As we speak the West has finally gotten off its ass and finishing what (unfortunately) Reagan failed to accomplish with a F-111 fighter bomber strike (Operation El Dorado Canyon) back in 1986.

A wide variety of modern military systems are involved in combat operations, some (like the RAF Typhoon) for the first time ever.

B-2 Stealth bombers are making epic 48 hour sorties out of Whiteman AFB, Missouri, each delivering 25 JDAMS apiece to Libyan military airfields deep inside enemy territory.

Rumors are the F-22 Raptor may see some action, out of bases in southern Europe, though at this stage the F-15E and the F-16C have carried most of the load.

Reports are that hundreds of Tomahawk missiles have been launched from UK and US Naval units in the Mediterranean.

"Whacky" Col. Kaddafi is surrounding himself with women, children and CNN reporters in an effort to protect himself, but it seems clear his days are numbered.

Which weapon system(s) do you think will send him (belatedly) to the hot place?

(Oh, and trolls - avoid talking politics, keep it to military hardware being used in the Libya campaign "Operation Odyssey Dawn", please.)

Edit: spelling

F-15 fell out of the sky so it can't be that.

Shame we binned the vulcan bombers because they would have easily won most terrifying.

An ak-47 round to the head from a rebel who made it to the capital under the support of all that stuff you listed.

A slice of cheese he'll be ingesting a few years from now in his sumptuous exile home in some country with no reason to extradite him.

I would say nuke it just for the lulz, but I cannot help but see a huge problem coming from this, especially with the situation in israel popping its ugly head up again...

great just what we need in the area, more instability

Yepp, this thread will end well. Confused

And to get it there quicker:
My bet is these ones.
As your "Chicago used car salesman" will GTFO ASAP from there as he has much bigger fish to fry in two other theaters. And will be busy NOT bombing his Saud allies, who´re doing practically the same in Bahrain as the "ebil" Gaddafi.

It costs £200,000 for each Tornado run over Libya. Each missile it carries costs £800,000. A rag head with a AK-47 or RPG costs less per hour than someone working on the minimum wage.

The west prides itself on having the most high tech weapon systems. It is ironic that this very expensive military machine since the end of WW2 has always fought enemies that have old out of date Russian made equipment and other stuff from European countries and a little from the USA. The Falklands conflict being the lone exception.

So from a solely economic viewpoint the west should have a ready army of mercenaries recruited from Africa and middle America. Then prosecuting wars in under developed countries will cost ten times less and yield 3x the result than prancing about in a country with 50,000 - 100,000 troops at great cost. But this won't happen as western countries want to maintain its convoluted moral high ground.

My personal vote would be B-52H loaded with several dozen 500 pounders over Tripoli. Blows my mind that the USAF is planning on keeping them in service until 2040 - or 80+ years since they first flew. But Libyan air defense would have to be basically wiped clean first.

Sadly, the BUFF is sitting this one out.

Maybe they'll just clear out the SAM sites and then fly a C-130 over with a Daisy Cutter. Nothing but teeth and a bad smell left afterwards.

But chances are, yeah, it will likely be AK-47, or cheddar cheese laced with Israeli cyanide.

Your glorification of hardware designed to murder people is disgusting.

I agree with the intervention in Libya, but it's not a cool or awesome thing, it is a horrible and vile thing done out of necessity.

Unfortunately, CCP forum rules forbid discussion of the political, moral and ethical ramifications of military action against Col. Kaddafi. Therefore this thread is limited to discussion of your favorite modern military weapon systems and their effective (or fantasy/theoretical) use against targets in Libya.

while we are at it can we nuke your city aswell?

on topic, this is all BS reason i say this since 1918+
the place has been carved up and dictators put in place to control the natural resources,
only countries that still have the original dictators are the ones that are backed by the United states and funny enough use Tanks and APCs against their own people, going to the extent of threatening their people with violence and sever repercussions if they protest. yet all osama i mean obama says is use restraint

The UN resolution is to protect civilians from air strikes from Libyan planes, what do they do when rebels start advancing even further, bomb one side or sit on the side line and have a nice aerial view of the blood bath?

this Post will most likely be deleted so enjoy it on Eve search ;)

Wow, yet another high quality EVE forum thread Razz

Bigger issue is that we're in a bit of a fix here.
Air power and cool gadgets never won a war, you need soldiers on the ground.
No western nation will put a soldier in that hellhole and I really doubt any Arab/African nation will either.
The Weekend Warriors of the Glorious Revolution don't stand a chance against regular troops.
So now what ? ugh
