NO I hope they don't stop changing up models! Yeah I liked the old Scorp's asymmetry too, but holy crap that new Maller model looks incredibly sexy! I will by all means crosstrain the hell out of Amarr Cruiser if they end up deploying that gorgeous piece of work.

Rupture without a doubt.
It looks like a really big power tool. Like a handheld drill.

Or a nailgun.

It's hideous. And my Iteron looks like a weiner.

One would think that for such advance races spending most of their time in space, along with cloning, space stations etc..they would have some pride in the looks of their ships.

I suppose design is not their forte'.

No wonder they're clones. : P

Ugly ships of EVE? LOL! Almost all of them? No really, this game has maybe a couple that look decent, the rest are not appealing at all. I cannot believe the humans in 30k years will have lost all taste of aesthetics.

QFT

That one or two manufacturers make ships for mere practicality I can understand. That ALL manufacturers make mostly ugly ships is silly. Especially Amarr.

I think EVE hits a big discrepancy with it's use of static ships and turret weapons. In most sci-fi space settings it's one or the other. Static shaped ships fire directly forward and do space dog fights. Other ships have moving parts. Engines that deploy, pieces that come off, sections that spin, or parts that open to allow equipment to slide out.

Osprey = space weevil.
Apoc = Space manatee with shark bites out of it's belly.

The Minmatar don't deserve any graphic upgrades while they insist on naming their cargo freighter the FENRIR. Google Fenrir once. A giant viscous fighting wolf... hey lets name our CARGO FREIGHTER WITH NO GUNS AFTER THAT!!! yeah they can keep their stupid fin pannels and junkyard hulls. Punishment from the gods, nothing less.

I get that Caldari are supposed to be blocky and chunky high-tech machinery looking ships, but they need more moving widgets to pull off the effect. The spinny thing on the scorpion is good. More stuff like that.

Camo paint is ridiculous. I don't know who thought that was a good idea in space but it makes the game look like amateur night when the FW navy ships show up looking ready to sneak through the jungle.

Some ships have really bad turret placement. The harbinger's final turret one on top and one under the right side looks very out of place. Some ships based on other ships' hull retain the hard point markers for turrets but can't fill them and that irks me. Either they left them there and can use them, or they took them off and you shouldn't see them. It's silly to leave them there like they've just been forgotten on a giant battleship that takes so long and so much ISK to make.

Clipping with the ship bothers me, too. The Omen shooting straight ahead fires through it's beak. I'm sure there are other examples.

I'm not sure what's up with all the gallente hate

The dominix totally looks like what I'd expect a space "carrier" to look like
The helios reminds me of a certain bounty hunter's searching space ship
And the Megathron is the coolest, most badass model in the game
I can understand the gripes about the Celestis but it doesn't really bother me

The Drake looks like a space manufacturing yard not a spaceship
The Vigil doesn't look like a spaceship at all... is it a lighthouse? A bouy? wtf?
Frankly, most of the minny frigates could use some help
The hyperion doesn't strike me as particularly gallente
The arbitrator looks more caldari then amarr (in fact, the curse could easily pass for a caldari ship)
The tormentor looks like a space maggot

Those are my big gripes

It's not the ugliest ship out there but it was the biggest let-down. The Hyperion. While the other races got really cool looking tier 3 BS the hyperion looks like a giant turd with... i dont know it's just butt-ugly.

I think it's one of the cooler ships out there.

As someone who just decided to roll Minmatar I'm making a choice to never fly one of their cruisers. Yes I know they are some of the best ships in the game but OH MY GOD did they get someone's kid to make those models?

I really liked the Hyperion in the market preview until I realized all it's guns were at it's extreme ends. It looks alright until it shoots at something. The particle effects of it shooting just look really odd to me.

I'm agree and was surprised people said the Abaddon. I love the look of that one and I hate that it doesn't fit at all with my skill plan.

Personally, I'd like to see the Megathron model changed.

Its bow is way too huge compared to the rest of the ship, and that tube on its left side also looks weird IMO. Other than that, I'd still take the current model as a baseline from which to evolve. Like they did with the Maller.

And face it, the Megathron ship model doesn't do the new turrets justice.

Other than that, Caldari. Most of their ships look like being high on LSD is mandatory for Caldari engineers.

And Minmatar. Seriously. Except for the Hurricane, all of their ships look like trashheaps with bolted-on turrets and engines.

It sounds to me like you haven't looked at a helios in a few years. They changed it from a Maulus hull to an Imicus hull a while back, in 2008 I think. Yes, they used to look like that, but now they look completely different and horrible, like a crippled hockey player.

Me too. I can't think of a single thing I would do to improve the Abaddon. The armor plates, the weapon banks, the "landing strip" lights that signify "this is where the hurt comes from", I think it's the overall best looking ship in EVE, especially when you pull up broadside along a slow moving target and unleash brightly colored light-based hell.

I like the look of Minnie ships personally. Except the bellicose. That thing's a sin.

Ofc the Mia is bad, but I think the Aeon/Archon are the worst. The archon looks like a flying textbook with little claws, or a skate egg case (Google it).

The Aeon, well, when I first saw one in game I restarted my client. Couldn't figure out why a quarter of the ship wasn't rendering. I couldn't believe a ship would look like that. It looks like 75% of a narwhal.

Anyhow my vote for ugliest ship in EVE goes to the Scythe hull

Nearly every ship in eve is ugly/horrible. Most of them look like one of the devs fourth grade kids built them (must have been low on funds at startup :) )

There are a few that are decent, and zero that are great awe inspiring masterpieces. CCP definately needs to hire some top notch, sci-fi oriented designers. Which after seeing the new turrets they mave have actually done. Even with an awesome designer they will need to let that guy/gal change the 'feel' of the old ships/designs. Forcing them to keep making ugly ass blobs for galente, as an example, isn't going to get you some great new designs.

I just came back to Eve after a couple years off and some of them look like they have changed, not always for the better

a few decent ship examples:
Widow - New one, even if Black Ops are pretty crappy ships. And no the scorp isn't on this list because the pain job matters!!

Executioner - probably the sleekest looking ship around, still not top notch though

Rifter - How they managed to make a pile of scaffolding look this aggressive is beyond me

Hurricane -- I remember this looking cooler did they change it or am I just getting spoiled by the quality of newer generation graphics in other games? Looks alot thinner now than i remember.
tengu, legion, proteus are also decent, not as good as i hoped for being recent additions to the game. Some configurations look down right aweful though.

harbinger, Geddon, Thrasher could be decent looking ships with a Res. increase on both the model and textures. (for gods sake no more camo in space!)

Fully agreed!

Decent in my opinion: Retribution, Malediction, Curse, Geddon, new maller looks ok too, Khanid paint jobs are great. Caldari does not have a single decent looking ship. Hyperion looks ok imo, Thorax isn't too bad. Hurricane is a nice looking ship.
And that's basically it for the subcaps, the rest gets below 6/10 for aesthetics.

The Ashimmu looks actually very nice, it's my favourite hull.

Imo, if one thing it's definitely not the pretty ships that attracts new players! ugh

The navy osprey is even uglier (and less useful!).. which goes to prove the old quote:

Not really sure if there's no average taste. Make a ship rating contest and let 1,000 people that don't play EVE rate the prettiness.

(...)

The prettiest hulls will include:
1. Nyx
2. Ashimmu
3. Armageddon

I wouldnt be so sure, when showing EVE (and the ships) to friends the opinions seem to be vastly different from those of the players.

For example, from all the capitals and supercapitals only a single person (a huge fan of the star wars movies, so that might explain it; he also did like the Machariel which not many did) ever picked the Nyx as being pretty. By far the most popular ones being the Nidhoggur and Providence.

Battleships, the Maelstrom typically took the cake, followed by Hyperion and Apocalypse.

There are definitely two different views, i.e. people that like the Nidhoggur also tend to pick the Maelstrom from the battleships, while the Providence people tend to like the Apocalypse as well.

As for the EVE players, I'd say there is always more to it than the pure design. I used to think the Vagabond was an ugly ship, but over time (flew it a lot) it grew on me, up to the point where I think it is one of the best-looking ships in game.

Once got attacked by some idiot in a Moa, I kept trying to orbit in my Jag, but I couldn't figure out which way the SOB was going, so I warped off. Moa gets my vote for fugliest ship.

The Gallente... uhh, they all look like polished turds. Shiny green space-poo.

Osprey is a tick, not a space weevil.

Always thought the Drake and Hurricane should be bolted together. Like space voltron.
(CCP please don't do ths... epic suck)Neutral

As far as physics and ships with unbalanced propulsion. You're playing a sci-fi game, maybe you can suspend reality for while. Laughing

Raven: Make it symetrical. It looks wounded.
Moa: Dear god throw it out and start over
Legion: Just the emergent locus analyzer subsystem. It looks so out of place on that ship.

Many of the lumpy, tumor-ridden Gallente ships. Not all (I rather like the catalyst for some reason) but a lot of them just look...wrong.
