Atreus Venom Gallente New Eden Hitmen	Posted - 2011.06.27 04:10:00 - [1] http://www.slideshare.net/bcousins/paying-to-win <--- ur plan was more thought out and better than we all ever could have known... i kicked and yelled and spammed and protested i was in Jita too.. but after watching this video... i realize that is one part of the plan.. it is so depressing to know what we are all going to DO after we finish what we have to SAY... sad.. sad in deed... but if the video is correct ill soon accept the change. This is about RoI for CCPs investors, and enough time to complete DUST and WoD, where they see a larger playerbase and already have their MT strategy in process. What I can do is look at that presentation and see that less than 5% of people now pay for items in a FREE GAME. How does that mean charging in a subscription based game is a good idea? Work now, peace out. The thinking? They(companies that do game-affecting MT) make significantly more money now than they did. That's all it requires to understand. As to why CCP is doing so? There are a few discussions about that. The thought is that they're in a financial bind due to overextending themselves to develop 3 games at once while only one is profitable. They don't own a lot of the company anymore, and the investors are having a larger and larger say in what they do. I forget the exact number and I'll have to look it up, but Hilmar only has something like 2.5% stake in the company now. The investors say "jump" and he pretty much has to say "how high?". Microtransactions are huge news in the gaming industry, if you don't follow the industry publications. Most have decided that it is the future of gaming, because it's been proven over and over to work, where work="make the most money".

Again, EVE is has a much more complex economy compared to others, but it's certainly not the only one that has an marketplace where people can post things for sale, made by gathering resources and putting them together to craft an item or by killing an NPC that drops loot.
