So, does anyone else like to indulge themselves with this oh-so-amazing sounding music?
Since I was around 14 I've been listening to .mod's from time to time. The music is really nice I think, melodic and chirpy and full of character. Somehow it seems that the simple waveforms produced from a tracker sounds a lot better than what you get from a modern SVT synthesizer in a way.. Sure they're great with other sounds, rich super saw pads and screaming leads etc. but when it comes to making "simple" sounds, the Amiga music is unbeaten with maybe the exception of an old analogue synth.. But the Amiga sound has something special about it. Is it low bit rate? Or is the secret hidden deep down inside of the Amiga sound chip?
Now, I never owned an Amiga but I've been told by a lot of people that the sound chip on the Amiga was something spectacular. Still to my ears, listening to these tunes on modplug player is sufficient for satisfaction.
Can someone please outline the difference in sound between an actual Amiga and Mod Plug Player? Also which artists do you like? I find my self amazed by maktone and other such cracktro/scene musicians...

I can only answer your first question, but yes, I like listening to chiptunes. You might enjoy kohina.com, they play chiptunes from games and the demo scene. The focus seems to be mostly on the Commodore 64, which has a really unique chip, but there's some Amiga on there. The Amiga impresses me with what people manage to get out of it. |
