Please can you provide a check box that blocks chat from ALL characters younger than 30 days. I believe this will help somewhat with throw away spam bots and scam bots/chars.

I don't think any NPC corp people should be able to talk in public channels.

Alienating new players is a great way to make sure they stick around! Very Happy

And what better way is there to encourage them to hang around and learn than by making them unable to even attempt to communicate with half of the game?

Actual new players tend to stick to their noob corp chat.

But if they have the box checked, or they do what everyone wants them to and move on to a real corp, they're ****ed if they want to communicate. CCP should have the option turned on by default, to ensure maximum retention of new players.

I have a better solution: all characters that are less than three years old should randomly explode.

+11

I agree, there should be a rankings blockade.

..and if you're under 30 days and a legit starter player how much do you really chat in local anyway? This is a good idea. it would cut some of spam in Jita... maybe.

+1 It's just a filter for your own chat, so it's not like a universal ban.

But, I would add that anyone who has this filter on should be invisible to characters less than 30 days old. This way new alts won't be able to eavesdrop in local, new players won't feel ignored when attempting to reply to the comments of older characters who can't see them, and other players won't take it the wrong way when they see someone being 'ignored'. Those players who want to help new players should be the only characters new players can see.

Adamantly in favour of this idea, especially useful for when noobs accidentally wander into low-sec ;)

just no...

you have a block feature, use it

This is in a sense a form of discrimination against newer players, and they arent all bad

This is not the kind of thing that should be done just because of spam bots and scammers, it would effect the new players too much to be worth it, regardless of what some people say here
