I can wake up on a perfect day, start up EVE, and start playing. As usual I take a look at the forums while docked/mining or whatever.
And all I see is whining, complaining, and some downright combustible persons shouting out in just about every direction of the universe.
I have to say - over the last few weeks, the attitude of some of the players in here are just... well - bad, and brings about a bad mood.
Rarely I see players paying attention to detail, or actually give CCP credit for what they do. So, get a cup of coffee, and smile before you take on your miner-hat, pirate-hat or hug the carebear and n00bs and start posting here.
Or is it just me? (I am wearing my asbestos-underwear, for those of you who would like to flame me) |

No, It's not you IMHO There have been 'incidents' recently that have set off the more vocal members. Don't forget that the majorty of EVE players don't post - The Quiet Majority |

Well the past few weeks have been somewhat of a ride for CCP to say the least, the entire 4S and SAS situation which was a complete mess from the start.
Then their main player base start getting annoyed at the fact the servers cant handle fleet battles and they keep dropping nodes and the like. I expect it to pick back up soon so dont worry.

S!
There is not a single game or it's forum where there is no snipe* or similar, from my experience. I joined EVE a few dasy ago and like it a lot due it's many possibilities etc. Of course there are some things I do not like, but the positive things heavily outweigh the bad ones..so grabbing my cup of coffee, sitting down and training my poor fledling pilot :) |

Don't forget that a lot of people post their complaints and criticisms because they really like Eve and feel all protective and maternal about it. There's always a background level of whining, like radiation or something, but that can usually be ignored or is swiftly dealt with by our forum attack squad (aka the 23). Just recently, there's been a couple of things where CCP have put a foot wrong, so people have expressed their opinions quite loudly on the subjects concerned. Nothing to be too alarmed about. |

I think that it's fair to say that there's been a certain amount of unease amongst some players in the last few weeks - both over some of the proposed changes to the game and CCP's general policies. |

I used to be protective of Eve. Every time a colleague asked me about Eve, i've sent them forum stories or magazine articles and tried to make them enthousiastic.
Nowadays I just say : Don't start playing... The lag is crap, the support has much to be improved upon and CCP GM's/ISD make some very weird choices to say the least.
I have a love/hate relationship with this game (actually I just wanna stop playing but somehow i cant :P) but will still try to do anything to improve it.
I know the GM's/ISD/DEV's are hard working people like myself but I miss a connection with these people. Almost everything I read that's posted by them I get suspicious.
A few examples : 1) CCP : News item, omgwtfwerulez!!!1111, the server has 17k concurrent users. My response : crap, even more people that eat away resources for my gaming experience. When will they upgrade to support all the new people ? Never, is the first thing I think.
2) CCP : We changed the names of corps, deal with it (was actually posted less friendly then i put it here). My response : Hell no. CCP themselves use the same naming conventions for NPC's. "Lead by example" is something I believe in strongly. My reactions were harsh. If I had gotten banned I would have probably cancelled my three accounts.
3) CCP : We can't reimburse lag induced fleetbattle losses because the servers don't show anything. My response : work on a way to solve this ASAP but just use some common sense already. I get the feeling the GM's/ISD dont play the same game as us.
4) CCP : There is no lag My response : uhmmmmmmmm ?
5) CCP : OMG!!!! Our servers can't handle Jita! Please get out all of you ! My response : FFS! This is a problem you yourselves created ! Do you guys ever think decisions through ??? Doesn't anyone there use common sense ?
6) CCP : YAY, we have an event : The amarr emperor died/gallente elections. My first reaction : COOL ! More events. My second reaction (days/weeks/months later) : WOW! This is taking a long time Third reaction (weeks/months later): snipe* this why do we even bother doing these events ? Stop getting my hopes up :S
I could go on for hours......
This game has made me even more sarcastic than I already am. Which makes me sad as I play this game to be a little happier :S |

youre sentimens come down interesting all the changes to existign things are now aimed at fixing lag ie drones etc and insta changes - why because its easier to alter the gameplay while still creating a new balance than boost resources on a hardware (costs more money) |

There are quite a few people whining in here and making bad vibes, no doubt about that, but there will allways be, thats a fact of life. I try to pick the posts without those, becouse I love EVE and dont have anything negative to say about this super cool universe that CCP made for us.

true. i might complain every now and then. but i love the game.
unless missiles get a doble nerf. shields take a 50% hp nerf. and Raven nerfed to a exspencive mining ship.

this is my take on it.
every online game ive played ( uo,eq,swg, daoc) has declined in popularity , mainly because of nerfs, game adjustments ect that have changed the whole feel of the game, and made it STUPID PERSON friendly.
Ive totally seen this, it all starts with the whines "make it easier for me", "change this", "i dont like that", "its unfair", is now the cry of the carebear.
what is a carebear?
carebear: a person who cannot engage in any pvp combat without haveing the superior side, wether they deserve it or not.
carebears have ruined most games out there nowdays, they seem to go from one game to the next, always spouting out whats not fair, what needs to be changed, "or ill quit" until nerfs come, the game changes, and they, having gotten what they wanted, BUT not having any common sence, so they still cannot play the game to be the best, move on to the next game, only to repeat the circle of ineptness.
so where are we now?
the people with bigger mouths than brains are here now, the whines of " change this or else" are increasing, I can only pray that the devs take all this crap with a grain of salt, and stay the course, cause REMEMBER THIS: people bought and play your game for what it is, not what what it will be.
ps. yes im jaded, im kinda bitter bout this whole thing, haveing seen the rise, decline , and fall of every game ive devoted my time to. become the best of whatever ive played, only to have it all fall away due to those , that cannot play the game because they cannot understand what it takes to be the best.

then its up to the smarter players to put forward valid proposals on balancing and ingame changes (we need to realise its aimed at lag so u can have large fleet battles and instas - manufacturing - and drones cause a lot of lag) therefore CCP are looking at reducing those lag inducing things before intorducing new hardware platforms (requires extra programming effort) its a short term solution but what else can they do hardware upgrades cost more than software upgrades mind u the hardware upgrades are coming.
The insta changes are ok my new idea about sig radius and baseline speed affecting the randomness factor ie frigs out more often but they are quicker - freighters land closer in under 5km still allows time to lock and web and prevent from jumping but at the same time increases their survivability whilst having moderate protection from corp mates as well (the balance needs to be struck) most of those other games went upended because balance wasnt considered.
So if u can think with all hats on at once its a lot better aim youre suggestions at a balance not just to favour youre gameplay or swing to far the other way by favouring the "other side" im both carebear - PVPer and pirate at times - also miner mission runner producer researcher POS operator and many other roles. |

Edited by: Selic on 15/11/2005 13:24:15 The only thing that ****es me off about this game is the repeated unexpected downtime. I've seen people say this is only recent, within the past few weeks, and I hope this is true. (I only started playing 3 weeks ago) I come from another rpg that only had these problems maybe twice in 6 months and I'm surprised that a game so popular and highly rated has so many uptime problems. =( |

well around dt and just after is dangerous but for other timezones the game works quite well - tuesdays are worst and with the recent surge in players like yorueself congragating in core systems and also the alliances coming in to play my fleet is bigger than youre fleet and going head to head instead of smalelr engagements this is creating a lot of new issues on stability (of course RMR nerfing instas - drones and manufacutring changes as well as a host of other chagnes and enhacements and then in the near year the blade servers and 64 bit CPUs should also reduce the lag quite a bit)
Give it a minimum of 3 months before making up youre mind and remember even the recetn dt is still 4 times better for such a large game than something like WOW which is nearly always down and if TQ is down after a couple of months u can jump on SISI to do some pre patch testing |

Take any MMORPG and throw 200+ players in one place and watch it lag to death. MMORPGs are designed to be low-bandwidth programs with many players, but there's a point where the servers just can't handle it any more and throwing on more hardware doesn't help either. |

For any given situation that involves a change: 85% will say nothing. Either because they think it's good, or because they're not too bothered either way. 13% will whinge, have tantrums and declare it the end of the world. 1% will have constructive criticsm to add. 1% will like it and say so.
This is regardless of whether it's the internet, an MMO, RL, or the human race. Except on the internet there's a little more anonmity so the flamers feel they can do so with impugnity. |
