I am seeing a lot of discontent in the EVE community lately. I do understand that the forums are filled with 50% cry babies, 40% trolls, and 10% community activists but, it still seems CCP is driving the car off the cliff with all the anger I see.

What can CCP do make "us" (the EVE community) happy and excited to play again?

its like the seasons, you get good ones and bad ones.

bad ones tend to follow or preceed big changes.

mostly by us bitter vets.

CCP can only do 1 thing, as they said during fanfest: DELIVER

They have to prove they can deliver good content, with scope and polish. What they did during the past years was releasing unfinished content, just the bare minimum, and then never touch it again (although they promised they would).

You tolerate that for some time, but its nearing to an end. If you look closely on subscription graphs (fanfest, QEN) you see that they are stagnating (they grow, then fall again, doing it 3-4 times over the past year).

So, is EVE dying? Nah, even if EVE wouldn't grow anymore, it wouldnt die. Even if it got down to 100.000 subs it would still work, as long as CCP would fund itself over other projects.

Lately?

EvE attracts intelligent people to it's playstyle model. Such people are often imaginative, and can really see where the game could be taken. The glacial pace of development is often frustrating to these kinds of folks, so it's no wonder we see so much ranting and raving around here. As to whether there is more disgruntlement lately, perhaps there has been.

We've just witnessed the failure of the new forums, and we are sitting on the brink of the highly controversial Incarna content after many years of waiting and speculating. I don't find it surprising that the forums are quite active and quite critical lately.

Been involved in many of them, 7.5 years in, i count as a bitter vet in some cases, and a fan boi in others! swings and roundabouts and all that.
in a few months it will all calm down, till the next change!

the forum crew is always the most loud when it comes to changes!

For a new player, as I am, I read the forums to get a better picture of the community. But when I read the general community i see a game that is crashing into the abyss.

I even watched the FanFest videos on youtube and i felt like CCP was trolling the community with the video the "A Future Vision" video they showed. They show it but won't talk about how soon or the major pieces of the puzzle... Dust. A carrot on a stick is still a great scam.

I've followed the forums regularly for about 4 or 5 years now and the level of complaints is pretty much what it always has been. The only big legitimate topic of discontent is with CCP failing to deliver what they promise/bringing underwhelming new content that they think is amazing. CCP actually have awesome vision for the game and most features, but they constantly fail to deliver on it for what ever reason and fail to develop it further. Everything else(and that too actually now that I really think about it Laughing) is pretty much whinage as usual/trolling.

We aren't really excited about anything, since we don't know ****. CCP either has nothing to show(unlikely) or is keeping all the details of anything good concealed(likely). Since we don't have any new topics to talk and spculate about, we endlessly mull over old issues and complaints.

2005 called, they want their post back.

Also, did you get any messages from the 90s? I was waiting to hear back from them concerning this phone call joke I found with their address on it.

I would like at least some kinda answer by CCP regarding certain gameplay issues/elements. I mean...They can say no, "No we are not going to change Blasters, Bounty Hunting System, Low Sec, other T3 ship to be as desirable as the Tengu, Magnetom drops, scan probe manipulation in space, etc." Or say "We are considering the following requested gameplay improvements...But don't expect anything in the next 6 months so don't ask till then." I mean hell...People have been asking for a change to the Bounty Hunting system for years, veterans and newbies alike and I haven't herd boo about it from CCP.

Gotta love this argument. It may seem that way yes but the rest of the player base has an opinion too and I'll tell you what, the ones posting care about eve.The others just quit when they are sick of it.

Community is actually really supportive right now. In fact I'd say "morale" is pretty decent.

The last time things were really bad (relative to the average negativity here) was post-PI expansion (whenever that was).

I have to agree with the above as that is about my time frame in game and my experiences with in that time frame.

Business as usual.

2. 2 Releases with little things that bother ( + new directional scanner)
3. Ship Redesign
4. Mining revamp
5. real NS revamp
