Counting only items that have well-defined defined mass and volume attributes, which one has the highest density in kg / m^3? If an item can be repackaged, count the packaged volume. Items that cannot be placed in stacks in a station do not count, so no stargates or other celestials please (1e28 kg / m^3).
Best candidate so far: Plutonium, 2000kg/m^3
Worst candidate so far: Station warehouse, 0.009 kg/m^3 (would float in hydrogen under standard conditions). |

And what's the mass per unit of each of those? It isn't listed in-game |

Here you go: mysql> SELECT typeName,mass,volume,mass/volume density FROM eve_official.invtypes ORDER BY density DESC LIMIT 5; +--------------------+--------+--------+-----------------------+ | typeName | mass | volume | density | +--------------------+--------+--------+-----------------------+ | Scordite | 1e+035 | 0.15 | 6.66666666666667e+035 | | Massive Scordite | 1e+035 | 0.15 | 6.66666666666667e+035 | | Condensed Scordite | 1e+035 | 0.15 | 6.66666666666667e+035 | | Viscous Pyroxeres | 1e+035 | 0.3 | 3.33333333333333e+035 | | Solid Pyroxeres | 1e+035 | 0.3 | 3.33333333333333e+035 | +--------------------+--------+--------+-----------------------+ |

Is there another attribute on those that sets the mass as not being displayed in-game? If so, could you exclude items with that attribute set to the same value? |

Possibly, but since I do not know off hand that would require me to actually spend time on it and I do not want to. |

I suspect 1e35 is just a placeholder, and it might also function as the trigger that turns off the listing of mass in 'Show Info' windows. If you strip out all instances of that value, I imagine the next mass down will be quite a lot smaller, i.e. 1e9-1e10 for supercapital ships. |

Stargates have the same mass and are showing it. But just for you and because I like copy'n'pasting useless queries: mysql> SELECT typeName,mass,volume,mass/volume density FROM eve_official.invtypes WHERE mass < 1e+035 ORDER BY density DESC LIMIT 5; +-----------------------------+---------+--------+----------+ | typeName | mass | volume | density | +-----------------------------+---------+--------+----------+ | Black Morphite | 100000 | 0.01 | 10000000 | | 30km Minmatar Capture Point | 1000000 | 1 | 1000000 | | 10km Minmatar Capture Point | 1000000 | 1 | 1000000 | | 10km Caldari Capture Point | 1000000 | 1 | 1000000 | | 30km Gallente Capture Point | 1000000 | 1 | 1000000 | +-----------------------------+---------+--------+----------+
and mysql> SELECT typeName,mass,volume,mass/volume density FROM eve_official.invtypes WHERE mass < 1e+035 AND published = 1 ORDER BY density DESC LIMIT 5; +-----------------------------+------+--------+------------------+ | typeName | mass | volume | density | +-----------------------------+------+--------+------------------+ | Nanite Repair Paste | 2500 | 0.01 | 250000 | | Fulmination Assault Missile | 1000 | 0.015 | 66666.6666666667 | | Hellfire Assault Missile | 1000 | 0.015 | 66666.6666666667 | | Torrent Assault Missile | 1000 | 0.015 | 66666.6666666667 | | Terror Assault Missile | 1000 | 0.015 | 66666.6666666667 | +-----------------------------+------+--------+------------------+
Those are definitely the last ones I do though. I'll just image you said thanks btw. |

Edited by: Kazuo Ishiguro on 02/04/2011 12:21:01Yes, thanks for your efforts. I tried running the same queries (more or less) in SQL server 2008 with a fresh backup but got quite different results: SELECT top 5 typeName,mass,volume,mass/volume density FROM invTypes where invTypes.volume > 0 and invTypes.mass < 10^36 ORDER BY density DESC
typeName mass volume density ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- ---------------------- ---------------------- Defender I 10 0.015 666.666666666667 Arch Angel Titanium Sabot S 1 0.0025 400 Arch Angel Fusion S 1 0.0025 400 Arch Angel Phased Plasma S 1 0.0025 400 Arch Angel EMP S 1 0.0025 400

please don't break the forums.
also I do not know enough about SQL Server 2008 to know why your query does not work correctly, maybe the ORDER BY statement does not work with the alias? |

1. Did CCP have a hard crash or something because my UI had none of my default channels set up and now when logging in my default character wasn't set.
@CCP: seriously here. WTF are you guys doing? Do you know?
2. What is even more amusing is if you reverse the Order By and remember that pure water has a density of 1 (if I remember right). E.g. 1m3 water = 1,000kg. So it is amusing to see what can *float*. |

On closer inspection, the table invTypes doesn't even contain an entry for Nanite Repair paste, so perhaps I need to create another one. I think to get the relevant information I'd need to do a merge on eveNames and dgmTypeAttributes (mass = 4, volume = 161), but I'm not quite sure of the syntax.
Talking of things with low densities, I think station warehouses would float in hydrogen (under standard conditions). |

it most certainly does, see my post above. whatever database you are using seems to be incomplete and incorrect |

a bit late to the party, and perhaps i took the initial request too literal ...
but my extensive research indicates the most dense _item_ on tq is 268946627.
which on second thought isnt much of a surprise.

Re: not being able to find nanite repair paste: yes, I was being silly. I'm much more familiar with SAS than SQL, so perhaps I should try converting the database into that format instead. I was trying to work out whether there were any items capable of turning a station into a black hole while respecting the limits on stacks per hangar and the number of players / characters in EVE, as per this post: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1489839&page=1#18 |
