Oblivion was awesome, but I think people need to remember that it was one of the first games that came out for the new consoles. The first line of games that come out for new consoles are usually rather bland with issues and all. In spite of that, I still loved the game, personally (I found every easter egg, did every quest, aside from the DLC, and found it to be great fun). By the way, WTF Bethesda? How ****ing long has it been since Oblivion came out??? You morons had to come out with this line of ****ty games before you realized people would want a new elder scrolls? I mean, seriously, someone up there is just 100% idiot. The only half-decent game they came out with since was Fallout 3 (haven't played Vegas), and that game was just oblivion with giant piles of trash, and wasn't that great anyway! It's been too long since they came out with a new elder scrolls . Ok, soap box done. |

Oblivion was only released in 2006, they were probably lightly working on the concept of a TES 5 while Fallout 3 was coming together, and now Vegas has come out all of their resources are freed up to work full time on this now. They have to keep the money coming in, and Fallout was such a success. Also you have to remember, TES 5 is running on a completely new engine. If it's not an engine they've bought, but developed themselves, than that's easily a few years of development itself. |

For TES I'd like to see Mount & Blade style combat, FO leveling, and Morrowind depth/complexity/sandbox.
Oblivion for me was spoilt by the button-mashing combat and, even more than that, the leveling system which forced you to focus gameplay on getting those 3 +5s attribute bonuses per level. |

Actually, if I remember correctly, around that time that Fallout 3 came out, they specifically said that they weren't working on a new elder scrolls at the time. Also, meh @ fallout 3 and vegas. I played 3, didn't bother to look at Vegas because 3 was fairly bland. Do notice that when I said ****ty games, I spoke of games more like Wet. Also, I said nothing about the engine as it applies to Elder Scrolls 5, but I am looking forward to seeing it. |

This is the only thing which has me curious about TES 5. The fantasy genre bores me to tears at this point, but if the world and AI are done well i might be able to bring myself to slaughter more elves and save my thousandth kingdom. |

Time between Daggerfall and Morrowind was almost 6 years, so i don't see what the problem is. |

They came out with a ton of other completely crappy games and didn't even consider a new elder scrolls for a while. That was my point. |

RPGCodexians' take on this new Oblivious iteration. The first of hundreds, have no doubt. If you've never visited the site, be warned that some of the language may be offensive to you, especially if you're a younger EVE player, but the Codex, on the whole are brutally honest about the 'RPG' efforts of late, and tend to pine for those of different era. More power to them. If you're a regular, you just know we're in for a treat with this. |

I tend to chalk up talk like that as fond memories of childhood. As you age games just don't hold the same magic, or grip your imagination the same way. People trying to recapture the feeling of the first RPG they enjoyed are just doomed to a life of disappointment. |

1. Deadly Reflexes2. Marts Monster Mod 3. Oblivion XP4. Unofficial Oblivion Patch Two bolded mods fix the first two problems you described. Not quite to M&B of course, but Deadly Reflexes makes combat much harder and the mobs no longer scale to your level. If you set the difficulty right, you WILL get ****d by bandits right off the bat. Oblivion XP - experience for completing quests, killing monsters, making potions, etc, set number of attributes/skill points per level. Flips the levelling system upside down, yes, but it works soooo much better, as it eliminates the grind. MMM adds some more monsters to the game that will kill you repeatedly. This mods don't fix the divergence from Morrowind, but they do make Oblivion much more enjoyable. |

I've read the rumors for months, so yay for confirmation
Now THIS is a game I can be excited about.
100% animation, 0% ingame footage. Video does not deliver. Wake me up again when they have something more to show than vapour. |

I couldn't stand Oblivion, with its MOBs that leveled with you, so that you were technically speaking just as powerful at level 1 as you were at level über. I tried some mods to fix it, but it just didn't feel like the developer's game with that. just plain sucked. Morrowind however... awesome game. still have the whole soundtrack on my ipod. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWuNf4gxwuM |

Of the two I am definitely looking forward to the Witcher 2 more than Skyrim. Mainly for the combat, non linear storytelling etc. The graphic engine looks simply amazing.

Oblivion was good for it's time, but yeah, if they released something like that all over again, then it would be awful. I remember a few things I specifically did not like about Oblivion... 1. Lack of enemy diversity. 2. Lack of environment diversity. 3. bugs. Loads of bugs. I remember Oblivion on my ps3, could barely play through certain parts of it... 4. Lack of quest diversity 5. Lack of character diversity for in-game characters (no real personality)... That's all I can think of off the top of my head. The actual combat and graphics were great, the story was pretty good, and playing through different quest lines for different guilds was awesome for me (I almost always ended up murdering someone and then working for the dark brotherhood). Ah, yes, my last pet peeve with Oblivion, once you got to the head of an organization like that, give us more things to do, eh? I'd like to run the organization, not just walk up to someone and say "Come with me." and have a companion... |
