Edited by: NinjaSpud on 28/03/2011 16:14:37 So, the other day, I was ninja salvaging. I found a lvl3 mission in amarr space (not bad I guess) being done by a hurricane. So I warp in, start salvaging, and eagerly awaiting the tears that normally fallow.
The guy convos me, and asks a few questions. How'd I find him (kinda new i guess, didn't know much about scanning), he said "So you come in and steel peoples loot? That's what you do?" To wich I replied "Hell yea, it's a blast"....man i wanted some tears, i was so close I could taste em. But then he was like "LOL Whatev, it's all good."
Jumping to the important part, after about 10 minets of chatting with the guy, I learned that he is an American soldier stationed in Iraq. Now, I'm American, and while I'm not fond of the War my governmnet has involved us in, I have family and friends over seas fighting and risking their lives. I have nothing but respect and love for the soldiers caught in this political heist.
My heart kinda sank when I realized I was greifing a guy who had been part of a RL convoy that got shelled the other day. So, I told him that if anyone should be having fun and relaxing in this game, then it should be him...God knows he probably needs it.
I prompty returned all the slavage I had taken from him, and then got my Pew Pew ship and helped with his mission.
Just wanted to share that with you all. I hope that soldier is safe and makes it home. |

What about the countless other people you 'grief' Don't you think they have a story aswell? :) or maybe they deserve it?
I just find it interesting that you chose to be selective in your 'good deed'

U mad bro? On a more serious note I'm getting the distinct impression you do not approve of ninja looters and have perhaps been visited by a few. This would seem to be your real issue here, and not anything to do with double standards. Perhaps you should take a deep breath and go outside for a while. Also have you considered that perhaps the secondary purpose of this players thread is a subtle reminder to other ninjas that the people they are "salvaging" from are also people? With real lives and feelings, and that perhaps just once in a while a little more care should be taken? Of course not, you would not consider that for a moment would you, since you are too busy clearly being angry. EDIT: For poor grammar. I know it still sucks but not as much as it did. |

1) If conscience is a factor, then doesn't everyone have a story? You could be jacking cancer patients for all you know.
2) If conscience is NOT a factor, then you should have ripped off soldier boy for all he was worth and then podded him, because it's just a video game.
Which is it?

Edited by: Telecom Tina on 28/03/2011 17:28:41Sounds like the OP experienced a little Troll's Remorse. Just repeat to yourself "I did it for the lulz, I did it for the lulz, I did it for the lulz. . ." until you're ready to farm more tears. Whenever a ninja jumps into my missions, I just pop all the wrecks. Last ninja who scanned me down managed to steal something before I blew up all the junk. I convo'd him and asked if there was a list of people who pop wrecks and don't counter-flag I could get on. I explained that the tears/time ratio would be better if he knew which people don't take the bait. He logged. I thought that was pretty funny. Moral of the story: ninjas aren't a big deal. Just deny them both isk and tears and they'll leave. Originally by: Mister Rocknrolla

ninja-salvaging isn't griefing.
salvaging itself is a miniprofession, true. But the art of the ninja is to get the other guy to flag you so you can come back with a pvp ship and blow up his overly expensive, very shiny, faction fitted carebearboat. And most missioners feel entitled to the salvage from the wrecks as well as the bounties, rewards, loot and LP. Messing with peoples sense of entitlement to generate tears could easily be defined a griefing in broader terms, if not under the EULA. |

Sigh...No im not mad at all, sorry to dissapoint you. No i don't really care too much for ninja stealing but hey the game mechanics allow it so i don't grumble. Tell me where did i complain in my post about that? Try not to assume so much or read between the lines because inevitably you will get it wrong. Clearly if you could read or perhaps comprehend, then my 'issue' is with the attitude and nature of the OP. Your assumptions only serve to make you appear less intelligent than you obviously are and your (smells of alt) attempt to redeem the honour of the OP fails im afraid. The way I see ninja salvaging is kind of zen.
Everyone has a right to drink from my little stream, because I shall certainly drink from theirs.
If I occaisionally participate in gate camps and go "har har" then I have no right to be like "why you griefing me bro" when someone salvages my wrecks.
You give someone a bad day yesterday, someone else will give you a bad day tommorrow. That's how it works.
So either petition CCP to stop any kind of ganking, destruction, theft, piracy, ninja salvaging, etc etc or stfu and enjoy the game.
Eve is meant to be a meaty experience, people are supposed to be getting ganked and robbed left and right, and we're meant to LAUGH about it rather than CRY about it.
If you see your profession as "griefing" another human being and willingly do it, then quite frankly you're a scumbag and deserve to be man****d in prison.
Every single one of my victims is assumed to be willingly PARTICIPATING in the game.
Sometimes I'm the gankee, sometimes the ganker, either way it's meant to be lulz all around.

Akita and Aeronwen, ty for the 07, I think you two are the only ones who actualy understood the sentemintal moment I had for people who are risking their lives for the rest of us...it had nothing to do w/ the game.
Anti Castro: Not as pathetic as your avatar, OMG when creating it did you stop mid-way and beat the hell out of him/her (can't tell) with an ugly stick? If Rupal and Dennis Rodmin had a baby together, it would look like your avatar. (trol vs trol, mine is stronger then yours)
Aisha Kropotkin: lol awesome vid...I'm pretty sure I'm in there.
Cipher7: as if everything in either black or white, welcome to reality, there's alot of grey.
Mister Rocknrolla: No, this isn't a stealth nerf the ninja thread...I love ninja'ing, its one of my favorite things to do.
Tina: Troll's remorse...hmm. TO be honest, I felt for the guy, becuase my older brother is in Afghanastan right now. I love him and miss him very much, and it just reminded me of him. He is my personal Hero, and every day I pray he comes home safe.
In general I don't see it as greifing, but admint it, Ninja Salvaging ****es some people off. It's part of the game, and its fun.
TO everyone:
This thread wans't about changing a game mechanic, or any kind of conflicting conspiracy of morals. If you can't figure out why I posted it, then you are clearly missing something and need to take a break for RL. |

The way I see it is that ninja salvaging is a part of the game--ccp has said so and so that's the way it is. Deal with it using the tools of the game. Best thing to do is to follow the good advice given by others to avoid having it happen to you in the first place, but if does happen, then first, don't give the ninja what he probably wants most--in the OP's words, "man i wanted some tears, i was so close I could taste em." Take that satisfaction away from him--do that, and you've just taken away a chunk of his fun right there. Shrug your shoulders and tell him, "Oh well...you got me this time." Laugh about it and then diddy-bop on your way. But first be sure to put him in your contacts folder--you know what they say about paybacks and revenge being a dish best served cold--he got you today, you'll get him tomorrow or next week or next month. Patience is a virtue... |

Ninja looting is, in my opinion, one of the lesser crimes of EVE. Far less nefarious than can baiting n00bs. In fact, considering how much wreckage is left by players who fail to turn it blue before leaving the system, looting wrecks is darn near a public service for cleanliness.
At any rate, more on topic, that was a nice gesture. I think some people forget that there are real people behind these avatars trying to have fun in EVE just like you. But really ninja salvaging is a small crime in comparison to the lengths people will go to in EVE to grief someone. |

Good points. And thanks for the tip on turning wrecks blue. I have to remember to turn my wrecks blue because I really haven't done any salvaging to speak of yet. If I can't get to the goodies, better them going to someone else than them just sitting there cluttering up the joint. And yes, what he did was a nice gesture. This is just a game played by real people (well...except for the bots--may their creators be infested by a thousand fleas) and we shouldn't ever forget that. |

1st of all: LOL at the bot creators comment. Hopfully the devs stance and methods discussed during fanfest will help purge eve of the bots. 2nd: It's true, even in war there can be some civility, we're all people in the end. From now on, I will only ninja salvage because I love you all so much. |

If there's any emotion it's pity. You are welcome to come salvage my missions. The last 5 prO PeeVEePeeR ninja's that tried to sneak back in a combat ship all died because they weren't used to fighting someone that wasn't a carebear. So, your story was that you were going about your daily eve play, doing whatever it is you do. Suddenly someone announces to you that they were involved in some real-life fisticuffs at which point you became emotionally invested and offered to help them with what they were doing. So I took a shot at making a similar claim in order to evoke the same emotion so that you would feel compelled to help me with what I am doing. In the event it should work, I also included a brief description of what I would like help with, namely marshaling for my frigate races. (And by the way, race marshal is a legitimate job title. It's almost obsolete in the real world due to all the technology embedded in race tracks which monitor racers' performances, but in eve we have no such technology and therefore we choose to do it manually.) In the event it doesn't work, no harm done, it was worth a try. |

People join the army for one thing, defence of the country and if they happen to get stationed somewhere where theres a war or defence. Their job is to get blown up, its not like conscription, its a active choice of theirs.
I get bored with all the reports of deaths in news reports, I am sad they've died, but thats what they signed up for.
