Hehe, well if the super-rich players want to spend $10,000 for a gold internet spaceship, then I say let them. I'm pretty sure that as soon as someone spots a Gold Scorpion undocking from Jita, everyone and their grandmother will get their best gank-fitted ship just to be a part of the in-coming gank ****.

As I understand it, the Scorpion will have the stats of a Super..

If somebody buys a 10,000 dollar scorpion, it's stats are irrelevant, it will be fired at until it is dead and the cries of joy will be heard until somebody buys a 20,000 dollar one.

If it doesn't affect the playing field, then I don't care. Go ahead and sell $10,000 gold Scorpions, just so long as the only difference is that they're gold.

Yeh I think you can say 10,000 was put in there for the sake of media blowing things out of proportion AGAIN.

By the way.

180.00 = 12 Plex, 4.3 Bill ISK, 42,000 AUR, Jump Freighter, One year of Game Play if by plex
435.00 = 29 Plex, 10.8 Bill ISK, 105,000 AUR, Super Carrier
1,260.00 = 84 Plex, 30.2 Bill ISK, 294,000 AUR, Titan
10,000.00 = 667 Plex, 240 Bill ISK, 2.3 Mill AUR, ~ 8 Titans

I must admit, CCP using AUR for vanity items probably wasn't the smartest thing, or should I say there method to get AUR.
Correlations to RL cash were inevitable with this method.

its all more eve is real bull.. look at it CCP is taking the game away from the game and making it just a reflection of real life, you know, the reason ppl play games will be gone. You also realise it will be reinforced when the $10k scorpion arrives it will be a monocle, aka its gets blown up, no worry it comes with free replacement insurance.

CCP game designers are hedge fund managers, bankers and venture captialists, and the game they play is....

yeah... eve is dead and buried already

Yes, it IS okay for him to say it like that. For one, he's not CCP's PR man: he's the CSM chairman. And his position and statement reflects precisely a resounding majority of the EVE community: 'People want to spend their money on stupid sh*t, let them; as long as it doesn't break the game.'

Remember if said $10,000 gold Scorpion is created by magic from the NeX store (and even if it has the same stats as a vanilla Scorpion) then it is game breaking, if on the other hand you get a limited run BPC for your $$ then its not game breaking, just stooopid.

Edit:spelling

I played EVE because it was one game that didn't have idiots /emoting some crap and humping a lamp-post only dressed in their underwear - okay, there are people who also do this in real-lfe, particularly on a friday night. But, really, seeing some of that stuff makes you very concerned for the future of humanity... ;)

On a less despairing note if someone wants to spend an obscene amount of money on some irrelevant pink machariel or whatever then as long as it is still part of the economy, i.e. they need to build it using in-game materials, then it doesn't matter at all. It should not come with unlimited insurance or any other kind of nonsense, and be destructible/losable/capturable. As it is, all the truly awful vanity items so far seem to have come from nowhere, or fallen off the back of a Jovian Lorry...

While part of me laughs at the insanity which is Gylfason's unsatiable greed, introducing these $10,000 (Ishukone?) Scorpions is not entirely without consequence, gameplay wise, as it makes developers stop working on good free stuff for the masses. You already see this happening in the clothes department. Essentially they stopped designing new clothes; and the only new ones you can buy that are any good, are 'monocle' priced.

You don't care about clothes, I get that. But this is not limited to clothes, of course. In fact, it's a common issue, often discussed in the context of DLC: ''Why make anything for free, when you can call it a DLC and charge extra for it?' It's a very tempting trap for a company to fall into. Ere long CCP will stop developing anything worthwhile any further, unless we're willing to pony up some more cash. Like they did for Incarna garnments. And I already have a nagging suspicion that new Incarna content will also be found in the NeX store.

So, these vanity items are not as harmless as they seem. In fact, I'm calling their introduction a dangerous trend. Worst case, it will cause a full stagnation of EVE's regular, free content development, at the expensive of money-hungry suits having the devs work on items they can sell, sell, sell.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I think this AUR Vanity item pricing thing is getting absurd. I would not buy a 10,000 dollar/2.3 million AUR/240 Bill ISK. Item in game no matter how rich I was in game or out of game.

But if some fool wishes to then, it is cool with me as long as I can blow it up, scam it out of his hands into mine, or out right steal it.

I would not every buy one but I sure as hell would attempt to steal it.

The problem is that it looks like CCP is going the route of making vanity clothing items and vanity items in general indestructible. So I would guess with that line of doing things CCP will make it so you can't steal someones expensive Vanity Gold Plated Scorpion. It most certainly be blowup-able if flown in combat, but can I steal it?

If not then CCP is messing with the mechanics of the game, and would be introducing something in line of “soul bound” items. Which is contradictory to the way EVE is.

I'm curious, do you also have a problem with the standard clothing showing up on a fresh clone? Clothing has never been an issue when it comes to pod kills. Why should it become an issue now just because there are items that represent it? There is absolutely no benefit from wearing vanity clothes in combat, if they were destructible, they would simply not be purchased unless the were so cheap as to be worthless.

Destroyable vanity items will come when they let people customise their hulls. Where the bragging rights are visible for all to see.
