I found this a little puzzling, anything you know about this would be helpful.

While salvaging a wreck from a mission, I got an error message that said something along the lines of not having enough room for the salvage, though I didn't catch the whole message. But I had over 50 m3 remaining in my ship's cargo hold when it happened. Did I miss something large and/or potentially valuable?

You missed the world's biggest truffle, needs 1 m3 more than you had to hold it and it's worth eleventy billion isk

I wonder if it's something to do with metal scraps that have become more numerous in salvage tables recently, I don't think the odd one piece of metal scraps would be that large though.

Ugh. It's because you have to have enough room for sixteen useless metal scraps at 5m3 apiece (and they refine into, like, 100 units of trit!) if that's what the RNG gods decide to give you. Really wish you could choose to NOT accept metal scraps when salvaging. It's pretty dumb.

Have run into this a few times myself. I suspect (not sure though) that when you start salvaging it is not yet clear what you may or may not salvage. So the software assumes the 'worst case scenario' which would probably be a hand full of metal scraps which would not fit if salvaged so it tells you it cannot salvage because it assumes that if it is scraps that it won't fit.

Confused Am I making sense? (I fear the worst).

Does that mean I lost the 12 armor plates I know that wreck had, or did I just lose the metal scraps?

Reminds me of the stargates that drop 50 metal scraps, and there is not a ship I can fly that can destroy one in less than 2 hours and also collect its loot in one go >.<

It's a package deal. You don't get any of the salvage content, if you don't succesfully salvage the entire wreck.

Just drop all the loot to a can then salvage, then filter wat salvages are good and bad to ur cargo hold.

Sounds like it's time to invent a new midslot module called "Salvage Filter: When activated, allows you to select what salvage and which quantity goes into your cargohold and what salvage does not."

Do this. Put all the metal scraps and 800m3 cap boosters in a can and suddenly you get your cargohold back again.

And why not just use Noctis which can easily salvage everything from missions to plexes in one go with like 2700 m3 of space.

On some missions, you get well over 4000m3 of loot, so no.. even a noctis can have troubles.
However, dumping your cap boosters and metal scraps DOES free up all that space.
and if you must you can always come back for them ;)

Folks he is talking about Salvage not Loot, and Metal Scrap is definitely not a Salvage product its Loot!!

So i assume most likely the result he got while salvaging a wreck, was a bit to much to fit completely in his Cargospace, if this is the Case and Cargospace can't take the amount about Salvaged processed stuff it clearly states Failed and you get nothing out of it due to your try to Salvage the wreck, best thing to prevent this happen is getting a Salvage ship with a bit more cargospace or fit a Cargohold expansion. Very Happy

OP: ignore the above...there are about seven incorrect statements in there. Previous posts are correct.

Jet can salvaging is the answer.

It actually makes a lot of sense, and reveals when the calculation is made. If the check were made after the salvage operation succeeded, instead of before it was attempted, you would have been given a choice of things to not salvage, if you truly didn't have space.

Guessing it's "too hard" to pop up a window asking you to pick and choose salvage if you don't have sufficient space.

I tried to salvage a freighter and it said you need 25,000 m3. Another freighter salvaged just fine.

This is incorrect. It only makes the calculation when I have finished salvaging. At the point in time that it decided I didn't have enough space for what was coming, it deleted it all and gave me nothing, and the wreck disappeared. The rest of the large wrecks were salvaged just fine with less than 50m3 space remaining.
