Several months ago I changed my homepage from yahoo.co.uk to dictionary.com, odd change but I found myself clicking on wikipedia / dictionary.com more than yahoo
Anyway as a result I no longer knew what was happening in RL, you see yahoo since 1997 (although they only started linking articles 6 or so years ago) was my homepage and my ONLY media source, though everything was biased much like everything else.
As for TV, well when WoW came out, a TV became a pointless chunk of metal, if I didnt have a Wii I probably would have thrown the TV in the bin, much like a microwave it serves no real purpose.
I have never bought or read a single newspaper / magazine and when it comes to conspiracies, unless there is proof like HARD proof it is branded as bull**** and put on the side, as of this moment I havent read a single conspiracy that has been accurate or made sense, Obama sneezing is linked to Earthquakes and Hilary Clinton smiling is led to war, it is almost like I have written these conspiracies.
Although I dont get along with my family they are obsessed with this whole illuminati crap, they also believe everything on FOX, they even think im part of the illuminati too (but thats a different story).
Anyway before I derail and go into fear, negativity, depression and how people are stupid, I would just like to say that OOPE is my ONLY media source and unless RL stuff is posted here I wont actually know about it (exception being work related stuff).
Personally I thank MMOs for this, as why focus on media when you can level, grind, spam :)

So who else has a 100% media free lifestyle and I mean 100% where all forms of media (including youtube conspiracies) are avoided? |

Confirming not being exposed to misery death and hysterical propoganda every day is good for mental health.

/raises hand.
I don't have a TV, not exactly for the reasons you have mentioned, but similar.
I don't follow current affairs, or the news, or anything of that nature.
Recently, someone I know started a conversation about someone who died. They said it was tragic etc, and to my amazement she could not understand that I had absolutely no idea who this person was. The person was on TV and was connected with some sort of comedy duo and was on some reality tv thing before that.
The only thing about this person I found interesting was the fact that I haven't watched TV in such a long time, that this person had been 'discovered', had some sort of notoriety, had a few tv series, been in the news, got married, had kids and then promptly died. It kinda made me realise just how much time had passed.
No, I do not remember what their name was. I was distracted by boobies.
BOT:
I am now pretty much in the position whereby I just observe the human race from a distance and make fun of it.
From my perspective, the whole planet is screwed.
I've made my peace with that and laugh and smile way more than I used to all those years ago.
Youtube is interesting, I like the stuff in there - it's funny. With the right software, has no geographical boundaries. I think that's a good thing.

I cant get over the fact your homepage was yahoo.co.uk...why???
Anyway I believe in filtering media definitely, but not 100%, even you dont live a 100% free media lifestyle if you get some hear/read some in OOPE. Its easy really, just dont watch TV and avoid idiotic websites. |

I couldn't go without my news and current affairs. If you want to avoid biased or inaccurate news just use that thing on top your shoulders and don't take it at face value and decide yourself.
I guess you live in the US but there is great newspaper in the UK called the Independent and it just reports facts, it has no political or cultural and class bias and never strays from fact unless it refers to someones opinion or statement and never prints opinion as a fact. The best bit about it is they have a small magazine sized version daily with a mix of the headlines and some entertainment and sports news with some tech and science articles and it only costs 20p.
There should be a paper like that in the US to I would imagine. |

lol. Last time I went to the States the only national newspaper was USA Today which today would probably have more about Brad Pitt's eyebrows in it than South Sudan. Trouble with the Independent model is the success of Fox News, which injects every story with opinion, not just giving select news to Americans but telling them what to make of the news too. Fox is easily the most profitable news outlet in the USA. |

When I first discovered the internet, it was yahoo.com, although back then no one knew what a troll was and I found it funny going on yahoo chat and yahoo games With yahoo answers and news articles yahoo remained a favourite, people were so easy to troll and everyone gave a reaction, sadly as time went by the "RIP my thoughts are with you and your family x" replies got depressing and the articles made no sense at all. You would literally have 5 articles on the same topic by different networks all contradicting each other yet people would believe everything that was written What I dont understand is why people crave 'the news', if you think about it, media NEVER informs the world what is going on, it mentions an event vaguely then states a biased opinion that is so obvious. I for one have never read a single article anywhere that isnt flooded with opinion and assumptions, the great thing about yahoo is linking to all articles proved this. E- I am also in the UK always have been to :) |

Isn't believing all "media" (Which is quite the broad term and is more than just news) is biased as naive as thinking none of it is? In which case you are giving into conspiracy theories... ( I never read a story that isn't biased...or all media is biased.)

Fox is successful because it appeals to the lowest common denominator, and there are a lot of people here that believe their bull****. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Fox were more profitable than the other news outlets. |

I wonder if there ever was a point when the media competed to give the most accurate and honest picture on everything NEWSWORTHY.. Maybe it was just a dream. |

I like staying current on world events via uncensored media outlets. If people were exposed to the true horrors that happen around them rather than the scrubbed and redacted versions they might have time to pause and think. When you understand information is free and seek it out from multiple vantage points the mountains of propaganda appear clear on the horizon.
It's nice to know im not alone in having no clue whatsoever when people mention celebrities.
