I would say a Tower with a back-up battery and a case made out of wood, or maybe gutting out a Mac All-in-One and replacing the hardware with better, more modern hardware.

Or perhaps even a computer powered by a powerful Gasoline Engine and Car Battery.

What is the strangest computer you ever wanted to build?

During my uni years, I once saw an operating PC (obviously, one that was already obsolete) with each separate piece of it stuck with nails to a wall, and the connections between components made with wires going from pin to pin.

This has got to be fairly high on the list.

Now an inflatable computer would be cool. Light wieght, easy to carry, set it up in seconds. I know they already have laptops, but I want to see Desktops become the most commonly used computers again. Laptops require batteries, they are weak, and they don't have alot of room for additional hardware.

I wanted to integrate whole computers into bricks which can connect to each other - and then build a supercomputer house of those bricks... living in your own data center :) - damn .. now the industry can steal my idea Neutral

At the moment I am looking into using a car radiator to expand on a water cooling kit I was given but have not used yet. This is very inspiring: Cool water cooling - car radiator extreme

Always wanted a PC that worked/looked like Orac...

Orac (Blakes 7)

With the advent of perspex cases and luminous water-cooling I think I may build a facsimile soon.

Hexacore CPU, loads of ram (with watercooling block), watercooled graphics card (or 2), and chipset obviously. Maybe a windowed HDD with LED lighting, as well as a string of lights inside of course.

Years ago I had a P4 system in a perspex case. Problem was that it got debris and dust in quickly. And moths liked the illuminated blue fans.

I've always wanted to build a caseless PC where all the components are hanging from the ceiling, using fishing wire or thin steel wire. Dust would be a problem, though.

It's called a server.
===

I always wanted to put a PC inside a large model of a star destroyer, and have a projector aimed out of the middle engine instead of using a monitor.

THe other thing I would like to do is put a battery pack inside my PC in lieu of a UPS. it would be much more efficient since I would have to suffer a efficiency loss three times (a rectifyier in the UPS, then an inverter, then the rectifiers in the computer power supply)

actually it was intended to be a desktop computer.

I crashed into a wall when they told me "well isn't it nice, but you'll need WinNT to make it work."

Ah, right. I totally forgot Consumer Windows couldn't utilize multiple processors until it was merged with the NT code base under Windows XP. They have made dual chip boards in the standard form factors for ages, though.

yes but back in the day what face would you make if a 16 year old boy asked you to check how much is a dual cpu computer?Laughing

This one isn't a computer, but rather the most important computer output device; The Monitor

I want to make a monitor that surpasses the 120Hz Monitors we have now and goes up to 2.5Ghz, which means a maximum FPS of approximately 2.5 Billion. Screw Hertz! Input Deivces are using Gigahertz, CPUs are using Gigahertz, GPUs are using Gigahertz, Audiocards are using Gigahertz, Network Systems are using Gigahertz, RAM uses Gigahertz, so why not output devices? Speakers are actually ahead of monitors, because a speaker goes into Kilohertz. But displays only go into Hertz. If you could make a Gigaheertz Monitor with built-in Gigahertz Speakers, that would be epic.

I think you're right.
On one hand, I am tempted to explain to him just how wrong he is and why - because, oh boy, is he wrong or what ? Twisted Evil

The news here being that your crappy human eyes could not possibly even hope to perceive any objective difference anywhere near the kilohertz range, let alone megahertz or gigahertz.
Also, if you want to put it this way, you are already getting 0.124 gigapixel/second from a FullHD screen at 60 Hz.

Ever so slightly beyond the limits, yes, maybe.
Orders of magnitude beyond the limits... both pointless and wasteful.
