Edited by: Sin Meng on 24/06/2011 10:13:11 Edited by: Sin Meng on 24/06/2011 09:56:22 When change is forced by fear or punishment, it is often hollow. It is also a prelude to relapse as soon as the punishment is gone or diminished. Right now the EVE community is rightfully punishing CCP for what may go down as their darkest day. I feel it necessary to remind us all why we are doing this, and stress the importance of balance in this process.
We are here because we love this game. And if we do not love what this game is now, we loved it at some point in the past, and long for that thing we loved to return. We aren't doing this out of some crusade-like hatred for the creators, because believe it or not they created this thing we all love or have loved.
I sincerely believe that our constant communal negativity and whining over the years has played a part in forging this wayward path CCP is currently on. Remember where this all began, remember the vision that started this. The job of maintaining and fostering that vision is as much OUR JOB as it is CCP's.
If this ship is to be turned around in a meaningful and lasting way it must be done through inspiration, not just through the rage and anger that dominates these forums.
So for the sake of providing some much needed balance, I ask this of the community:
Post your story. Tell CCP about what brought you to New Eden, and how you fell in love with it. For just a few moments, subside your just anger and frustration and tell us all where this passion comes from.
In an effort to see this actually done, the first 10 real stories posted will receive 100m. From the heart, preferably. I'd rather be broke and see some constructive talk here than rich and genuinely hopeless.

Signed. Great idea. Will post mine at some later point when I've got time. EDIT: Can't since I've just sold this toon. |

While i commend your efforts, they are unfortunatley usless in this situation
CCP will pretty much do what they want, regardless of the customers concerns, in time old tradition they will most likley follow the same doomed path that so many others have followed.

So wait a sec, past forum negativity caused CCP to try to overcharge players through aurum to fund their development of other projects? Say waht? |

This is about changing that exact behavior. I'm not asking anyone to be ok with what has happened, all I'm asking is for that tiny slice of inspiration that just might be what CCP needs to see where they SHOULD be heading, not just where they should not. |

canceled as well. 1 more account to cancel but ill do that so they both end together. There are lots of videogames. I dont need to keep giving money to one that in the future is going to be sucking on my wallet for basic gameplay additions AFTER taking my subscription money. |

I'm actually here to complain about how the game I love seems to have had faeces thrown on it. EDIT: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1536414 Wrote this before coming here. |

A letter to CCP
1. I get that you are running a business.
I understand that as a business you need to increase revenue and also that your stated mission is to bring together Eve online with Dust. I appreciate that you are looking at the cutting edge free to play and social networking games and seeing that their models, which include a healthy dose of Micro-Transactions, are embraced by the wider gaming population and have dramatically increased the stock of the Companies behind them. You and your backers want a piece of this. I get that the money you make will go back into eve online, as well as seeking to develop new games to spread your risk.
2. How do you take your customers with you?
You have a customer base that many businesses would die for but that have a tendency to resist change and you have reached a tipping point where they may hold back your further development. You need to explain better what you are trying to do, address the core fears in this thread and make sure that the silent players who you won’t hear from have a chance to have their say too. You have moved too quickly, too silently and as a result of the leaked internal document many perceive you to have behaved falsely.
3. What do you need to address?
i) Re-build trust. Publish a Covenant, Bill of Rights, memorandum of understanding (call it what you will) that gives your customers an insight of where you are going and what will be in and what will be out in the medium term. Specifically address MT for gain/MT for vanity/RMT/Botting/Graphic card issues with CQ. ii) Clarify direction and milestones of CQ. Some are excited about CQ as a pre-cursor to Walking In Stations and the extra “crafting” and social options it may introduce. Tell us how long we need to wait for it. iii) Re-assure existing loyalists. Be confident in explaining why you need to attract new players but re-assure those who joined for the realisation of “Brabants Elite” and the sandbox/player driven economy/Risk all PvP/metagaming evolution of the game to date.
4. Who needs to address us?
i) Bring out the big guns. CCP have become very big. You have become successful. You have grown and taken on lots of new guys; professionals at what they do. This is the moment for the founders to get in front of the cameras and re-connect with the player base. It’s not about vets hearing from old Devs, it’s about Hilmar delivering the answers and committing in a believable way.
5. What do we need to hear?
i) It’s simple really, as much realism as you like but passion for the game we love. The kind of passion that came across in Syndicate local back in 2004, when CCP TombB simply asked; “how are you finding the game?”

I will be honest with you, so far i have no grips with incarna as a whole. My pc performs well, i have had no technical issues what so ever, im not concerned over "overpriced" vanity items as i had no intention of buying them anyway. and as for the future of eve, my fingers remain crossed. After all its been stated time and time again that incarna will be deployed incrementally which im all for. The leaked newsletter? well tbh had it not actually been leaked then the community would be none the wiser and just focusing on performance issues im sure. however whos to say that it wasnt infact intended to be leaked in the first place. kinda like testing the water so to speak, either way CCP can then see the reactions of the community and adjust there plans accordingly, and hell even get some free press on the way. could possibly work well for them in the long run. time will tell |

Why did i start playing eve? BEcouse im succer for games that dont hold your hands. I did try WoW and found it to be too easy for my taste. Then my wife watched documentary from television about virtual worlds. There was segment about eveonline too... She says to mee, i think you might like this game they showed, go lookit up: eveonline...
So i went, downloaded it, activated trial and in two days i was hooked and subscribed... This was all about 2.5 years ago. Since then i have peaked at 7 active accounts (currently only 4).
Tryd mining, manufacturing, invention, running pos both lowsec and highsec. Lived in empire/lowsec/0.0 and loved every damn minute of it...
This is game that really lets you choose your own path. What you do and ho you become ingame. I have loved every expansion except this incarna thing. it works borky, lags and really dosent add anything but lag on my gameplay.
Theres been good ideas on fanfest about improving game mechanics: like treaties between 0.0 entities, etc... sadly none of those has merged in game reality.
I love this game, but ccp please listen to your player base. were not here becouse dollhouse in station, were here becouse what eve really is: cold, harsh and not holding your hands.
Eve truly is game that embraces those with brain, it gives us limitless oportunities to use our smart to mold our gameworld to our wants when ever it is to become a miner or to lead largest alliance ingame or something in between...
I know developing future game titles is expencive, but thats no reson no neglect eve and fixing whats broken. Or reason to make expansion that really delivers nothing we want. Or reason newer to retunr to those game features that were promised to be derived later.
Maybe you could be bold and ask 0.0 alliances how they think you could improve 0.0 soverinity mechanics and warfare over soverinity, crowd source brainstorming it...
And please please fix/reiterate scinece&industry interface, it takes 11 click to launch job remotely. When PI did that it was fixed in record time... Or maybe ccp could start providing paying customers a eveonline tagged mouse? So far had to fix my mouse twice now, lucky me all mouses nowdays seems to use same switches so i can just desolder/solder on in place. |

I Started playing eve around late 2008 at the recommendation of my cousin. Previously i had not been a fan of mmos mostly due to the lack of strategy or real risk involved in pvp. After Spending time watching a few larger fleet fights, and learning about the Universe i decided to try it out. One of the things that i found fascination at the time was how close nit the player base seemed to be; no doubt a result of the game being on one server. As i started to progress and learn more about the game i found that CCP had created a unique and very much so alive world in EVE online. Not long into my career in EVE i joined an alliance(which my main is still a member of to this day), and got my first taste of internet spaceships PVP. From that point i was hooked.
To this day Eve is the only game i pay for, or play with any regularity. Eve is a masterpiece of game design, thus why it pains me to see it being taken in a direction that ruins what makes it special to me. |

Sad to see this thread go drown in torches and pitchforks, too. But anyhow here's my little story:
I came to New Eden in search of an on going game in which I can fly around with spaceships. First I didn't know of the sandbox-like design EVE was building upon. And that’s why I was lost after having finished the tutorial agents. Nobody told me where to go. Nobody told me what to do. I could go out and do whatever I like!? No way... EVE being my first MMO I was overwhelmed by the possibilities once I realized what New Eden offered to me.
So I went to the belts mining in a Navitas... This was so boring that I thought about quitting EVE. Until a friendly corp came along to recruit me and show me how it is to play as a team (thank you Order Collective). They showed me how to fit ships, because I was throwing everything I looted onto my frigates. They showed me how to not get shot and which stargates to avoid (I had it coming http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=12631312 ). And some War Decs later I even had a kill on my board! Some weeks later I joined a 0.0 corp to see what all the fuzz is about. I joined NC forces and brought my ceptors in fleet to smell some PvP air. And guess what, after the war was lost we were back in empire again.
This was the time I realized that THIS is the sandbox. What would have happened if I died mining in the first place? I would have missed fail fleets getting welped by fail FCs. I would have missed frig gangs going out to **** vaga gangs. I would have missed laughing my ass of in TS about drunk people rambling about asteroids (you know who you are).
And all this is since February of 2011. I can't imagine what people playing this game since BETA must have seen and done.
And now you can go on with pitchforks and torches! :D |
