Hereīs my idea for a goal for roaming gangs of all sizes which I think would be good fun for everyone:


1. Why not make the custom offices vulnerable to electronic attack frigs with a hacking module? They could hack into the sov payment system and transfer a percentage of the usual sov bill from the sov holding corp/alliance to all fleet members. That surely would be an incentive to form a defense gang instead of hiding in a station. And who wouldnīt love to steal from oneīs own favorite reds?

It also should be very easy to balance as you can easily scale the amount of money being transfered (more in station systems or less if you bring a huge blob of attackers e.g.) as well as the difficulty and duration of the hacking process. And it would give the electronic attack frigs a nice new role. An HD fleet could attack the entire fleet or try to kill the eFrigs, even simply bomb them at the custom office if severely outnumbered. Smile


2. A second, more conventional idea is to make the custom offices vulnerable to simple dps attacks, those lowering the indices of the system. This could target the carebears by lowering the industry and military index. Or - even more interesting - it could slowly lower the sov index. This would provide a fun chance for a medium sized attack which would scale between todays (very ignorable) roaming gangs and a full, all hands on deck invasion force.


Any thoughts? I think this could greatly enhance the roaming gang experience. Small to mid sized fights are usually a lot more fun than the large fleet warfare anyway... and a lot easier on the servers too. Cool

I think killing marauders, ratting carriers, ratting super motherships a more worthy goals for roaming gangs =)

Hehe, sure thing. And thatīs why we roam today. But itīs really easy for individuals to hide in a station or cloak for a few hours until even the last red died of boredom or old age. However when the reds reach directly into your wallet and/or lower your indices it becomes a lot more problematic for an alliance not to defend its space. You still can choose not to react but itīs a lot more costly and the roamers will benefit directly from it. Win/win.. well, kind of. Wink

Don't you reach them in the wallets already when they dock up or cloak for hours? As far as I know you can't shoot rats or mine minerals when docked up or cloaked. Yes you always have the passive income from POS/Research, but you still cut a part of their active income of.

Well, yeah, but in a very boring and unsatisfying way. Isnīt it a lot more fun to bring in your ewar frigs, protect them from enemy bombers for 10-15 mins while they hack into the bank? And then see your wallet flash with the faked transaction? Check your journal and see that "50 million isk, with best regards from the Goonswarm orphanage fund?" Very Happy

Hanging around in a system doing nothing but wait for the other one to move is no fun for either side. Better incite people to be active.
You can easily put an upper limit to the amount of isk that people can steal per attack or per period of time, so noone gets milked until they are flat broke. But it still should be costly enough for people to want to defend themselves.
