Good day,

I began my trek with EVE in 2006 and played on and off for several years. It's been almost three years since my last warp jump. I'm currently commanding an Exequror for mining. I have over 2 million in training skill and about 30 million ISK. What's a good mid level mining vessel these days? Should I focus on training/buying a Min ing Barge? My race is Gallente.

Thanks,
Moots

If you plan on being a Miner a barge is for you, train straight to Retriever then into a Covetor.

Keep the Covy till you can afford to buy, loose and then replace a Hulk.

You might want to find an Alliance that has gang boosted Orca's and Mining Ops'

An Exequror is a decent logistics cruiser, but if you want mining, use a Vexor - the ship has bonuses to mining drones, and is the best choice for a Gallente mining cruiser. Equip it with mining lasers in the turrets and mining drones, and light combat drones for defence against rats. Just be warned that unless you're willing to jet can mine, you'll have to shuttle back and forth between the belt and station a bit.

In terms of absolute efficiency, the Osprey is the way to go - best in terms of yield, carrying capacity and defense. It also doesn't take long to crosstrain into.

After that, its a question of where you want to go. If you're looking at pure/professional mining, then Alara is correct - Retriever/Covetor and then Hulk. But if not, you might want to look at refitting a battleship such as a Rokh, or in the Gallente case, Hyperion.

One last thing: Halada's Mining Guide. This guide basically started my mining career, and I recommend it to anyone looking at mining.

Also as you've been away a while, we've got that event called Hulkageddon nowadays. It's a competition on killing mining ships =) Pretty hilarious, even if my non-post main is a miner.

You've gotten some good advice in the earlier replies. IF you're determined to go forward with a mining / industrial career, by all means train for the Retriever. You should ignore the Procurer.

Also, if you've not done so, check the resources sticky in the Science and Industry Forum. You're looking for the link to Halada's Mining Guide.

There are any number of corporations, even alliances, in Gall space with a very heavy emphasis on mining and industry. A little research and you shouldn't have any trouble hooking up with peeps that (a) share your interests and (b) can help and guide you on your way.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the replies. It's been a slow four years but I'm ready to focus.

I already have most of the skills for the Vexor and should be able to command the Covetor in about two weeks. I will be looking for a solid mining/industry corp soon. Thank you all again for your assistance!

If by two weeks you mean tomorrow evening, then yeah Twisted Evil
You get to distribute 2+ mil SP wherever you want tomorrow.
