Good afternoon, fine ladies and gentlemen of the Eve Forums, If all goes to plan, I'll be living in Iceland from august until right before Christmas this year to study at Reykjavik University. Do any of the Icelanders or people who've been or lived there have an idea about the cultural or habitual differences between Iceland and the Netherlands? Or does anyone have suggestions about cool things to do there? (For a 20 year old student - and no, I'll most likely won't be visiting the Phallic museum. ) Thank you in advance for your replies and contributions, Tapdancing Batman |

I don't have any serious ideas (nor have I ever been to Iceland), but the first two thoughts that came to mind:
1. Drink. 2. Try not to freeze your ****s off. |

You can take long relaxing walks on the harbour piers smelling all the fish/money that is being brought in. Eat the tastiest hot dog ever at Bćjarins Bestu Pylsur next to the harbour. Then you can go to BSÍ and eat scorched sheeps heads.
Thats it pretty much.
Yea and you an jog on the streets in the early morning when there is still too much snow on the sidewalks, and eat cakes afterwards.

Take some decent hiking boots. Ones that are waterproof. Go exploring in the striking volcanic wilderness. |

Practical things: Don't ever shop outside of Krónan or Bónus if you can help it. The 24 hour convenience stores are handy but too expensive.
Contrary to common belief, you can actually ride a bike most of the year. Save on gas and bus money by getting a second hand bike. Learn to cycle uphill though and against the never ending wind (both ways). Also, ride on the sidewalk.
If you like drinking then you are going to be going through a lot of bars until you find one with a selection you like. If you are not very fond of light lagers then you are probably not in luck.
That's it, for now. |
