I'm pleased to announce eve-mail.net's full support of the Tyrannis 1.2 API new "Message Body" feature.

tl;dr: In Game Mail comes to your e-mail client. Quick-links are provided to view or reply via the eve-gate website.

Please visit the service's Information Page for details on setup. Accounts can be 'Basic' which requires No API information at all, Limited API, or Full API, each providing varying feature sets.

About the Service

There is additional information in older eve-online forum threads here and here.

So what's this all about? It's not 'just another e-mail address'.

Basic IM Service Features

  • Private XMPP Server (aka Jabber or Google Talk)

  • Works with most multi-service IM clients

  • Server-to-Server enabled (message users other EVE Alliance XMPP services, Google Talk, etc)

  • Shared contact lists

  • User-configurable chat rooms (similar to IRC)

  • Server-based broadcasts to contact lists (corp, alliance, or custom)

IM Features With a Limited API Key

  • API-Restricted Corp and Alliance chat rooms

  • Automatic management of Corp and Alliance contact lists

Basic Mail Service Features

  • Basic web-mail interface

  • IMAP and POP access

  • Access via Google Mail (instructions)

Mail Features With a Full API Key

  • Full text forwarding of in-game mails to your eve-mail.net mail account (w/ quick links to view or reply on EVE Gate). (This is the new bit)

Hi,

i love the idea of the service and with the new api features this service has a great chance to get more popular.

did you import all existing emails?

do you support mailing lists?

i've send an email to myself through eve gate, but wont get it into the Squirrel WebMail... whats wrong? i've provided a full api key.

thanks in advance, SerM

edit: works now... just need some time to update...
whats the update interval?

I actually can't recall the behavior when you first sign up... Off the top of my head I'd guess it will give you your 50 most recent mails (this is based on how the API works).

Mailing lists are handled normally.

The service currently updates near the hour mark, however this may change.

Happy to hear it's working well for you.

yes, works well..

just one issue more:
ive send a testmail to myself after settung up the account.
the api itself reports me the mail, your service not.
the api cache is set to 5 minutes.

thanks for looking into the issues :)

Any chance you can add Notifications so POS attack/fuel alerts can be seen out-of-game.

I'd actually been thinking about doing that as a jabber alert, but I don't think there are any reasons it can't be put in the mail process as well.

It's now on my todo list =)

Awesome!

It's hard when you have POS on alt corps and things, not really any warning unless you login.

The only way to send in-game-mail is either in-game, or on EVE-Gate.

I try to make using eve-gate as painless as possible, with "Reply" links for each mail and such.

This service keeps getting better Lake...thank you! I think you need a donation button somewhere. :)

Wondering if you can update the eve-mail.net page to include specific POP/IMAP and SMTP settings. Although I can receive mail via Thunderbird, Google, etc...I'm having trouble sending mail. Default settings aren't working and I've tried all possible SMTP combinations, to include SSL, and a variety of ports. Nothing seems to work. Also can't connect via my Android, which was the original intent.

Just to put you at ease, I ensured the mail.eve-mail.net server was set, and my e-mail address as the account name, per your instructions.

Again, thanks for the help.

so u are saying that isn't possibile to send evemail without a manual access in eve gate right?
so is not possible to add function for send evemail when u do something in a site? like put a news on the corp site and autosend an eve corp mail with the news... or something like that...

It's possible but CCP claims it's agains their terms of service to send evemail programmatically.

EVE gate lets you send mail when you aren't able to log in to game. So no, it's not useless.

if u can't "updade" it is useless ^^
it's like release API and after say "u can't use it"

Incursion 1.0 Patch Notes

  • Inconsistent formatting of element and rowset names in mail calls has been fixed.

  • The MailMessages API no longer return the Read bit, as it isn’t guaranteed to be correct.

  • The toListIDs flag on MailMessages now returns an empty string rather than 0, if it wasn’t sent to a mailing list, as this is more consistent.

  • The toListIDs flag has been renamed to toListID, as you can only send a mail to 1 mailing list at a time.

These changes will almost certainly temporarily break eve-mail.net's in-game mail forwarding. But only that one feature.

As the test API server is not online I do not have the opportunity to test code ahead of time. I don't anticipate any significant issues. I'll just need to rename a few things here and there. But it will take time to verify what has changed and test the new code.

I was right. Smile

It broke. Sad

But I fixed it. Very Happy

I also took the opportunity to catch a few corner cases so a couple types of mail (like ones with absolutely no message content) will no be delivered faithfully (without content, where appropriate).

As always, if you run into any issues, feel free to post in this thread or contact me elsewhere. I have this thread in my RSS reader (thank's to Chribba's eve-search, btw) so I tend to notice posts relatively early.

An update here.

I had a look at the Notifications stuff. The actual content of the notification isn't available. Only its time and type (there are a few dozen different TypeIDs for notifications, which I'd link but the eve-dev wiki is down right now).

It's not nearly as useful as I'd hoped, so I ended up working on something else first.

It's still on my todo list, just further down. Sorry.

I'll sign up now and take a look I think. I am mainly interested in getting notification emails though. Even just the type and time so I know if my POS has started to run out of fuel, etc :)

I change a bunch of code.

If I did it right you should notice absolutely nothing different.

That is all.

Lake,

Having trouble setting up T-Bird to send e-mails via the eve-mail.net account. This is the error I get:

Quote:
An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.1 <xxx@gmail.com>: Relay access denied. Please check the message recipient xxx@gmail.com and try again.

Where xxx@gmail.com is the address I'm trying to send a test message to. I've tried multiple e-mail recipients, with different domains, and I get the same result. I've tried a bazillion combinations, SSL on/off, ports, etc.

Any chance you could post up the smtp settings? or...someone give me a clue what I'm doing wrong here? Using t-bird as my e-mail client.

Thanks!

I haven't had a chance to look into your particular error, but it's worth noting that sending mails is often heavily dependent on your ISP. You're usually best off just using their mail server for outgoing (as annoying as this can be).

In other news, eve-mail.net just had its 3 year anniversary. =)

Thanks Lake. I think I've got it working now. I found the combination of port and authentication settings that makes it work properly.
