You cant use them in empire and in order to fuel them you need racial ice, so this means you ideally have to use the same race ships as there is ice.

To me this seems kind of daft, i mean we wont see any mixed fleets in a particular region it will basically be, Gimped.

Also if you want to go kill your enemy say the Galante Twisted Evil for example you will need to stock up on ice, ok logistically this could be a problem and i know dreads arnt meant to be easy, but i live in detorid, so amarr space is 60+ jumps away, making my amarr bs5 being worthless unless i want to haul ice for a living.

Ok getting to the point is they anyway we could convert other races ice into our own ice using some kind of replication device (not 100% efficiency), im new to the whole ice mining thing but i think this way we wouldnt be forced to train for ships we dont want to fly.

I see this being a problem for Caldari the most. Citadel torps and ice in the cargo hold. Perhaps they will have a fuel hold seperate from the cargo hold, simular to the drone bay.

So, is it confirmed that dreadnoughts will need ice in it's unrefined form to jump?

I believe TomB's blog states that you'll need the refined form of whatever racial ice suits your DN.

From TomB's DevBlog Post

In order for the jump drive to activate, three criteria must be met, which are:
Arrow Enough capacitor - base jump requires 95% of the capacitor which can be reduced with a skill

ArrowEnough racial [Ice] Isotopes located in the cargo hold for a given jump (Oxygen Isotopes for Gallente Dreadnought for example) - amount costs per light year and can be reduced with a skill

Arrow Solar System within jump range seen on the world map in 3D (unflattened view) - jump range of Dreadnoughts can be increased with a skill

Im not sure if "isotopes" means refined or unrefined ice since i have never mined the stuff. It basically gimps you in 0.0, since getting ice out there is a problem, and it gimps you in empire because you cant use them in >0.5 systems.

It makes it more of a siege weapon, with an actual supply line required for operation.

You can mine ice in 0.0 as well not that hard. But you need the right system to offer the type of ice. Also its the isotpoes that will be needed and not the ice. Refining ice gives u isotopes which is what you will need.
Amarr - Helium
Caldari - Nitrogen
Gallente - Oxygen
Minmatar - Hydrogen

Uh if your group has a dread it should have a frieghter as well, just make a trip to the desired region, buy enough isotopes to fill up the cargo hold and bring them back... if you run out within a year lemme know..

I think the devs stated that things like dreads would be seriously pre-nerfed on release.

Besides, these are meant to be very big and very powerful ships. You don't want every 3month old player going around in them.

Considering the size of the cargoholds of these Dreads (10k), maybe it'll be a little less of a problem. Besides if you intend to do a large scale siege op, you'll need atleast one indy with you.

Oh, and Amarr using helium.... that must be a joke^^

O well, if you cant learn how to adapt and maintain the logistics for it then you prolly should not be flying one.

Thats not a jab at you btw. I'm just trying to say its not going to be a ship for you and two interceptors to go around a blow stuff up in. Buy a frighter in empire, bulk order your race ice. Drop off in your area of operations. Use bloackade runner to resupply.

Dread construction and maintenance will be a corp project, so I imagine stockpiling a little isotope material ought to be a fairly facile concern.

More business for the ice mining contract corps in empire I guess :)

This is a joke. Isotopes are all 0.15m3. Most dreads have cargo bays aproaching or surpassing indys. Where's the problem?

lol, nah, but looking at the new map its not going to be that difficult to get ice in, since 0.0 areas are like swiss cheese.

Very ill thought out but hey, ill have to work with it.
