Our Epic Games web sites and forums were recently hacked. After some downtime, they're back up and running now.
The hackers may have obtained the email addresses and encrypted passwords of forum users. Plaintext passwords weren't revealed, but it's possible that those passwords could be obtained by a brute-force attack on the encrypted passwords. Therefore, we have reset all passwords. The Unreal Developer Network (UDN) hasn't been compromised. Thankfully, none of our web sites ask for, or store, credit card information or other financial data.

Did hackers just get together and share one trick that works for everything? Or does the news just report this more now? I honestly wonder if the numbers are up or what.
People need to invest more into security. That or tell their dumbass employees to stop opening stupid **** on the internet. |

Possible I suppose, though I hope not. The idea behind Anonymous is that it is an amorphous decentralized group that attempts to direct its efforts against perceived injustices. I suppose someone could pose as Anonymous, or attempt to sway the group conscience to go after this or that. But it would hurt its quasi dark hero status. |
