus would have better probability of leaving behind "better" components than the Caracal.

Rigging sounds pretty darn cool, but as other pointed out, we players are jerks and will exploit it. Mad

The Invention thing sounds good, but I can easily see alliances being the only ones to benefit from this. At least with the horrible lottery system some little unknown guy has a chance at at BPO. In Kali only super advanced alliance backed and protected players will be able to farm (since all players do is exploit, so yes, we'll farm these places) the mission areas to get the needed parts.

System zoom sounds pretty sweet though.

It all sounds good. Cool

I have questions about rigging. It just like enhancements from CoV and allows you to individualize. Its a great idea.

What I'm worried about is stacking bonuses. Maybe not allowing anymore than two (or one) like bonuses per ship. Otherwise the fear you have will be realized. Or just hit them with a stacking nerf.
To help balance I also think there should be a chance to damage/destroy the rig when you try and switch it out. Or just make them non-repairable (a better idea).

Now about how they are salvaged, NPC only or a combo of NPC and player?
Now I'm sure you've already considered what could happen if rigs are PC dropped. It may become profitable to build, insure and then farm your own ships with an alt just so you can collect or have a chance to collect rigs and then sell them on the market.
And please dont make the good ones exclusive to deep 0.0 space, if its a combonation of PC/NPC drop.

And last, please make sure when you're designing rigs you dont forget the non-combat ones. Like the one that may affect cargo size or maybe even allowing someone to jump/dock at farther ranges, or even better, one that increases lock time. Or boosts sensor strenght. (You guys have this habit where you mostly forget about the non-combat side of the community because its not so vocal Rolling Eyes)

Oh yeah and to close, BOOBIES!!

Player ships dropping wrecks which make rigs?

Good blog !

Only remark I;d have to make is that I don't like how it seems that those tech2 bpc's one could produce rely nearly totally on agent running again (hacking: cosmos, RP's: research). I'd have hoped for a more creative spread of resources. But maybe you'll implement hacking into complexes and explorationary content too right ? Maybe into those shipwrecks ?

Just add something that makes it not totally reliant on agents please.

T2 becoming baseline... wonder if we'll see some t2 bpo's on escrow in the next few days... Razz

Rig introduction will definently spawn some very fun & dangerous setups. When can we begin to test the stuff on the test server? Hopefully not 1 week before deployment on TQ. There will be many bugs with this many new features. Cool

So Invention are in Kali One, but will Salvaging & Ship Rigging also be? And what else of the things you talk about will be in Kali One?

That seemless zoom you talk about, thats only on your internal testing server for now, right? Really, really want to try this one....

Overall a very cool blog with lots of useful information. I cant really think of a good way to promote gangs and at the same time discourage blobbing... sounds difficult.

sounds good :

Will wrecks change visual style by:
- shipmodel (like arma has a different wreck than a raven)
- shiptype (frigate vs cruiser)
- way of destruction (laserholes vs missles)
- speed of destruction (incapacitated vs totally obliterated)
- not at all
- something else

Man this is gunna be sweeeeet!

I can just imagine working on salvaging a wreck when someone sneaks up on me and pops me getting 2 wrecks to play with. A nice little addage to the game.

I also like the idea of being able to reverse engineer and invent. Waiting around for a t2 BPO with my agent in the lottery is a little diheartening. Id be stoked to turn a bunch of rat loot into a even a 1 run bpc of something hot!

I am, however, a little confuesd about how the FW is gunna work. I keep thinking this means i as a minnie can blow away any awarrian slave driver i see no matter where they are. How is this FW looking to play out? (i know hammer said he isnt sure quite yet but i still am hungry for speculation)

Good work CCP. I look forward to the new changes. Tiem to train up my hacking skills.
