Ransoms don't work.

In 0.0, there are almost no pirates and no reason to let the pods live: uncompromised security is worth more than any implant set costs.
In lolsec, pirates say 'lol thanks' and still pod you for kicks. They don't have a reason to honor the deal.
In hisec, they pod you 'cause they don't have time to make an offer.

Except me. I don't ask unless I'm really sure I'm not about to get bounced by backup or other predatory types. Most of the time I'm flying solo and fast moving so it's a case of kill -> move on before it gets noticed.

If I have the time and think the victim is viable I might ask on the pod (if they're likely to have a head full of implants) but for ships? If they want to offer a ransom they can but the timer on me accepting is exactly as long as it takes for me to shoot them dead. Sometimes it's just much funnier to have that solo CNR killmail with a frigate then the isk :)

Always honoured if accepted though and in gangs I do what I'm told :(

EDIT: I refuse your ransom Drakkar. Come get me, but do better than last time :p

There are some corporations that make money by ransoming. There aren't many that actually are honorable. Most pirate corporations like Veto will ransom then destroy your ship anyways. I wouldn't bother paying any ransoms if ever given the opportunity. There are too many scumbags in this game.

- S

Any Veto pilot that doesn't honour a ransom will get a one way ticket out of the corporation.

FUUUUUUUUU.

I am making a list and you are at the top.

Also for the record there are plenty of players that pirate in null space, they are just doing it right and keeping a low profile.

Cosmic Encounter honor ransom.

We ransom every pod except if he is in/near jumping range.

Even a 15 days pilot... It can be an alt full of +5 implants and those usually pay.

We usually don't ransom ships except if it's an hauler and we have cargo scanners in fleet or if the target ship don't move/shoot/self-destruct.

Are you the head of Cosmic Encounter? Do you personally vouch for every single yob of yours flying around? If it's yes and yes, then what reparations does Cosmic Encounter provide in case ransom's not honored? None? Then you're lying.

I am one of the head of Cosmic.

When a ransom is not honored. (by exemple : If the pod take age to pay and finally pay without saying anything and got popped).

We reimburse the ransom ISK and if a pilot kill a POD without the FC autorisation, he need to pay the corporation the ransom value or estimed value... If it's not his first mistake, of course).

I need to precise that we only ransom in our 3 main system. The other Alliance systems, the other alliance rules (no ransom).

Cool <-- Here is your tax. This is a smiley that I added into this post, and subsequently gave it a value (RRP) of one million and five ISK.

I await the repayment of the excess tax paid.

Cool story bro

Like someone above said.
Sometimes it's not worth to ransom target especially if your wallet is fat and you want a killmail.
Also podding in low is possible I've encounter many pilots who panicked after being caught on the belt. Many of them just stayed idle after their's ships went boom. Laughing

ransoming is alive and well inside wh's. if the feild is clear we offer ransoms on all pods. price (based on character age, ship they lose and likelyhood of implants) and 30 seconds stated in local, after 30 seconds those that pay go home, those that dont go in graveyard can #4. all ransoms honored, if a pod is lost after pay (say we are counter jumped or some tard hits the wrong mod) then isk is refunded.

but its very rare we would ransom a ship, rather take the chance of a nice drop and have a km regardless.

I was caught in a wormhole once by some chaps - I asked if I could negotiate safe passage, they agreed. I payed them 50mil and they let me fly free. Wish there was more Pirates like that. No smack - just business. Very Professional.

I ransom whenever possible, but's tricky to do for a number of reasons:

1) You have to not kill them while they're trying to kill you.

2) They tend to get ****ed off: "ya, go ahead and kill me, I got five miner alts making isk to replace this. I make more isk per day than you do in a month griefing nubcake"

3)They have corpies one or two systems away and will try to stall (uh, yeah, let me go ask my thirty friends over there for the cash)

4) The longer you sit there, the more likely another pirate or a weekend low-sec roam group will show up.

So last nights roam proved I probably shouldn't be pvping on this really bad wifi access I'm leeching but I've been inactive for too long and am OH SO BORED.

Stupidly lost a ranis to a rifter engaging a neut/ab fit in a mwd fit and lagged on death failing to get my pod out (lol) was ransomed for a quite reasonable 10m isk. Considering it was a member of the fine establishment 'The Tuskers' I paid in as much time as it takes to type OK, right click a name and give money Razz THAT'S HOW TO DO IT FOLKS, DON'T FANNY ABOUT.

This was much more reasonable than when Spank was a very low skilled character and aiming to kill bad pilots in terrible fits, lost a laser Heron in OMS or Eghellende or somewhere like that and was ransomed for 20m as a noob.

So back to last nights roam, I tried ransoming someone 2 month old character's pod (never ransom ships) jokingly for 10m which naturally he wasn't interested in, I dropped to 1m, nope, 500k just so he can 'find how to pay in a pinch' and still he just wasn't interested. Considering I was, in part, trying to raise my sec I let him go, chatted about his career in low sec pvp (his kb stats show he is doing just fine actually) then invited him to the Tuskers public channel to get some tips from the pro's.

I just want to say people with a decent attitude tend to do better in this game than raging morons.

tl;dr I managed to get pod ransomed in low sec.

United honors all ransoms - including refunding ISK when "errors" occur. Leadership is very serious about this. Honoring ransoms is simply good business for the folks in the ransoming business... If you establish a reputation you have more opportunity to make ISK.

If you want a ransom ask in local. STOP YOUR POD, accept the convo and you and your implants will be on your way....understand time is of the essence so getting cute won't fly too long.

It's a business transaction.

Pre-emptive TL;DR: ransoming is very very situational and a hassle with no reward most of the time.

Cases in which I don't ransom:
  • Target is on gate

  • Target is at station

  • Target is younger than 21 days

  • Target is still able to damage my ship

  • Target is known to have allies nearby

  • Unknown and potentially dangerous ship(s) on scan

Might have forgotten this or that, but you get the idea - several conditions have to be met in order for a ransom to feel safe, i.e. profitable.

Even if all the conditions have been met and you can finally talk business, more often than not people just won't pay for various reasons.

My favorite are the people who fly faction bling into a mission in lowsec and only have 250m in their wallet, which frankly just won't save your potentially faction fitted Navy Raven.

I lost my ship around Tama not long ago while going after a small mining fleet. Had my pod warp scrambled due to my own error of not bothering to re-set up my overview after a re-install and an incredibly fast locking loki.

Ransom wasn't offered, however i instantly opened up a pc and offered ransom, 50m was agreed upon and sent immediately. It took the whole of 10 seconds, But i did have to offer ransom first as the pilot was non-English speaking.
A corpmate flew into the same camp a little while later, he didn't pc the guy(S) and was podded in about 15 seconds.

Moral of the story, offer ransom yourself if you get chance. Some people aren't native speakers of English (if at all) and don't know how to ask for ransom.

TLDR; Stupidly got caught in my pod, offered ransom and was accepted

When I started eve I was going to be a pirate. SO cool i thought. Got my ship, did the learning missions. And then fitted out my little free minmater ship with bigger guns and the free shield and repair kit. Then went to 0.5 space and wanted a miner to hold for ransom. Found one. Targeted and approached him. Started to chat and then Got poded by rats instead. A beginer ship is not good for being a pirate.

I still try to ransom, but every time I do the victim speaks broken English or doesn't speak at all. Once had one victim in a BC who, when ransomed, spoke very little and of what he did say it was gibberish. I almost thought he was shouting his grocery list at me.

Blast...Ransoming isn't paying out for me...

I ransomed a Rifter today and he tells me he's a trial account. I apologize and blow him up with a warning.
I try to ransom a Celestis but it warps off. I'm guessing it had a warp core stab on or two.

Bah. What luck.
