At the moment I am flying a Rupture and the one type of ship that consistently gives me a fight is a battlecruiser.

Now Drake I can do nothing to. That damn buffer is just too much. But with Harbinger and Hurricane I had some success to getting them into low armour before finally being killed. Thus I am trying to come up with a fit to take them on.

One point that keeps frustrating me is the ECM drones. I am carrying one medium and four smalls in my drone bay hoping for a jam. Alas maybe EVE just hates me, but I very seldom had them get a jam off during the fight. Even during times that they did work, they done that only once and it wasn't sufficient to win the battle.

As such I am considering using tracking disrupt drones. Though a jam is unarguably more awesome, at least disruption drones guaranteed to work throughout the duration of the battle.

Trouble is, I don't know anything about them and they don't seem to be popular. My question is: Why are they underused? Are they just don't make enough of a difference? Are they broken in some way?

Finally, is it a viable strategy to orbit close a gun-type battlecruiser with afterburner, small nos and flight of tracking drones or is it just an embarrassing killmail waiting to happen?

What is your opinion?

i have never used them but i hear that most E-war drones are useless as they have a stacking penalty :(

just did a quick check in eft
and 1 med and 4 small TD drones suck compared to one scripted tracking disruptor
you are better off fitting one tracking disruptor a AB and a scram then just orbit tight around the BC and hope the tracking disruption is enough

A lot of friends using them say over 3 of the same type it's useless. Seems correct, they should not be the main choice of E war but the + giving you better chances if you choose to equip your ship with E war mods.

Can you imagine the titanic advantage with a Vindi or Bhaalgorn + 5 web/energy neut drones, or Damp dedicated ships + 5 Damp drones?

E war mods seem not balanced already but before ccp ever touch those drones ability a lot of stuff must be balanced, like E war hulls/mods, and then maybe upgrade those drones with possible drawbacks if used by ships already having E war capabilities.

The issue right now is that if you upgrade E war drones then ECM drones + Caldari ECM ships already dominating E war stuff will destroy a big part of the game.

Of course a dedicated e-war module will be order of magnitude more effective than a drone. Trouble with that is the slot it uses up.

I really like that web being there. It gives me flexibility to at least stand a chance against assault ships while being in that otherwise very specialized setup. Also I need to web his drones if I ever want to be able to take them out with my 220mm guns.

Of course going for his drones rather than a ship is a dicey proposition, but when that Harbinger deploys 5 medium ECM drones, shooting at them first seems like a good idea.

track distruppor are stack penalized, even if source come from different ship. So the effect of track distruptors drones are very limited expecially if you can do much more with a single module and reserve drones for other purpouses. Same thing with damperer drones... a complete wast.

On the other hand if you dont want to use dammage drones then youll be much better with ecm drones. Random jamming will reduce hopponent dps and can be very handy to jam a tackler if you wanna try to escape. They saved my ass more than once when get tacked and enemy chivalry incoming. Wink

A close in AC Ruppy with a medium and a small neut up top should work against a Harby. Get in as tight as you can with an AB and a point and you should be ok. Use your drones to take out his. It is entirely possible to get in under the guns of a Harby this way since it does not have a tracking bonus.

Your are pretty much SOL on the Hurricane in a Ruppy IMO.
