I dunno why everyone is blowing up so hardcore but I was literally jumping up and down when I heard Dust514 was for the PS3. I was hoping it would be cross platform but I'm thrilled that it's coming out at all. Spring 2012? That's so much sooner then I had ever expected and I'm extremely happy.

Maybe I'm just one of the few that owns a PS3, Xbox, Gaming computer, and even that little black box that Nintendo calls a console. But I understand completely why this is a PS3 exclusive, this is going to be an FPS on a much larger scale than your Modern Warfares. I question whether or not the XBox can even handle a game with more then 24 people on screen, and this was discussed in detail back when MAG came out and showed the power of the PS3. If this game stands a chance of being on one server with individual conflicts on any particular planet it has to be on the PS3 (or a computer) to allow as many people as possible to fight on one screen.

I can't help it either. the fact that it will have Vita support kinda sold it for me too.

But I'm still on the line about getting a 3ds or Vita... they haven't said the price yet....

It can have all the power it wants, it still only has a 512 MB GPU, same as the 360.

Yeah, putting it on their little PSVITA was a bit of a surprise, and I have no idea if the "MOVE" hardware is worth a damn. It does look interesting though.

The Wii is slowly winning me over to the idea of that type of controller.

Dust 514 being on the Xbox 360 I truly don't think was a logical option. The scale of Dust 514 multiplayer just couldn't be supported on the xbox 360(16 player max online play). However I do wish they put Dust 514 on the PC instead, but if they decided for monetary reasons to go with a console to open themselves to a new market, the ps3 was definitely the better choice of the two.

This is EVE, no matter what they decided, there'd be a huge number of whiners venting their spleens on the forums.

A lot of people bash Sony and how they can't be trusted and all.

I don't know about them, but I don't see Microsoft as trustworthy either.

You can worship Microsoft as much as you want, but they're still gonna charge you money or microsoft points to get new content from DUST expansions.

I'm not really a console person as all I have is a PS2 and a Wii.

I do see the capabilities of Dust to be superior on the PS3 than the 360.

every single demo showed xbox controllers until now.. if they came out and said PS exclusive 3 years ago it wouldn't be so bad.
it was even talked about in OXM..

I find it odd that it would be on PS3 when Xbox Live service is the best of the 3 major platforms in terms of playing with friends.

Anyway, people with PS3's will be happy. People with Xbox's will be unhappy. Why cut off so many players? I don't know, only CCP could tell you. I'd assume they believe it will in some way be more profitable.

Because your terribad Ox Box cannot handle DUST gameplay.

I've just heard from my CCP insider why they chose the PS3.

Basically, they only need 1 cpu for the game, the rest of the processing power will go into a new cluster which will power eve, which will remove all lag.

Scouts honour!

That and if CCP went with the 360, they would be bankrupt in the first week due to all the patches that would be released fixing up their code.

When it was speculated to be a PS3 exclusive, i wanted to believe so hard that it was all just blowing smoke.

But the more I think of it, the more i feel i can accept it.

I think the PS3 and the Sony psn are better than Microsoft. (security breach excluded) I am sure the security problems will be fixed.
Xbox still has the best games tho...

Quote:
“When we set out to build a true persistent shooter for consoles, it was evident that Sony's dedication to providing a flexible and MMO-friendly platform --alongside a robust virtual goods business model-- made the PlayStation 3 the natural home for DUST 514," said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. "CCP's ambition is to bring a level of truly meaningful, persistent gameplay to the PlayStation 3 never before seen."

That's from CCP's press release. The PS3 has a much friendlier business model towards games of this type. Valve went through this same argument with Microsoft with Portal 2 and that's why they offer free updates to Portal 2 through the PS3 and not the xbox; not because Valve doesn't want to give free updates to xbox users, but because Microsoft does not allow free DLC. Sony's stance on things like this must have been very important to CCP because it's how CCP operates.

DUST 514 will be continually developed and improved upon over time and there will always be new features and aspects to DUST just around the corner. Oh, and all expansion packs will always be free.

I support the decision for PS3 as well. It has more powerful hardware, and the fact its online gaming service is free, as oppose to paying for xbox live gold. I don't play online regularly, so I can't justify paying the monthly free for xbox live. And the fact you have to have live gold to use netflix on your xbox is just Microsoft punching you in the wallet.

It's funny there is one thread bashing the exclusivity and this one supporting it. At least it's better than a flame war.
