Hi, I'm posting with an alt because I don't want to embarrass my corp and my CEO.
Recently we logged in to find our high sec POS tower just ....gone. The CEO is the only one with the roles to unanchor and remove the POS. He got no kill mail for the POS.

Now we are at war, and we did get warning mails that the modules were under attack.
The POS was not out of fuel, had stront in it that night (I saw it), did not go into reinforced mode. The war target did attack the modules. All the modules and everything are just gone, nothing is left, again in High Sec. I could see the fuel and the strong but I could not access it.

You might say well the CEO took it. Well, he didn't because he was upset and I offered to pay for all the parts and put up a new POS and he said, no, until we find out what happened we shouldn't put up a new POS. I believe him. It doesn't make sense he'd steal his own POS that he bought himself for the corp. Everything in it was his. It was a high sec pos, I didn't use it for anything myself.

So my question is has anyone else had a high sec pos just disappear? A few times in the past after down time I've seen POS's without their bubble up, but you still can't unanchor the POS tower. Again in this corp, I checked, only the CEO had "config starbase" roles.

Anyone have any helpful ideas what could have happened? Is there some new thing going on with high sec pos's? It was petitioned, didn't help. Thanks

Sounds like either

1) Your CEO ****ed up the roles and someone yanked it

2) Some sort of incredibly rare bug, petition.

What did the petition say?

You can see everyone's roles in the corp, and only one person the CEO had "Config Starbase Equipment". Is there another role that allows you to unanchor a POS tower?

Petition just said nothing they can do. If there is something going on it usually takes them a while to realize it and then they still don't address it in petitions, in my limited experience with these things.

NoScream, why would you ask? I'm sure if there is a way to remove a high sec pos tower without blowing it up, a lot of people would like to know how which could be a real "game ruiner" for all of us.

I'd like to know how so I can protect my assets from such an "event".

oh and the night before the war target ceo said, "You all have a huge surprise in store for you after down time".

Makes you wonder.

Did they say there was nothing they could do about it, or that there was an issue that they won't resolve? It could very well be that you are the victim of the bug, but that CCP can't/won't reimburse you. If another player benefitted from your loss (i.e. scooped items out of a wreck you lost due to a bug) they will not reimburse those items.

I'm not worried about reimbursement so much as worried how the POS tower went POOF without a kill mail or apparently anyone unanchoring it. This would be a first in my experience.

Shot in the dark here, how easy is it to guess the CEO's password? Perhaps they did un-anchor it, if you take my meaning.

I'd wager your CEO stole your tower.

well no one else is speaking up so it must just be us, and therefor it's probably not a game mechanic issue.

It sounds like to me your corporation has been infiltrated, and someone with the roles to do so, possibly your CEO, has unachored and stolen your tower.

Agreed.

Just guessing but it looks to me like your CEO is a small scale Bad Bobby. Very small scale..

Ouch What did i do.....

If it was a bug they would have fixed it we had a tower go offline with 22 hours of fuel left in it. Petitioned it after it was shot and ccp returned the entire pos and all the mods.

Well, what this sounds like, is that someone either HAD the role or had the ability to GRANT the role to yoink the tower.

CEO and all directors have this by default.

A member can be able to GRANT roles without having the role.

Put all that together, and work out how you were yoinked.

its all a bit much work just to steal a single highsec tower.

i´d guess someone screwed up the roles.

Maybe it ran out of starbase charters. Would it just spontaneously unanchor itself in that case, allowing a passer by to scoop it?

...No. Charters count as fuel.

Closest I can get to an in game bug would be something that happened to a corp I know of that had a POS set up in a wormhole:

POS is up, online, and fueled. Hostiles enter the force field (impossible without the password), target and kill ships and pilots inside the force field (impossible, unless the 2-3 people inside the field all somehow drifted out and didn't notice), then destroyed the SMA and CHA (plain old impossible with the tower online, which it was). My closest wild guess as to how would be stretching the grid somehow to not have the forcefield show up, but as they warped in and popped stuff sitting meters from the tower, I seriously doubt that's what happened.

It's against the TOS to chatter about anything petition related which means there is *no way* I know details of that part myself, but I can tell you that the 12 man corp had 11 people unsubscribe the next month.

I had chalked this up to some massive fail on the corp's part, despite their experience in setting up towers. If it's a bug or exploit, and worse if it's starting to spread to random hisec gank corps I'd like it either fixed quietly or made impossibly hard to ignore so as to be fixed not quietly.

You might want to go through and audit the giving and taking of roles. Open your corporation window, then go to the members tab followed by auditing tab. Set the date range wide enough before and after the tower went down, and then select your CEO in the final drop-down box. See if they gave out the role to take down the tower to anyone. After this, check all your directors(if you have any). Hope this helps.

If that corp had people online and that happened, it should have been petitioned immediately under STUCK. A gm in a polaris should would have been more than glad to come and pop all the exploiters or reset the pos.
