If it's PS3 exclusive CCP is not thinking straight.
They were only hacked the one time. They merely became aware of more than the obvious damage. |

They've said that Dust can live without EVE and vice versa, so who knows. But more to the point: you don't know, and yet you make these claims about what it will be and what the consequences of this design (that you've made up) will be… |

In EVE, just lose time and ISK and EVE got rid of station ping pong a long time ago. In planetside, you log off for the night and come back and it's back as it was before. As for my 'claims', apart from my ascertations about it being weaker than BF3 and being something of a Halo/Modern Warfare hybrid, which, is based on screenshots and video already released. The rest of my 'claims' are mostly accompanied by, I think, probably, maybe and might not be (like in the sentence you quoted me in). I don't know for sure on most of these things. On the counterpoint, you don't know either, so you can't refute my claims. |

Yes, well… that goes without saying. Originally by: Dez Affinity In EVE, just lose time and ISK and EVE got rid of station ping pong a long time ago. In planetside, you log off for the night and come back and it's back as it was before.
Yes, but the same thing could very well happen in EVE: nothing can't be undone within a day or so. And the repercussions in PS could be pretty severe (as in: everyone got tired of losing and now you're stuck in sanc with no-where to go). Quote: On the counterpoint, you don't know either, so you can't refute my claims.
No, but that's kind of the point: from what I've seen and heard, it looks far more like the PS-kind of obfuscated capture-the-flag than the Halo/BF-kind of blatantly obvious capture the flag… and tied to a persistent world (much like the former, and completely unlike the latter). So I'm quietly wondering how much of this dismissal of Dust as yet another BF/CoD/Halo/Whatever-clone is due to not being familiar with how MMOFPSes like PS have worked… |

You are wrong. Look at news read a little; more than once. They were hacked twice separately. The first time their service was down for a month. Sony sucks. |

Originally by: Albetta So the countdown timer on the dust website ends at 7 P.M. U.S. central time on the 6th. That is the exact time as the sony press conference at E3. This is probably not a coincidence. PC definitely won't get dust, and now Xbox probably won't be getting it either. I know most of you are hardcore PC gamers and don't really give a damn anyways, which is fine, and that I may be guilty of counting chickens before they hatch, but as it stands right now, i'm more than I little disappointed. I was kind hoping for an Xbox release.
I suppose that I will still have to wait and see, as I have 2 days and 4 hours left anyways.
Um, no, we DO give a damn, because it's not going to be on PC! Not sure I would have really played it much, but I would have liked to try it out at least a few times. Here's to hoping Incarna will make up a bit for the lack of BiS (Barbie In Space) content in EVE. |

I was thinking Dust was going to be a Flash-based browser game.
Seriously, when did CCP announce "ambulation?" How long did it take to deliver a sliver of the content they promised waaaay back then?
So, they're going to announce something Monday. Big whoop. Likely won't deliver until your grandkids are playing.

The reason this would be likely to be a PS3 exclusive is that MS is still extremely restrictive on what content gets on XBL, how it gets patched, how large the patches/updates are, how frequent they are, and forces developers to charge for them. Remember that Portal 2 ended up on the PS3 as the primary console because Valve found MS impossible to work with.
Now look back at this last week... CCP launched 1.6 and then patched it *3 times* in the following days. That would never fly with Microsoft.
And for people citing the FF XI example. Square has come out and said they would never make do that again with the current restrictions MS has in place. |

oh hi look at me I don't know how logn it takes to make a game! 1.5 years ago they showed dust514 in action and played it on stage. They told everyone that it had in been in production for 3 years so far and they had just gotten to pre-pre alpha. anotehr year or so, so a total of 4 years is about how long it takes. Star wars battlefield took 4 years to make, so did call of duty3. It' normal turnaround for game development. |

That wasn't all that strange, what with being the spiritual successor to Marathon and with Bungie's (then) long-standing love for the Apple platforms. It was also kind of fun how history repeated itself for the launch of the 360, when the pre-launch demos were run on a bunch of G4 Macs (iirc) ducttaped together. |

I got the impression it was down to money - Microsoft wanting too much and/or CCP not willing to give up enough of the subs. |

They have been hacked at least three times that we know of and there is a report that its been done again in the news today. You'd have to be a numpty to sign up to psn now. |

Define "they"… Sony, yes. PSN, no. Afaik, so far, the tally is PSN — hacked once, exploited once; the Station website, hacked once; and Sony Pictures hacked once (and the PSN exploit was actually more of a Station exploit, but aimed at PSN accounts). So Val'Dore is still technically correct. |

So what was predicted to be a fail at launch game. Is now going to be even worse since it might be released on only 1 console. No wonder CCP is trying to push micro transactions in Eve, they need to recoup that production cost somehow. |

Originally by: Val'Dore Here's a thought, YOU read the news a little; more than once. They were hacked once. The first time their service was not down at all, because they did not realize the extent of the problem. The 15 day offlining of Sony's web services was due to the discovery of major network security deficiencies after the fact.
No they were in fact compromised multiple times with multiple methods : First one (that we know of) was PSN/SOE. Note that a second attack occurred when Sony attempted to online the PSN again simply because Sony don't have the first idea of how to store user data or how to provide password recovery. The second attack was unrelated to the first in technical terms; Second one was Sony Music Japan - courtesy of LulzSec, local press reported "tens of thousands of accounts compromised". It should be noted that multiple Sony Music sites around the world were compromised over a period of weeks; Third one was Sony Ericsson via an SQL injection attack in Canada (2000 accounts compromised); Fourth one was Sony Pictures courtesy of LulzSec - method was NOT the same as used to compromise Sony Music sites. Anyone who trusts Sony in any way is a moron. Simple as. |
