I don't mind CQ myself, and I think it will be beneficial for new players, but people who don't want it should be able to have the old hangar back. The new turrets are cool (though more and more I suspect that they rebuilt the turret slot system to allow more room for non-vanity MT). Vanity-only MT isn't a problem for 99% of the players who are upset.
What is upsetting is:
- The signs pointing to non-vanity MT.
- The signs pointing to the removal of content with the intention of selling it back to us.
- The lies regarding this topic.
- The unwillingness to communicate.
I cant believe i'm agreeing with a goon, what have you done ccp? |

First the development of the T3 frigate has to be paid for by Au purchases of the 5th sub-system for the T3 cruiser. Then you'll get your frigate with BC sized DPS and tank. |

It's more likely I'll change into a 12 month subscription and start another one because there is no way I'll take sides with the massive and almost fundamentalist douchebaggery that's going on. Let CCP employees have the weekend off like most of us, have a damage control meeting on Monday and release an official statement on Tuesday. Maybe then we can go back to having fun fun fun fun on Friday. |

Quite a weekend really. Protests throughout empire and the forums on fire and Eve Online getting hammered across the gaming world in the press and feedback these events are causing. The ironic thing is the more flame and passion this stuff creates the more I want to be part of this community and see it continue. I honestly believe there is no other gaming community out there that can rival Eve Online for talent, intelligence, drive and pure wild riotous energy and all that CCP need to do to get this potential back on side is to show that they have listened and are prepared to do what the community wants them to do in the combined interests we share. Its becoming abundantly clear that CCP senior management have been misinformed about the impact of MT on Eve Online for a variety of reasons from amateurish research, inappropriate anecdotal comparison, voodoo economical analysis and other bizzare flights of Icelandic "fearless" insanity. Okay, everyone makes mistakes. But I hope the next couple of days into the coming week will be used by CCP to take stock of what they currently have and make some criticial decisions about their future as a company offering a massively multiplayer gaming environment. There is a tremendous user-base here that can work miracles in selling the benefits of eve online to a wider audience if they are inspired by the vision that CCP are offering for the future. And its a critical "if" - at the moment the reason the protests are so furious and angry is that I think everyone "gets" that we are standing at a crossroads here, down one road is the slog to MT mediocrity while another sees us continuing up the trail the founders of Eve blazed all those years ago to a game universe of unparelleled complexity and potential for us to explore and fight over. Some players "the anti-protesters" and some CCP employees seem genuinely perplexed at the strength of passion and feeling against MT at this point and I believe they also need to take a moment to consider Eve in the wider perspective and understand why a universe that has delivered so much by being uncompromisingly player-driven on all levels from economy to conflict, could be so badly impacted now by introducing products and services (vanity or not) that bypass player production and simply appear in the NeX store delivered by the magic credit card fairies. The strength of the protests is measured by the degree to which people care. This is a hugely good thing for CCP if they can learn the lessons of this fiasco and start behaving with a little more respect for our mutual relationship here. I believe in the CSM project. I believed in its original purpose post t20 scandal - I believed in its role as a focus group and communication avenue to keep CCP in touch and responding appropriately to the player base. I ran for the first CSM myself and in my role there developed a lot more respect and understanding of CCP as a company. I really felt back then that Hilmar was listening to the community and wanted to build the kind of relationship that other games companies can only dream of with their players. But this summer. Its been a fiasco. CCP didn't consult honestly with the CSM and as a result failed to take any feedback from the community and pressed ahead with this wild MT scheme on a wing and prayer in some hastily-assembled NeX contraption that looks just like one of those redbull flying machines that get pushed off the end of piers. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.Thing is. Those fiascos can be fun. Sure the "flying machine" made of gaffa tape and paper mache falls apart when it hits the water and everyone gets soaked - but the crew swims to shore and falls about laughing and gets drunk. So the real question here is CCP going to do this with a cheeky smile or struggle back to the pier and keep building MT cows to crash into the fiasco lake? |

Some of you who have been around for a while may remember me. I was the original community manager for EVE. These days, I oversee the PR and Community teams. While most of what I do happens behind the curtains, I am still aware of what’s going on front and center. I would be lying if I said that what’s happening now didn’t make me sad, but I’m not here to ask for your sympathy. To be perfectly honest, I’m here to buy time while we try to sort things out. No sense in lying about it so I'll call a spade a spade.
It’s clear that many of you are <understatement alert> angry </alert>. There’s a lot happening, things are changing quickly and we haven’t been as forthcoming as you were used to in the past. I’m willing to step out front and take a lot of heat for that since I was the one who made the decision to hold off on responding for a while to see if things cooled down once the new wore off. I was wrong to do that and I apologize. We should have said something much sooner. We should have done more to address your concerns and be forthcoming, even if we weren’t going to be able to immediately give you all of the answers you were looking for or the answer your questions in ways that will instantly turn those frowns upside down. To be even more candid, I cannot answer all of your questions, either, but I am working with the people who can to start getting those answers for you. Again, I know we’re doing this past the expiration date of your patience but I hope you’ll bear with me. I know that, with very few exceptions, most of you don’t know me from Adam. I haven’t earned your trust or respect; therefore I have no right to ask anything of you – but I am going to try, anyway. Can I please count on at least some of you to help bring the pitchforks and torches down a few notches?
Like I said, I won’t be able to answer all of your questions tonight, but I promise we’ll start getting some info out tomorrow. As I see it, the chief complaint is regarding the high cost of goods in the Noble Market. Second, many people are unhappy about the Captain’s Quarters. Third, there are some performance issues with Incarna. I would appreciate it if you would confirm my observations or tell me what I’m missing, but I do ask that you do it in a productive way. I will remove posts without prejudice if they are counterproductive to the conversation I hope to have with you.
If you’ve read this much, thanks for staying with me. If you have something to say, I’d like very much to hear it.
Humbly yours, ~P~

Originally by: Dierdra Vaal Edited by: Dierdra Vaal on 24/06/2011 12:22:35 I feel sad that this has happened - and sad that I need to write this post (not just because it'll probably get buried under 9000 other posts). However, I hope this will be read because I am trying to make a reasonable argument here - not a raging flame post.
As a recurring member of the CSM, whose duty it is to represent the players (something I took very seriously), I went to CCP to discuss the issue of microtransactions. In fact, this topic was discussed several times on CSM summits (both in October and in December). We were assured that microtransactions would be vanity items only.
I was told, to my face, that CCP would not sell anything in their virtual goods store that would not be a vanity item (vanity items being useless fluff, not giving any benefits). Now I read in your newsletter that one of your main game designers is openly argueing to break this promise. I take that as a personal insult and a clear sign of disrespect towards the Eve community as a whole. Shame on you for even considering to break your word!
I'm still subscribed, the but moment CCP will offer anything other than vanity items for PLEX/AURUM/etc is the moment I will cancel my accounts. In going for the 'hobbyist gamer' (casual gamers, even though eve isn't that casual gamer friendly), you seem to have forgotten a large part of your player base. The part that has shaped Eve over the years: the hardcore gamers. We don't come here as a hobby to experience an ultimate sci-fi simulator. We pay a subscription for an all-access pass to this crazy dystopian universe, where what you do, what you become and what you achieve comes down only to your skills, dedication and your effort. And because of that, our actions are meaningful.
By extending the virtual goods sales beyond vanity items you directly attack one of the things that seperates Eve from all the other MMOs out there: that actions are meaningful. If I can just buy faction standing, what meaning is there in doing missions for faction standings? What meaning is there in finally achieving 6.0 standing (for POSs) or 9.0 standing (for COSMOS missions)? And from what I read, that's not even the end of it!
Some people might enjoy spending more money 'on their hobby' like it was golf (an analogy that is inherently flawed, which I'll explain below), but due to the dystopian, merciless nature of Eve you've bred a community that exists for a large part out of hardcore players. People who see Eve as a serious business proving ground - not as a lighthearted diversion. These are the people who have allowed you to get to where you are today. These are the people who stuck by you over the past 8 years - even if they do call themselves "bittervets". To turn your back on those people is at best poor form, and at worst commercial suicide. Because Star Wars Galaxies has shown you can't just trade in one group of customers for another.
Why golf is not the same as eve Specifically, buying golfclubs isn't the same as buying items in Eve. The equivalent would be if you could pay $100 to get one swing/strike/whatever it's called removed from your record. Instead of making a hole in 5, you could pay $400 and get it listed as a hole in one! Suddenly, your golf stats won't depend on how good you are, but simply on how much money you're willing to spend. Try to suggest that to golfers and see how they like it.
In Eve, just flying a spaceship isn't all there is to the gameplay. The effort to GET that spaceship is part of the game. The fact that it isn't easy to obtain certain things, achieve certain things or do certain things is exactly what makes these things meaningful. Meaningful to me AND to others, who can see what I have achieved. And now some game designer would like to take that away? Bad move CCP.
*Thumbs up*

CCP already answered your question. - In the skype chat, they said they will expand the MT store on player demand, leaving them every option open. - In the internal document, they said they want non-vanity MT items. - 2 days and they didn´t reply on the forums. It´s pretty clear what the answer is.

IMO CCP should just remove AUR bull**** and never come back to it, end of story. this isn't something to discuss any longer. player ultimatum go
and give us back the old hangar and make CQ & next station walking stuff COMPLETELY optional you wana play dolls you have other games for that, this always been internet spaceships online and should stay this way we just have too small population. imagine if Blizz introduces something like p2w stuff to their 10kk subscribers and then behaves like CCP does - you'll have IRL riots going on |
