So I finished ME2 the other day and it was pretty awesome. However, it seems like it is the ONLY modern sci fi rpg in existence.

Are there any others out there, or is the market really that flooded with fantasy rpg clones?

Anything in the near future that might give mass effect a run for it's money?

Mass effect reminds me so much of Star control 2.
yes the graphics are 8 bit and very old and look like crap, however, the game is surprisingly fun and really challenging.

Make sure to print out the star map before you start and keep a captains log.

If you can get past the graphics you might like the game.

Game features:

Modular ships with custom fittings.
Variety of alien races
a vast universe to explore, with solar systems planets, moons and more!
mineral collection!
secret planets
space sirens
melee mode and a storyline mode
Lots of side quests and exploration
Precursors, an ancient race that disappeared a long time ago but left artifacts of their advanced technology. (sound familiar?)
The Ur-Quan battle thralls, ultimate bad guys or are they?

If you're going to get star control 2, get the urquan masters version. It's free, works on modern systems, has been improved with things like voice acting and is better than the original version in pretty much all regards.

There aren't many scifi RPGs made in recent years for the PC. I can't think of any outside mass effect series and fallout 3. Most of my scifi RPGs are quite old and even then many of the good scifi ones are console games.

Don't forget KOTOR 2 as well, the restored content mod really makes it worth it.
