Ok a rather simple question.

What is the best command ship? Right now I an trained up in Min but am willing to branch out if there is a significant diffrence between them or are they generally all the same?

As far as what I am looking for is a a command/support ship for smallish gang roams not overly worryed about dps this will be 100% support, possibly ewar.

What you want is a claymore with the three skirmish ganglinks and a beefy tank.

If you want to do DPS get the sleipnir.

Depends on the type of gang as they have different boni on ganglinks (Damnation -> armored warfare, Claymore -> skirmish warfare etc...) - they all have their uses, except for the Eos.
So yeah - as most roaming gangs are largely comprised of winmatar, you're fine with a Claymore and skirmish ganglinks. Fitting Ewar on it is not a bright idea, as you'll need those meds for tank and it doesn't have any bonus on ewar anyway...

Whatever ship you use make sure you have damn good leadership skills. Your gonna ALWAYS be primaried by the enemy if your on grid with a command ship so make sure your giving your gang enough of a boost that they can keep you alive. don't forget about the warfare link implant. takes forever to use the implant but it gives a 50% bonus to your boosting. If you think that is not much then go to battle clinic and look up the crazy boosting loki.

If you already have the Minmatar CS, you already have the best options.

That doesn't mean the others wouldn't be worth training to provide more options, of course.

Almost all gangs see use in the Skirmish bonuses (regardless of gang size, tank type and range), whereas both Armor and Shield only apply to respective gang, and Information only apply to EW-centric gangs with some exception.

You should also look at the ships and how they adapt into the respective gangs. The Minmatar ships essentially cover any type of gang you'd intuitively fly them in (while the Claymore also can be shoehorned into armor, even if it's not the ideal option over Lokis). They are tanky enough to follow heavier shield gangs, fast enough to follow faster shield gangs and have the fitting to adapt different ranges. Compare that to the Vulture, and you will see that it has trouble adapting into faster and longer ranged gangs - despite it's range bonuses. The Damnation is better, but do suffer similar issues in some cases, where you can still use it, but in certain gangs there are liabilities (and it's often better replaced by a covert booster or a capital booster).

Among the tank-spank CS you'll see similar things in relation to the Sleipnir over the other, how the Sleipnir can adapt into every gang it's intuitively meant to fly with - while the other races' options suffer some adaption issues, without necessarily being bad ships.

Not to hijack this thread, but I don't think its worth making a new one.
Could anyone give a quick rundown of the different command ships and what they excel/are not great for? That would probably be better than trying to pick a "best."

As someone that's trained recently to accommodate CS and gang link
Bonuses;

Damnation - Armour links (-repper duration, -repper cap req, +armor resists)
Vulture- Shield links (-repper duration, -repper cap req, +shield resists)
Claymore- Skirmish links (-signature radius, +propulsion disruption range, +AB/MWD speed)
Eos- Infowarfare links (+EWAR strength, +EWAR optimal range, +Ship sensor strength)

IMHO, the greatest CS to benefit from
It's own bonuses whilst contributing to a gang is Thr Damnation. Run with dual plate, faction ENAM and slaves (with the 15% gang mindlin) you're looking at a BC with close to half a million EHP. Not bad if you're the FC and you want to stay on field!

Still, the Vulture and Claymore aren't bad from a practical standpoint, the Eos is sadly inherantly rubbish but it's repper bonus isn't too bad with an active tank gang. It all depends on your gang's ship loadout. A careful choice in compliment can seriously turn an engagement in your favour.

Damnation and claymore are the 2 most useful in most situations.

The gallente Eos is good in situations where u rely more on your falcons than your dmg dealers to win the fight. Which is funny since the gallente were supposed to be the dmg dealing race with everything else on second priority, instead they become caldari servants.

OFF TOPIC: Gallente is so broken they should just remove the whole race, reimburse us the SP and just be done with it. Now some can argue minmatar was this broken once, then again they had only 1 issue, projectiles and their ship bonus', while gallente has many seperate and interconnected issues.

But nvm me, if you want to boost your gang's EWAR Eos is the way to go, it will make your falcons cause double the tears.

The Claymore is an excellent booster for a smallish brawling/roaming gang. Tracking bonus makes it not too chablis at taking out targets, too, especially smaller targets. It's DPS is somewhere between a Recon and a HAC.

You want five T2 220 AC, 3 skirmish ganglinks, a skirmish mindlink in your head, DG Large Shield Booster, Medium Cap booster, 2 Invulns and a Warp Scrambler. Lows are DCU and Gyros.

I'd ditch the scrambler for more tank, seeing as everybody is going to be pounding on you.

Let your friends do the tackling (shouldn't be hard for em seeing as you give a bonus to it :P)
