Instead of rehashing what I expect is a heavily asked question about the best way to fit a Tengu for l4 & l5 mission running (which I am sure I can pull off of Battleclinic);

Is there a really good definitive guide to the Tengu somewhere?

I really want to understand each of the subsystems and how they work together.

Also, can subsystems be swapped/reused - or are they like rigging and have to be destroyed?

I really appreciate any direction.

For your first question: Warp into the mission with T1/Precision missiles loaded. Turn on all your mods and orbit something static like a wreck, the beacon, acceleration gate, or a jet can and kill all the frigates with your T1/Precision ammo.

Reload to T1/Fury ammo and work your way up from the frigates, while still orbiting the static object. Large ships will not pose a threat to you because of your small sig radius and how fast you're going, your shields will rarely drop below 99%.

The only things that really pose a danger to you are webbing and possibly target painting, which is why you kill the frigates first. Aside from that the Tengu is a breeze and cuts through L4 missions like butter.

For your second question, subs can be swapped and reused at will. You need to have all 5 on the ship at the same time or you can't undock, they are not destroyed like rigs.

Dunno about definitive guide, but the foremost thing to know about the Tengu, is that it is built around the concept of speed-tanking and shield boosting. So, in a typical PvE environment, you'll fit the Fuel Catalyst and an afterburner. With its small sig (150m) and a decent AB, you're as good as invulnerable.

Since you have no drones (at least, not in a viable setup), you'll want T1/faction ammo with Rigor rigs (and/or flares). And the reason you can't have a viable drone boat is the Rifling Launcher Pattern, which goes at the expense of the Accelerated Ejection Bay. And the latter you really need, as you only have max 6 launchers.

So, to give you the basic idea:

* Defensive Subsystems: Amplification Node, for extra shield boost

* Propulsion Subsystems: Fuel Catalyst, for extra AB boost

* Offensive Subsystems: Accelerated Ejection Bay, for assorted missile boosts (rate of fire + speed + kinetic bonus)

* Eletronic Subsystems: Dissolution Sequencer, for extra sensor strength (makes you less vulnerable to ECM!) and extra target range

* Enginieering Subsystem: Augmented Capacitor Resevoir/Capacitor Regeneration Matrix

Naturally other combos are possible, but the above will gave you a basic idea of what makes for a strong Tengu setup, using many of its bonuses to the max.

THanks all for the info.

Ranka, your information is good to know. That was how, from what I had researched, I was planning on setting it up. The detail you provided helps me better understand.

I appreciate the help.

Just a comment, you don't want the Matrix engineering subsystem. It only allows for maximum 5 launchers, whereas the Resevoir subsystem allows for 6 (together with the Power Core subsystem, but you shouldn't need the extra power for HMLs).
