I wanted to create a thread for those of us who are unable to financially afford upgrading their computers, or simply do not want to upgrade their computers just yet for the Incarna Expansion coming up.

My hope is that other resources can be provided as far as where to get computer parts. Idea's as to other hobbies to get into until the upgraded computer is available for us other folks that are unable to utilize the advanced features of Incarna and such, just yet.

Also, I just wanted to warn people that some of you will not be able to play. Check now and make long-term changes if necessary if you're one of those people with older computer's.

Play World Of Warcraft if you want a six year old graphics engine that does not force PC gamers to upgrade their hardware.

Although I have seen the first person captains quarters on singularity test server and it looks very pretty. But It is irksome there is a 'LOADING' message when you dock and your PC churns for several seconds to load the graphics environment for captains quarters.

CCP will take some flak for doing captains quarters as it does advance any really new functionality. But hopefully soon there will be fps player interaction in station bars or something.

I need an excuse to build a new system and get rid of this one that my ex-wife helped me build back in 2006.

It's about 7 years old, and has been upgraded to the max hardware capabilities.

OS: Windows® XP Service Pack 2 / Vista / 7
CPU: Intel Pentium® or AMD @ 1,5 Ghz or greater which supports SSE2
RAM: XP (SP2) - 1 GB / Vista - 1.5 GB
Video: 64 MB Shader Model 2.0 Graphics cards such as GeForce FX (5 series) class card or higher, ATi 9500, x300 series or higher and Similar chips from other manufacturers

Don't ask me how to check it. I only found out recently by downloading the Duality Client itself to check.

It's a money thing, and I'm not about to let some game "force" me to upgrade my hardware. The game will wait until I'm good and ready to buy the necessary stuffs.

Thank you very much.

That is very weird. Current client requires Shader Model 3:
Video: Shader Model 3.0 supported Graphics cards

If Incarna only needs Shader Model 2, then I am fine.

You may want to double-check. I got it off of a different website than Eve.

CCP discontinued support for SM2. FYI

While it is entirely possible that Incarna and Turret and Weapon effects still work on a SM2 graphics card (neither I or CCP tested it) it may also create a lot of problems on your graphic cards and it is possible that EVE will stop working on your PC.

If you are still using a SM2 card, then there is now the time to upgrade.

FYI SM3 gfx cards are also something of olde, as in cards like ATI's X1600 and above.

Don't know if this is a valid statement. Found it on support.eveonline.com. Good luck.

LOL AT YOU!

Very Happy

No seriously, a sm3 card is not that pricey. NewEgg, Tigerdirect, sell pieces for cheapz. Get a decent sm3 card, they all say SM3 on the package.

I am here to report that my GeForce 8400 with 128 MB of memory, that I got from eBay for 15 dollars delivered to my door, is doing just fine.

I turned all the graphics stuff to low or off, but I probably could run them on low or medium.

So. Grab el chepo 8xxx series card if you need one.

If you are say a student and have an old PC with an AGP slot the Nvidia Geforce 6600GT is the lowest spec nvidia card that does SM3.

I got my ebay SM3 AGP Geforce 6600GT 128MB today and plugged it into the dual Xeon 2.4ghz workstation. With high settings at 1024x768 captains quarters is 6fps and only my avatars crop of hair is visible. With lowest settings at 1024x768 CQ is 11 fps. Though in space I get 45 fps out of station with not much going on. Avatar creation is very slow like 4 seconds per frame.

Well the graphics card was £20 and it is fit for purpose of allowing my workstation pc to do eve mining.
