I'm wondering, if there are any Symetrical ships in this game.. (except for shuttles) At first I thought.. the Maulus (gallantean frigate), but after taking a closer look, there's a little curved opening on the right side of the ship. Then I thought.. the Punisher (Amarr frigate) but then I saw one light on the left side isn't working, whilst the on the right side is! So I ask you, are there ANY symetrical ships in the game? So far I havent found any |

Mega and raven aint symmetrical. One wing of the raven is shorter than the other and the mega has a exhaust or something on one side.
Symmetrical ships off the top of my head..
Dominix Wreathe Hoarder Mammoth Iteron 1/2/3/4/5 Rifter Breacher Armageddon Apocalypse Caracal Executor Slasher Merlin Rupture Bellicose
I'm sure there's a lot more.. but that's just off the top of my head. Generally, gallente ships are *mostly* symmetrical (megathron, thorax), caldari ships rarely are, and minnie and amarr ships are most of the time. |

Dominix, Harpy and Hawk are out of line and symetrical. I'm glad most Eve is asymetrical. |

<weeps for the beauty that is the Amarrian Inties>
Now if they would just implement Selim's idea on changing the bonuses so people would actually fly them........
Where are the battleships and cruisers based on this design. Surely they would have to be better than a hairdryer....err Maller.

In space there is no reason for a ship to be symetrical anyway. Aircraft are all symetrical because of the nature of aerodynamics, but in space there is no air to deal with so no reason for a ship to be symetrical.
I like the fact most aren't symetrical anyway, to me ships that are symetrical look unrealistic, too much like a movie designers idea of what looks cool rather than what looks functional. |

But why add a wing to one side, when you dont add a wing to another side? It just looks silly.. |

It's a good thing that most ships are asymmetrical. Symmetrical ships get boring after a while.

I think they tried really hard to make almost all the ships somewhat asymmetrical in at least a minor way. For instance, the Merlin/Harpy/Hawk is NOT perfectly symmetrical. If you look at the antennae on each of the 'wings', they are of different lengths on each side. I believe the caracal is the same way, but I don't have one to look at offhand. Nitpicking, I know I enjoy the asymmetry, however. They really made it work in most cases (the raven a notable exception. what a pile ), and the ships look unique, not like the cookie-cutter ship designs you start to see over and over in space games. |

Asymmetry for the win, without it, the ship-bank of EVE would have been so much more boring I would turn off graphics totally |

Edited by: Arowe Telak on 25/07/2005 01:39:05 No caldari ship is truly symmetrical. Even the merlin and caracal have slight differences that a close inspection reveals.
The merlin is the closest though, with the only differences being a different protruding spires in each wing and i think maybe a small extension on one side, can't remember for sure though. (i'm sure about the different spires)
The caracal actually has a large block attached on one side right where the structure is angled to join the outside wings to the fuselage. |
