Just wondering, is anyone else playing EVE from work? I sure do, although combat missions is out of the question Very Happy

I once almost got caught by a colleague who asked me what I was doing, I just said that a friend had sent me a short funny video (as people in offices just love to do, which I actually I don't like but what the heck it worked as an explanation). Cool

Yes and no, I change skills from time to time....our firewall prevents from connecting, but we have a seperate DSL to do testings from Smile

Wish I could, but being in a large IT Company, it is not possible to connect through the firewall...Damn, I hate these firewalls

Our PC's at work are bloody awful. They'd struggle to play Solitaire nevermind Eve.

If I really really have to I can connect from work, but my laptop while being relatively new is just not up to the task. I use it in an emergency if I need to switch skills.

Otherwise, I could connect from any number of decent worstations and play the game, but I don't. Just wouldn't feel right about it I guess...

Well I used to browse these forums at work but now they've been firewalled - too much "chat" not enough work maybe?

Now my job just sucks all the time.

Sad

I sometimes log in from work to switch training or check on order status, and chat with corp.

Being the IT Manager has its perks. If I ever caught myself playing a game on a company computer, I would have to give myself a good talking to.

I vnc to my machine at home from work, to do a bit of mining, and change skills.

It's firewalled, but because I'm a sysadmin, and on-call I have a VPN link...

What VNC are you using??? I figured after using many different versions of VNC on both Windows and Linux that there was no way you'd get enough BW to push the EVE graphics down the pipe to a receiving machine......

If you have indeed managed to do this I'd love to know the details... Purely from a technical interest POV Very Happy

Our firewall block everything...
I tried to setup a standard phone connexion throught the internal modem, and I wall able to login, but as our PCs are crappy-intel-chipset based, and don't support T&L (!!!), I can only sit in a station and wait there, as exiting station means crash ^^!
So I gave up! I only play at home.

I have to add that playing throught a phone line wasn't so penalizing ...It seems jusst a bit "slower" than at home...

I'm using realvnc, 'recent-ish' version.

And you're right, the 'refresh' rate is pretty horrible. But the thing is, that VNC only refreshes around the cursor, so with a little practice, you can right click, select destinations, lock targets etc.

Wouldn't recommend going into combat, but it's not impossible - the overview is relatively easy to redraw and use...

Works well enough to mine, fly trade routes, change skills etc.

Tried with RDP, but eve doesn't seem to fire up properly in a terminal services session.

I used to plug laptop into network and play.

Quite funny really.... I would put an intense look of concentration on and peeps would think I was really busy and not disturb me.

Gave up in the end as I was getting sod all work done.

I play eve through a vnc connection, works fine with the latest enterprise edition of vnc. And a large pipe and I get a lot of fps, enought to actually do some npc hunting.

I turned off the auto stuff and use medium or low color settings. Works perfect.

I switch skilltrain every now and then, but that's it.

During lunch break I browse the forums pretty often.

We had a Firewall which totally blocked any acces to EVE. But having a 1MB Wireless ADSL line installed in my office for 'test' purposes has opened up unfettered access and works great.
However combat is out of the question too many interuptions

If you have wireless on your laptop browse for any wireless access points near to you, you'll be surprised how many have no encyrption and will let anyone access the internet and not have to go via a firewallLaughing

Working from home 2 days a week also helps.
